Cognizant sues Infosys for stealing trade secrets related to healthcare insurance software

New Delhi: IT major Cognizant‘s subsidiary TriZetto has slapped a lawsuit on Infosys in a US federal court, accusing the Bengaluru-headquartered company of stealing trade secrets and information related to healthcare insurance software.

Infosys, in a statement, denied all allegations. The company asserted it is aware of the lawsuit and will defend its position in the court.

Cognizant, in a lawsuit filed in Texas federal court, has accused Infosys of illegally accessing data from TriZetto’s software — Facets and QNXT — and using the same to develop and market a competing product.

Cognizant offerings include TriZetto’s Facets and QNXT, which healthcare insurance firms use to automate tasks.

Teaneck, New Jersey-based Cognizant has the bulk of its employees in India.

Cognizant has reportedly alleged that Infosys misused TriZetto’s software to create ‘Test Cases for Facets’, which repackaged its data into an Infosys product.

Further, it has reportedly alleged that Infosys created software to extract data from QNXT, that contained confidential TriZetto information.

It is interesting to note that just this week, Cognizant named former Infosys executive Rajesh Varrier as global head of operations and India Chairman and Managing Director, following the resignation of Rajesh Nambiar, who is set to take over as Nasscom president.

Moreover, Cognizant’s Chief Executive Officer Ravi Kumar S is also an Infosys veteran, whose 20-year career at the Bengaluru-based firm saw him holding various leadership roles, including as president from January 2016 through October 2022.

Let the new generation take over at AMMA, says Jagdeesh

Jagdeesh opened up after a section of the media began reporting that he is all set to be the new General Secretary of the AMMA when fresh elections are held two months later to elect a new committee.

Let the new generation take over at AMMA, says Jagdeesh

Veteran Malayalam film character actor Jagdeesh

Thiruvananthapuram: Veteran Malayalam film character actor Jagdeesh, who quit as Vice President of the Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) along with President Mohanlal and other office bearers following criticism following the sordid revelations made in the Justice Hema Committee report on sexual exploitation of women in the industry and allegations against some of its members, on Thursday announced he will no longer seek any post in the top film body, which should now be for the “new generation”.

Speaking to IANS, the comedian-turned-character actor said it is time for him to stay away from any posts.

“I have had a long innings, starting as Treasurer in the first AMMA executive when it was formed in 1994. It was just two months back I was elected as the Vice President. In these years, I have been the Treasurer for over two decades.”

“With the turn of events now, I have decided that since I have had a very long innings in the executive of AMMA, I will now bow out and make way for the new generation to take over,” said Jagdeesh, a bank officer-turned-college professor-turned-actor.

In a career spanning four decades, Jagdeesh has donned the grease paint in over 300 films. Of late, he is a sought-after actor for character and serious roles, unlike the comedian roles which shot him into stardom, even when that segment was ruled by his illustrious seniors in the 1980s and 1990s.

“Look, when the AMMA started in 1994, I was the Treasurer and now 30 years later, it’s only natural that I should pave the way for youngsters. Though I have decided I will no longer be an office bearer, I will be at the forefront of the AMMA as an ordinary member, as a lot of efforts have been put in by numerous seniors and contemporaries of mine to get our AMMA to the organisation we are now,” he said.

Jagdeesh, who has been witness to the growth of AMMA, instantly recalled that it was late actor Murali who coined the name of the organisation and in the first show of the AMMA way back in 1995 at Kochi, it was megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who was the chief guest.

Jagdeesh opened up after a section of the media began reporting that he is all set to be the new General Secretary of the AMMA when fresh elections are held two months later to elect a new committee.

Hyderabad: Inadequate RTC services, poor frequency compound passenger woes, especially for women

Though the Congress government launched free RTC bus travel for women, fewer buses are plying on the city roads. Here women, mostly students, are forced to wait for a bus for long hours at the busy Himayatnagar.

Hyderabad: The lack of frequency and inadequate bus services in some parts of the city has been causing a significant inconvenience to passengers, particularly for women.

For commuters in some of the busiest areas such as Narayanguda and Himayathnagar, the challenges in reaching their workplaces or educational institutions in time and comfort, have been getting compounded. This lack of reliable public transportation is often leading to longer wait times, overcrowding, and, in some cases, unsafe travel conditions. Many women rely on buses as their primary mode of transportation, and the inadequacy of services is limiting their mobility.

