Lebanese Hezbollah movement held a ceremony in commemoration of the Iranian general Mohammad Reda Zahedi martyred along with a number of his companions in an Israeli airstrike in Damascus at Sayyed Al-Shuhada Complex in Beirut’s Dahiyeh on Monday afternoon.
The secretary general of the Hezbollah resistance movement Hassan Nasrallah addressed the ceremony to honor the senior Iranian general via video-conferencing.
“IRGC role in Lebanon and Syrian started upon the Israeli invasion in 1982,” said Nasrallah, adding that, “Despite the global war waged by Saddam Hussein regime on Iran, Imam Khomeini dispatched Iranian forces to Lebanon and Syria to confront the Zionist invasion.
“As the Zionist invasion stopped, most of the Iranian forces returned home, yet IRGC cadres remained in Lebanon to train the resistance fighters,” he also said, adding that “IRGC sacrificed martyrs in Zionist airstrikes on training camps in Bekaa and Syria.”
“Diplomatic missions across the world include military advisors, just as the Iranian consulate in Damascus,” he added.
“In Syria, the Iranian military role is carried out by advisors, not troops,” Hezbollah’s secretary general added.
The Zionist regime’s attacks on the Iranian military advisors in Syria came after the defeat of the pro-Israeli groups, he said, adding that “The Zionist air raids are aimed at expelling the Iranian military advisors from Syria.”
“The Iranian military advisors have insisted to keep in Syria in order to support the resistance in Lebanon and Palestine and the Syrian army in its battle against the terrorist groups,” the Hezbollah leader further noted.
“What is new about this attack is that it targeted the Iranian consulate which is considered an Iranian territory,” he also pointed out, noting that “This made the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Imam Khamenei make the decision of the military response to the Israeli attack.”
He went on to highlight that “Martyr Zahedi served the Islamic Resistance as an IRGC official in Lebanon and Syria for 14 years.”
“IRGC advisors do not interfere in the Lebanese domestic issues; they just concentrate on developing the Resistance capabilities,” he said
