China says the United States must play a “constructive and responsible role” in response to Israel’s war of aggression against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
During a phone call with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for “the convening of an international peace meeting as soon as possible to promote the reaching of broad consensus,” according to a readout published by the Chinese foreign ministry.
He said that Washington “should practically play a constructive and responsible role, pushing the issue back on track for a political settlement as soon as possible.”
“When dealing with international hot-spot issues, major countries must adhere to objectivity and fairness, maintain calmness and restraint, and take the lead in abiding by international law,” the Chinese foreign minister added.
Wang’s remarks came hours after the US State Department asked diplomats working on the Middle East issues to avoid using phrases like “de-escalation/ceasefire”, “end to violence/bloodshed” and “restoring calm” in their public statements.
The warning was issued in a message seen by the HuffPost, as the Israeli regime brutally escalates its indiscriminate war on the besieged enclave.
The Tel Aviv regime’s military continued its bombardment of the Gaza Strip overnight, hitting residential buildings.
As of Saturday, as many as 2,269 Palestinians, including over 700 children, have been martyred and thousands of others injured since the regime launched the indiscriminate war against the blockaded coastal sliver.
US President Joe Biden has pledged unwavering support for the Israeli regime since it declared its all-out war on the Gaza Strip in response to Operation al-Aqsa Storm.
Gaza’s resistance movements initiated the operation last Saturday in response to the occupying regime’s decades-long campaign of bloodshed and destruction against Palestinians.
