It was a day of records at the Cricket World Cup 2023 on Wednesday. Glenn Maxwell smashed a 40-ball ton making him the fastest to reach the triple figure mark in Cricket World Cup history. However, the Australian star’s marauding form meant that Netherlands’ Bas de Leede registered an unwanted record to his name. He conceded the most runs in a 50-over innings during an ICC World Cup 2023 match against Australia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday. (World Cup 2023 points table)
de Leede had one of the worst days of his cricket career at the Arun Jaitley Stadium as the Netherlands all-rounder conceded 115 runs in his ten overs, setting the record for the poorest ODI bowling stats in history.
Bas de Leede was the last bowler introduced into the Netherlands’ attack by captain Scott Edwards during a match against Australia.
While de Leede took the wickets of Marnus Labuschagne and Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell humiliated him. After 10 overs, the Netherlands pacer completed with stats of 2/115. His economy rate was 11.5 runs per over.
Before the Netherlands all-rounder’s record, Australia’s Adam Zampa and Mick Lewis shared the world record. Zampa and Lewis both conceded 113 runs in 10 overs of different ODIs against South Africa in 2023 and 2006.
Talking about the match, David Warner smashed another immaculate century as Australia built a solid platform against Netherlands in the ICC World Cup before Glenn Maxwell unleashed the fastest hundred in the tournament’s history.
Maxwell’s century came from just 40 balls, nine faster than the previous best at a World Cup, and included eight maximums.
Top knocks by Warner, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne and Maxwell helped Australia post a mammoth total of 399/8 against the Netherlands.
