Iran’s attacks on Israel’s military targets took place within the framework of Iran’s use of the right to legitimate defense and in line with what is specified in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said in reaction to Iran’s latest drone and missile attack on Israel.
The obstruction of the United States and its western allies in implementing the role of the Security Council in establishing international peace and security shows that these countries do not respect the UN Charter and international law, the statement added.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry stated, “We stand in solidarity with Iran and once again condemn the attack of the Zionist enemy on the Iranian consulate in Damascus.”
The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force fired hundreds of drones and missiles toward targets deep inside the Israeli occupied territories in the early hours of Sunday in what the force said was a response to Israeli crimes against the Iranian nation, including an attack earlier this month on an Iranian consulate in Syria which killed senior military commanders.
Despite earlier threats by Israel that it would respond to a direct attack launched from the Iranian territory, the regime has yet to announce any retaliatory measures amid warnings issued by its main ally the United States that it would not support such an attack.
