Hyderabad: Hyderabad cricketer N Thakur Tilak Varma, who made India debut in T20s in last series against West Indies, handed ODI debut for the Super Four clash against Bangladesh in Asia Cup on Friday.
The southpaw impressed on his debut in the T20 series before having a quiet series against Ireland. On Friday, India made wholesale changes to their playing XI, resting Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav.
While Tilak handed the debut cat, Mohammed Shami, Prasidh Krishna, Shardul Thakur and Suryakumar Yadav were also drafted in for their inconsequential clash.
Middle order batter Shreyas Iyer missed India’s third consecutive game with the BCCI saying he “has shown improvement but is not yet fully fit.” For Bangladesh, Tanzib Shakib was handed ODI debut.
