Protesters demanding an end to Israel’s bombing of Gaza railed against Christmas business as usual in New York City on Saturday, one of the busiest shopping days of the year.
The protest was one of several nationwide timed to coincide with the Christmas holiday weekend. Protesters who gathered near Central Park on 5th Avenue were met by a small pro-Israel counter-demonstration, with police separating the two sides as they shouted at each other.
At least 201 Palestinians have been killed over the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 20,258 during the 11-week conflict, the Palestinian Health Ministry said on Saturday, with thousands more bodies believed trapped under rubble. Almost all of Gaza’s 2.3 million people have been displaced.
