Iran strongly condemns new US aggression against Yemen

In a statement on Sunday, Baghaei strongly condemned US airstrikes on targets in Sanaa.

“The US’s aggressive and repeated attacks on Yemen are not only a flagrant violation of the principles and norms of international law and the United Nations Charter, but also violate the norms and principles of international humanitarian law and amount to a war crime,” said the spokesman.

Praising the honorable support and solidarity of the Yemeni people with the oppressed Palestinian nation, which is because of the Yemenis’ firm faith and belief in supporting the oppressed against occupation and genocide, Baghaei called for serious action by the Islamic world and regional countries, as well as the United Nations, against the aggressive actions of the United States, Britain, and the Zionist regime against Yemen.

The US military said on Sunday that it had conducted airstrikes on Saturday on targets in the Yemeni capital of Sana’a.

Tea For Rs 10 At Kolkata Airport Soon, Raghav Chadha Says "Change Brewing"

Tea For Rs 10 At Kolkata Airport Soon, Raghav Chadha Says 'Change Brewing'

AAP MP Raghav Chadha in parliament raised issue of overpriced food at airports

New Delhi:

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha said his efforts have led to lowering of food and water prices at airports after the government launched affordable Udaan Yatri Cafe. Mr Chadha had in parliament raised the issue of overpriced food and beverages at airports, prompting the government to launch the Udaan Yatri Cafe, Mr Chadha said in a statement.

The first Udaan Yatri Cafe has been launched at Kolkata airport, offering water, tea, and snacks at reasonable prices.

Mr Chadha reminded the government of its promise to make air travel affordable, highlighting that rising costs have made it challenging for the common people to fly.

“Glad to see the change brewing! After I highlighted the issue of food affordability at airports during this Winter Session of Parliament, tea prices at Kolkata Airport have been reduced. This is a win for us citizens, and I take pride in being the catalyst for this change. Hope more airports will follow this example and price food items more reasonably. Which issues should I raise in the next session?” the AAP MP said in a post on X.

The Civil Aviation Ministry announced the launch of ‘Udaan Yatri Cafe’ at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport as a pilot project. If successful, it will be extended to other airports managed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

In his parliamentary speech, Mr Chadha highlighted the plight of passengers forced to pay inflated prices for food and beverages at airports.

“A water bottle costs Rs 100, and tea is priced at Rs 200-250. Can’t the government establish affordable canteens at airports?” he said.

He also criticised the poor management of airports, which he likened to bus stands due to long queues, overcrowding, and disorganisation.

Mr Chadha’s speech received widespread praise on social media, with many hailing it as a voice for the common man, the AAP said.

Konchok Stanzin, a counselor from Ladakh’s Chushul, supported Mr Chadha’s statement, pointing out challenges faced by Ladakhis due to expensive air travel, especially during winter when they are cut off from the rest of the country.

While discussing the Indian Aviation Bill 2024, Mr Chadha said, “The government promised that people in slippers would fly, but now even those wearing Bata shoes can’t afford air travel.”

He noted a sharp rise in airfares over the past year, burdening the common people. For instance, Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Patna routes now cost Rs 10,000 to Rs 14,500.

Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) or 163 of Bharatiya Nagarika Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) was on Sunday imposed in Gudihatnoor mandal centre where tension broke out when irate relatives of an alleged rape victim attacked the suspect and set his house on fire before pelting stones on police, resulting injuries to an inspector and a sub-Inspector on Saturday.

The prohibitory orders was enforced in Gudihathnoor mandal headquarters to prevent untoward incidents.

The situation was under control, officials said. Utnoor DSP Nagender was supervising security measures. A case under sections of the POCSO Act was registered against Poshetti, who allegedly raped the girl by abducting her. An attempt to murder case was also reportedly booked against the relatives of the girl.

Meanwhile, Boath MLA Anil Jadhav consoled the victim who was undergoing treatment at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS)-Adilabad. He urged the police to take stern action against the perpetrator and to ensure justice to the victim.

