Wang Yi held a telephone conversation with Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, saying that the international community should take action to counter the actions of any side that harms civilians.
The Iranian top diplomat, for his part, said that since the current situation in the Middle East is dangerous, immediate measures must be taken to prevent attacks on civilians in Gaza.
He added that the Iranian side hopes to solve the issue through political means and would like to increase contact and communication with the Chinese side in this regard.
Meanwhile, the top Chinese diplomat told his Iranian counterpart that Beijing supports the “just cause of the Palestinian people in safeguarding their national rights.”
“The root cause… of the Palestine-Israel situation is that the Palestinian people’s right to statehood has been set aside for a long time,” Wang said, according to an official Chinese readout.
Israeli regime forces launched a sustained and forceful military attack against the Gaza Strip in response to a military operation last Saturday by the Palestinian group Hamas in Israel.
As many as 2,269 people, including over 700 Palestinian children, have been so far killed and 9,814 others injured since the regime launched its bloody aggression against the coastal territory.
In its latest updated figures released by the Zionist regime’s army, on Sunday morning it said that the number of soldiers killed during the Al-Aqsa Storm operation increased to 286.
A total of more than 1300 Zionist settlers and soldiers have been killed in the Al-Aqsa Storm operation launched by Hamas last Saturday.
