Qatar urges swift, impartial probe into Israeli crimes in Gaza

Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani

Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani has called for an urgent probe into Israeli crimes in Gaza.

The Qatar-based Al Jazeera TV channel quoted Sheikh Mohammed as saying on Sunday that there was a need for an “immediate, comprehensive and impartial international investigation” into crimes Israel has been committing in Gaza as part of its aggression against the enclave.

This is the first time since the start of the Israeli attacks on Gaza in early October that Sheikh Mohammed has described the regime’s conducts in the enclave as “crimes.”

His country was the chief intermediary in negotiations between Hamas and Israel that led to a seven-day ceasefire starting November 24.

The lull in the fighting allowed the badly-needed humanitarian aid to reach people in Gaza while Hamas and Israel exchanged captives and prisoners.

Sheikh Mohammed said Qatar will continue to mediate between Hamas and Israel to work out another truce or a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

More than 600 people have been killed since early hours of Friday when Israel resumed its attacks on Gaza.

Nearly 15,000 people, a significant part of them women and children, were killed in Israel’s attacks on the enclave before the Qatar-mediated truce came into effect.

The aggression began on October 7 hours after Hamas launched an unprecedented military operation into Israeli-occupied territories of Palestine near Gaza.
