At least 13 people have been killed in clashes in northwest Pakistan where a fresh bout of Takfiri violence has targeted Shia Muslims.

A deadly attack last week in Pakistan’s northwest tribal region bordering Afghanistan on a passenger convoy traveling from Parachinar to Peshawar has sparked widespread outrage and triggered clashes.

The Takfiri attack on the convoy, which included killing women and children, has raised suspicions among tribes.

A local official in Kurram district on Saturday attributed the tense situation to Takfiri terrorists operating in the restive tribal regions.

The government official said in the past two days 13 more people, mostly Shias, had been killed in new attacks, raising the total death toll since last week to 124.

Attacks on Shia Muslims in the past have been carried out by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The Kurram district is located west of Peshawar and leads into the Paktia, Logar and Nangarhar provinces of eastern Afghanistan.

The Shia Muslim community in Pakistan has called on Islamabad to take immediate action to stop the ongoing massacre in the restive northwestern and unsafe parts of the country.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, in a letter of condolences last Thursday, expressed sympathy with the Pakistani government and nation, as well as the bereaved families of the victims of the attacks.

Iran FM: Lebanon victory fruit of nation’s steadfastness, Hezbollah’s sacrifices

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi (R) and his Lebanese counterpart Abdallah Bou Habib

The Iranian foreign minister has welcomed the enactment of a ceasefire agreement between Hezbollah and Israel, describing the Lebanese victory as the fruit of the Arab nation’s steadfastness against the Zionist aggression and heroic sacrifices made by fighters from the resistance group.

Abbas Araghchi made the remarks in a telephone conversation with his Lebanese counterpart Abdallah Bou Habib on Thursday.

The achievement was the result of the indescribable perseverance of the Lebanese people, sacrifices made by Lebanese resistance fighters on the battlefield, as well as the efforts and insight undertaken by Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and the Beirut government, the top Iranian diplomat pointed out.

Araghchi pointed out the Zionist regime’s abysmal record of violating signed agreements and international resolutions, reaffirming the Islamic Republic of Iran’s unwavering support for the Lebanese government, nation, army and its resistance movement.

Turning to recent developments in Syria’s northern Aleppo province, where members of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) terrorist group have overrun many government-controlled areas and killed dozens of Syrian military soldiers, the Iranian foreign minister termed the incidents a US-Israeli scenario aimed at destabilizing West Asia after failures of the Zionist regime in confronting Hezbollah.

Araghchi underlined that the menace of terrorism has been countered effectively.

For his part, Bou Habib briefed his Iranian counterpart on the status quo in Lebanon after the implementation of the ceasefire deal and appreciated the solidarity and unflinching support of the Islamic Republic of Iran for Lebanon.

Israel was forced to accept a ceasefire with Hezbollah after suffering heavy losses following more than 14 months of fighting and failing to achieve its goals in its aggression on Lebanon. The truce agreement officially came into effect at 04:00 local time (0200 GMT) on Wednesday.

Hezbollah opened a support front for Palestinians in Gaza only a day after the Israeli regime unleashed its genocidal war against the besieged territory in October 2023, launching numerous retaliatory attacks against Israeli targets in the occupied territories.

Following the truce announcement, the resistance movement warned it was fully ready to counter further potential Israeli aggression against Lebanon while stressing the recent ceasefire deal was driven by its thousands-strong triumphant operations.

EU not enjoy independent political personality: senior cleric

Speaking during this week’s Friday Prayers in Tehran, the Hujjat al-Islam underlined that the Navy Force of the Islamic Republic of Iran has showcased the authority of the country and the Armed Forces in regional and extra-regional waters.

The Navy Force of the Islamic Republic of Iran is one of the pillars of the country’s defense power, he emphasized.

The Friday prayers leader then pointed to the 10th of Azar (Nov. 30) which marks Parliament Day in Iran and stated that Martyr Modarres was a learned man who defended the rights of the nation.

He (Modarres) considered defending the rights of the Iranian nation as defending the teachings of Islam and termed the implementation of law as superior to the survival and durability of the government.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Hujjat al-Islam Mohammad Hassan Abu Torabi Fard referred to the relations between Iran and Europe and added the relationship between Iran and Europe has experienced many ups and downs since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

Today, the European Union does not enjoy an independent political personality, he stated, noting that Europeans’ interests have been victimized by the US’s excessive demands.

He censured Europe’s unconventional and hostile move in issuing the anti-Iranian statement regarding the trio islands of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa and stated that these irrational actions were met with Iran’s rational action.

One cannot negotiate with a powerful Iran through the language of threat, he said.

The West can facilitate dialogue and reach an agreement with mutual respect and Iran has always been ready for honest and scientific dialogue, he stressed.

He congratulated the Lebanese people on their victory and pointed out that the Islamic Republic of Iran has been and will stand by the Lebanese people.

Reaching an agreement with Hezbollah means a complete defeat for the criminal Zionist regime and today, the power of Hezbollah and the Resistance Front have brought the Zionist enemy to its knees, the Friday prayers leader emphasized.