He stated that the crimes against women were on the rise. Members of SC colony in Gudihathnoor mandal centre met police officials and requested them to take stern action against the accused person.

On Saturday night, the suspect Poshetti allegedly abducted the girl and raped her. On coming to know about it, the relatives of the girl rushed to the house and torched his house. Some of them attacked him. They resorted to pelting stones against the police when they tried to shift Poshetti to safety, demanding that the police hand him over to them.

Echoda Inspector Bheemesh and Gudihathnoor Sub-Inspector Thirupathi were injured. While Bheemesh received head injuries, Thirupathi sustained injuries to his legs. They were admitted to RIMS-Adilabad.

US fighter aircraft shot down ‘in friendly fire’ amid aggression on Yemen

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) says a fighter aircraft was shot down over the Red Sea in what it claimed to be a case of “friendly fire”, amid Washington’s escalated aggression on Yemeni soil in support of the Israeli regime.

Early Sunday, an F/A-18F Super Hornet was mistakenly shot down, with CENTCOM confirming in a statement that both US Navy aviators on board are safe.

The Super Hornet, assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75), was flying over the Red Sea when guided-missile cruiser USS Gettysburg (CG-64) fired upon it, according to the CENTCOM statement.

“The guided-missile cruiser USS Gettysburg (CG 64), which is part of the USS Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group, mistakenly fired on and hit the F/A-18, which was flying off the USS Harry S. Truman,” CENTCOM’s statement reads.

“Both pilots were safely recovered. Initial assessments indicate that one of the crew members sustained minor injuries. This incident was not the result of hostile fire, and a full investigation is underway.”

The Boeing-built Super Hornet is a supersonic, twin-engine fighter aircraft “able to perform virtually every mission in the tactical spectrum,” according to the manufacturer.

The strike group is tasked as part of a US-led coalition to protect merchant traffic in the Red Sea from pro-Palestine retaliatory operations by the Yemeni armed forces, who have over the past year launched dozens of drones, guided cruise, and ballistic missiles at Israeli-owned and –bound shipping in the strategic waterway.

Over the weekend, US forces attacked the Yemeni capital of Sana’a by striking a missile storage facility and a command and control node, according to a Saturday statement from CENTCOM.

The Sunday incident took place a day after Yemen’s military targeted Tel Aviv with a hypersonic ballistic missile, in a fresh operation against the Israeli regime and in support of the Palestinian people in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Yemeni armed forces spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Saree said in a statement on Saturday that the strike was carried out by a “Palestine 2” hypersonic ballistic missile, with the Israeli regime failing to intercept the advanced projectile.

Since the onset of the Israeli regime’s war on Gaza on October 7, 2023—after Palestinian resistance movements launched Operation al-Aqsa Storm—Yemen has declared unwavering support for Palestine’s struggle against the occupation.

The Yemeni Armed Forces have launched regular strikes against Israel as part of a phased escalation campaign.

The campaign has also included a strict maritime blockade of Israeli shipping, effectively preventing vessels from reaching Israeli ports.

Israel has so far killed more than 45,200 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured over 107,510 others in Gaza.

India beat Bangladesh to lift inaugural Women’s U19 T20 Asia Cup

Indian players celebrate after the victory

Kuala Lumpur: Opener G Trisha made a doughty fifty before the left-arm troika of Ayushi Shukla, Sonam Yadav and Parunika Sisodia spun web around Bangladesh batters as India scored a 41-run win to emerge champions in the inaugural Women’s T20 U19 Asia Cup here on Sunday.

On a spongy pitch, Trisha’s 52 off 47 balls (5×4, 2×6) guided India to 117 for seven, but Indian spinners cut through the Bangladesh line-up to bundle them out for 76 in 18.3 overs. The biggest partnership in Indian innings, in fact in the match itself, was between Trisha and her skipper Nikki Prasad — a 41-run alliance for the fourth wicket.

India batters struggled against pacer Farjana Easmin, who took four wickets. Despite that, India were restricted to a below-par total, and Bangladesh seemed well on track for a win once they reached 44 for two in the seventh over.

