Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has arrived in the Syrian capital of Damascus to hold talks with the country’s authorities.
Heading a politico-parliamentary delegation, the Iranian foreign minister arrived in Damascus on Monday on the second leg of his regional tour which has taken him to the Omani capital of Muscat.
During his stay in Damascus, the top Iranian diplomat is scheduled to discuss mutual relations and the latest developments in the region, particularly the ongoing Israeli war against the people of Palestine in the Gaza Strip.
The visit comes days after a terrorist attack by Israel on the Consular Section of the Iranian Embassy in the Mezzeh neighborhood in Damascus.
A senior commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Force, Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, and his deputy General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi were among the seven Iranian martyrs of the terrorist attack on April 1.
Amir-Abdollahian paid a day-long visit to Muscat on Sunday and held talks with Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Al-Busaidi and Mohammed Abdulsalam, the senior representative of Yemen’s National Salvation Government.
In a post on his official X account, the Iranian foreign minister said the sides exchanged views about the improvement of Tehran-Muscat ties and Oman’s key role in the sanctions removal talks.
“We also discussed the latest developments in the region, including the continuation of the Zionists’ combined war crimes against the Palestinians and the need to take deterrent decisions,” he wrote.
