Lebanon files UN complaint over Arouri's assassination

The appeal urges the Security Council to pressure Tel Aviv to halt further aggression against Lebanon.

Lebanon has officially registered a complaint with the United Nations Security Council, denouncing Israel’s targeted killing of senior Hamas official Saleh al-Arouri in the capital, Beirut. The document, dated January 4, details an Israeli attack involving six missiles on Tuesday, resulting in the tragic death of six individuals, including al-Arouri, the former deputy head of the Political Bureau of the Palestinian Hamas Resistance movement based in Gaza.

Describing the assault on Lebanese soil as the “most dangerous escalation since 2006,” the document underscores that the attack “specifically aimed at a densely populated residential area, constituting a blatant violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the safety of its civilian population and aviation.”

Lebanon’s appeal to the Security Council calls for decisive action and increased pressure on the Tel Aviv regime to cease further escalations. The country’s National News Agency reports the urgent need for international intervention to prevent ongoing aggression and protect Lebanon’s interests.

The Israeli military launched yet another attack on southern Lebanon’s border areas with artillery fire on Thursday, resulting in the deaths of nine members of the Lebanese Hezbollah Resistance movement. Since October 8, amid the Israeli onslaught against Gaza, the Lebanon-occupied Palestine border has witnessed deadly exchanges of fire, primarily involving the Israeli regime military and the Hezbollah movement.

The continuous fighting has led to the evacuation of tens of thousands from the northern part of Israeli-occupied territories, subjected to rocket fire and shelling by Hezbollah and allied Palestinian groups. The conflict’s toll includes over 140 Hezbollah forces losing their lives, with 11 Zionist soldiers also killed since the conflict’s inception, highlighting the severity of the situation in the region.
