Iran vows 'certain' response to Israel's terror attack in Syria

Iran vows 'certain' response to Israel's terror attack in Syria

Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian says Tehran will definitely give a response to and punish Israel for its recent terror attack against the Iranian diplomatic premises in the Syrian capital of Damascus.

Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks in a Monday meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus, where he is on an official visit a week after an Israeli terrorist attack on the Consular Section of the Iranian Embassy in the Mezzeh neighborhood in Damascus.

He said the United States is directly responsible for Israel’s crimes and acts of madness.

A senior commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Force, Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, and his deputy General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi were among the seven Iranian martyrs of the terrorist attack on April 1.

The Iranian foreign minister pointed to the latest developments in the war-ravaged Gaza Strip and said various reports and numerous intelligence show serious and unprecedented rifts among Israeli officials.

However, he added, the resistance front is in a very good situation and stands ready to continue its battle against Israel’s atrocities.

Given Israel’s brutal war crimes in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and the continuation of their siege, the oppressed Palestinian people are in dire need of measures by the international community to alleviate their sufferings, the Iranian minister emphasized.

Israel waged a US-backed genocidal war on the besieged Gaza Strip on October 7 following a historic operation by the Palestinian Hamas resistance group against the occupying regime.

Since then, the regime has killed at least 33,207 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured more than 75,933 others. The regime has also imposed a “complete siege” on the territory, cutting off fuel, electricity, food and water to the more than two million Palestinians living there.

Assad, for his part, said both Iran and Syria have a common stance on the fight against terrorism and added that if the resistance front strives to become stronger, it will be a punishment for Israel.

He emphasized that Israel’s attacks on Syria will not help the regime compensate its defeats.

The Syrian president said economic and humanitarian support for the Palestinian people is a human, Islamic, Arab and international responsibility.

Heading a politico-parliamentary delegation, Amir-Abdollahian arrived in Damascus on Monday on the second leg of his regional tour.

Earlier in the day, he held a meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad.

Amir-Abdollahian paid a day-long visit to Muscat on Sunday and held talks with Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Al-Busaidi and Mohammed Abdulsalam, the senior representative of Yemen’s National Salvation Government.