However, Ayushi (3/17), Sonam (2/13) and Parunika (2/12) took over from that point as Bangladesh lost remaining eight wickets for a mere 32 runs.

Brief scores:
India: 117/7 in 20 overs (G Trisha 52; Farjana Easmin 4/32) beat Bangladesh: 76 all out in 18.3 overs (Juairiya Ferdous 22; Ayushi Shukla 3/17, Sonam Yadav 2/13, Parunika Sisodia 2/12).

Mumbai: Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty slumped in early trade on Thursday following weak global market trends after the US Federal Reserve indicated fewer rate cuts next year.

The 30-share BSE benchmark Sensex tanked 1,162.12 points to 79,020.08 in early trade. The NSE Nifty tumbled 328.55 points to 23,870.30.

All 30 blue-chip stocks were trading lower. Infosys, State Bank of India, Tata Steel, Asian Paints, JSW Steel, Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance and Mahindra & Mahindra were the biggest laggards.

In Asian markets, Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong were trading lower. Wall Street ended sharply lower on Wednesday.

“When valuations are high, the market needs only a trigger to correct sharply. This trigger was provided by the Fed guidance of fewer rate cuts in 2025, which went against market expectations. Even though the rate cut of 25 bps was in tune with the market’s expectation, the indication of only two cuts of 25 bps each in 2025 against market expectation of three or even four cuts spooked the market resulting in a sharp sell-off in Wall Street. The Fed chief’s comments regarding the economy and the labour market are, in fact, positive, suggesting a resilient US economy. But always the market gets spooked when the reality falls short of expectations,” VK Vijayakumar, chief investment strategist, Geojit Financial Services, said.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 1,316.81 crore on Wednesday, according to exchange data.

“The Federal Reserve cut its benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points, marking the third consecutive reduction this year, but bullish sentiment waned as the Fed lowered its 2025 projections to just two additional cuts,” Prashanth Tapse, senior VP (Research), Mehta Equities Ltd, said.

Global oil benchmark Brent crude dipped 0.40 per cent to $73.10 a barrel.

The BSE benchmark Sensex tumbled 502.25 points or 0.62 per cent to settle at 80,182.20, taking its downtrend to the third day on Wednesday. The Nifty declined 137.15 points or 0.56 per cent to 24,198.85.

Trump has genuine opportunity to negotiate Iran nuclear deal

According to the CNN report, Sullivan, however, highlighted the “real risk” that Iran may revisit its nuclear doctrine in the aftermath of the Assad government in Syria.

“It’s a risk that I’m personally briefing the incoming team on. I was just in Israel, consulting with the Israelis on this risk,” he told CNN’s Fareed Zakaria in an interview that aired Sunday.

Iran’s “conventional capability has been reduced,” Sullivan claimed.

The US official said that Iran has lost its alleged proxies while the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei dismissed in a speech earlier on Sunday claims that Iran has been cut off from its “proxy forces” in the region, asserting that the Islamic Republic neither has nor needs such forces to achieve its objectives.

In 2018, Iran activated the dispute resolution mechanism within the Joint Commission of the JCPOA at the level of foreign ministers from the remaining signatories to the agreement. Consequently, the JCPOA members issued a statement outlining 11 commitments aimed at compensating for the economic damages caused by the United States’ unilateral withdrawal from the deal and re-imposition of sanctions against Iran.

Iran honored its commitments under the JCPOA for a year following the US withdrawal, hoping to give European nations time to fulfill their promises to mitigate the impacts of Washington’s unilateral exit. Nevertheless, as European countries failed to meet their commitments, Iran began to reduce its obligations under the JCPOA in several stages.

Negotiations to resume the implementation of the JCPOA have been held over eight rounds in Vienna, with representatives from the remaining signatories of the deal, the European Union, and Iran participating. The US delegation took part in the discussions indirectly.

However, the talks have stalled due to factors such as contradictions in behavior, delays in decision-making, excessive demands, and new requests from the United States.
