Perth: India captain Rohit Sharma, who was on a paternity break, arrived in Perth on Sunday evening and was quick to hit the nets. Rohit was seen batting in the nets during the lunch session on Monday as he faced reserve pacers Navdeep Saini, Yash Dayal and Mukesh Kumar.

The Indian contingent will travel to Canberra on Wednesday for two-day tour game starting November 30. That practise game doesn’t have first-class status.

However, the match will have some amount of significance as it is a ‘Pink Ball’ Day/Night game which will serve as preparation for the second Test in Adelaide starting December 6.

Rohit is expected to play the game in Canberra as the pink Kookaburra in Adelaide offers a different kind of challenge for the batters especially in the famous twilight hour when the ball is known to jag around more than usual.

Hyderabad: ACB uncovers Rs 17 crore disproportionate assets belonging to tainted irrigation officer

Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has unearthed disproportionate assets allegedly worth over Rs 17 crore belonging to H. Nikesh Kumar, an Assistant Engineer (AE) with the Irrigation Department.

Earlier on Friday, searches were conducted at 25 locations across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Following the outcome and seizures, ACB booked a case against Nikesh Kumar and took up investigation.

Now, placed under suspension, Nikesh Kumar, who was previously caught red-handed accepting a bribe and jailed in May 2024, is now under scrutiny for amassing wealth far beyond his known sources of income. The assets uncovered include prime real estate properties.

He, along with K. Bhansi Lal (Executive Engineer), K. Karthik (Assistant Engineer), and P. Ganesh (Surveyor), were caught accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a builder from Manikonda to process and forward No Objection Certificate for a construction project at Neknampur in Manikonda.

Case is under investigation.

Iran calls on EU to stop its selfish, irresponsible behavior

In a post on his X account on Friday, he wrote, “European Union’s Deputy Foreign Policy Chief Enrique Mora was told that the European Union should stop its irresponsible behavior towards the existing challenges and the international issues.”

Gharibabadi published a report on his talk with the deputy secretary-general of the European Union External Action Service and wrote, “We had a frank discussion with Enrique Mora on a range of issues and also the prospects for nuclear negotiations and removal of anti-Iranian sanctions in light of the latest developments.”

Europe should not play a blame game of its own problems and mistakes, including in relation to the Ukrainian conflict, onto others, he added.

With the complicit behavior of its three major countries (France, Germany, and the UK) towards the Israeli genocidal war in Gaza, Europe now has no moral status and legal basis to advise others on human rights, Gharibabadi emphasized.

Europe has long been far from playing an influential role in the Iranian nuclear issue due to its lack of commitment and self-confidence. Europe needs to recover itself, Iran’s deputy foreign minister underlined.

Earlier on Friday, European Union’s deputy foreign policy chief Enrique Mora had held talks with two senior Iranian diplomats on different issues.

According to the senior EU official, the talks were focused on the military cooperation between Iran and Russia, human rights, and regional tensions.

Finding a political solution to the nuclear issue was among other topics discussed between them.

SRH coach Vettori says losing Natarajan to Delhi Capitals a ‘huge loss’

Says nothing sets off Nattu’s loss. Every team goes through it, whether you try and find the players early and…pounce on opportunities or you try and wait for the back end

SRH coach Vettori says losing Natarajan to Delhi Capitals a ‘huge loss’

Jeddah: Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Daniel Vettori was most excited about securing Ishan Kishan on day one of the IPL mega auction here but admitted that losing T Natarajan to Delhi Capitals was a loss.

Kishan, who made his name at the Mumbai Indians, was sold to SRH for Rs 11.25 crore on Sunday. The left-arm batter has had a tumultuous year, having lost his place in the Indian team as well as a BCCI central contract for defying the board’s diktat to play domestic cricket. However, he is back playing Ranji Trophy.

SRH bought as many as eight players on day one including pacers Mohammed Shami (Rs 10 crore) and Harshal Patel (Rs 8 crore). However, they were not able to buy back T Natarajan and Vettori said nobody could offset the loss of the left-arm pacer.

SRH had retained five players ahead of the auction including skipper Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Reddy.

“Nothing sets off Nattu’s loss (smiles). Every team goes through it, whether you try and find the players early and…pounce on opportunities or you try and wait for the back end,” said Vettori in a media interaction.

Natarajan was bought by Delhi Capitals for Rs 10.75 crore. “…we decided today to try and sense an opportunity when they came along and Mohammad Shami was one and then Harshal Patel, they were two guys that we potentially didn’t think would go for those prices (bargain buys).

“And then Ishan Kishan was a huge deal for us. We really wanted to secure him and we thought he, once again, we thought he’d go for more. so extremely happy that we got those three players as well as the rest,” said Vettori, who took time off from his coaching duties for Australia in the ongoing first Test against India.

Vettori said skipper Cummins is in agreement with all the picks. “Yes, yes there were (inputs from Cummins). A sad captain tonight (referring to Australia being behind in Perth), he had a hard day. I spoke to him earlier today (Sunday) and he understood the logic of the players that we’d gone for and then he had some ideas for obviously the rest of the squad building,” said the former New Zealand spinner.

Leg-spinner Rahul Chahar was a steal at Rs 3.2 crore. Vettori said they factored both recent performance and pedigree before going for the players. “We identified players that we thought had performed in the IPL previously. So we put a premium on that experience. And we’ve seen that pay off time and time again.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is ready to accept the hybrid model for the Champions Trophy 2025, according to a report by India Today. India refused to travel to Pakistan for the competition citing security concerns and several media reports suggested that the International Cricket Council (ICC) wanted Pakistan to agree to a hybrid model of hosting. However, the report claims that the PCB has put forward three conditions in this scenario. While nothing official has been announced by either ICC or PCB, the report claimed that India will be playing their games in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

A look at the conditions put forward by PCB for agreeing to a hybrid Champions Trophy –

The matches involving the Indian cricket team will take place in Dubai. This includes group stage matches as well as semi-final and final (if they qualify).

If India fail to progress beyond the group stages of the competition, Pakistan will be hosting the semi-final and final in Lahore.

If India hosts any future ICC events, Pakistan will be playing their matches in neutral venues.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi met Emirates Cricket Board head Mubashir Usmani in Dubai amid deliberations on a hybrid model for the Champions Trophy to be held in February-March next year.

According to a PCB statement regarding the meeting, Naqvi told Usmani that Pakistan was ready to host the Champions Trophy and all the preparations were on schedule.

Usmani is also the chairman of the ICC’s associate members’ committee.

According to sources, Naqvi also said that the situation in Pakistan was stable and all teams taking part in the mega-event would be provided state level security. He said the construction work at the stadiums which will host the tournament was also on schedule and the people of Pakistan were looking forward to watching the best teams and players play in the country.