Bus users from these areas are raising concerns and requests for improved and more frequent bus services, enhancing safety and convenience. These bus stops in and around Himayathnagar and Narayanguda are crucial transit points, providing connectivity to various parts of Hyderabad.

R Suma, a college student from Himayathnagar who depends on public transport says, “I have to wait for nearly 20 minutes or more sometimes for a bus to my college every morning.Sometimes, the buses are so crowded that it is difficult to even board them.”

For K Anitha, a working professional from Narayanguda, the lack of frequent buses is a big issue. “I often end up spending extra money on auto-rickshaws and cabs just to reach my office on time. The RTC should consider adding more buses during peak hours to cater to working women like me.”

Though the ‘Mahalakshmi’ free travel facility for women is considered to be a success from the government’s perspective, the overcrowded buses due to the free travel option, often end up causing inconvenience and frustration in passengers.

“It is very inconvenient, especially when I have to travel with my children. The buses are either overcrowded or take too long to arrive. We need more reliable and timely bus services in Himayathnagar,” said P Meena, a homemaker.

Similarly, for Laxman Reddy, a senior citizen who claims to wait for considerably long periods at the bus stop, the wish is to have more buses available. “Sometimes, there is not a single bus for nearly 45 minutes. I wish there were more buses available, especially for older people like us,” he said.

Americans should admit to catastrophe created by them in Gaza

Some observers estimate the associated deaths as of now could be at least another 100,000—those already killed and under the rubble and in those in the throes of death from lack of basic medicines and care, malnutrition and disease with Gaza reporting its first case of polio in twenty-five years on August 26.

There are tens of thousands of children who are struggling as orphans and on a constant move when Israelis command them to evacuate every few days. The sub-par existence and infrastructure that Gaza had before the war is now 80-90 percent destroyed with Gazans surviving in a state few humans faced even a century ago.

In revenge for the Hamas attack and hostage taking of October 7, Netanyahu vowed to annihilate Hamas, an impossible task as Hamas is a movement for liberation after years of Israeli oppression, an idea that cannot be expunged unless its aspiration is fulfilled. Instead of obliterating Hamas, Israeli forces wanting to minimize their own casualties from close combat have cowardly bombed and bombed, dropping 2,000 and 1,000 pound bombs designed to kill indiscriminately and destroy blocks of buildings.

Israel’s carnage of Palestinians has been enabled by the United States. Bombs and every weapon imaginable have been rushed to Israel’s war machine. Yes, the U.S. has publicly highlighted its pressure on Israel to minimize civilian deaths while it has stepped up Israel’s supply of weapons of massive destruction. The U.S. has given financial aid too. The U.S. has defended Israel in all fora. It has vetoed resolutions that would condemn Israel’s atrocities, murderous acts that no human being with eyes, a brain and a dose of honor could justify as self-defense. The United States, a country that professes upholding the rule of law, has undermined lawfulness in a number of ways. It has threatened countries not to initiate or enjoin cases against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and at the International Criminal Court (ICC). Further, the U.S. has even stooped so low as to threaten judges and prosecutors—reminiscent of Mafia tactics that it has abhorred and outlawed at home. No matter how you look at it, the United States is complicit in all that Israel is doing and has done and Washington will ultimately be held accountable.

To ensure the support of Americans, the U.S. government has worked overtime to misinform and deceive its own people. It has said over and over again that it is working tirelessly to minimize civilian deaths and to achieve a ceasefire to free the Israeli hostages, yet it supplies more untargeted massive bombs to Israel and defends Israel behind the scenes. It hunts for the Hamas leader Sinwar and shares intelligence, maintaining that it is not involved in Israel’s war. It mentions Israeli hostages in every breath and hardly ever acknowledges the thousands of Palestinians that have been killed, arrested and tortured without charge by Israeli forces (IDF) since October 7 in the West Bank. After all, a hostage is not only those taken by Hamas on October 7 but also a Palestinian incarcerated without charge by the IDF. One is somehow portrayed as acceptable and the other beyond the pale because Hamas is labelled a terrorist organization by the U.S. and its allies whereas the IDF is portrayed as a “humanitarian army.” The U.S. Secretary of State is portrayed as tirelessly going to the Middle East in search of a ceasefire, yet his missions are more designed to deceive Americans and the world than to bring about a just ceasefire and peace. The United States could dictate a ceasefire as Israel’s backer in chief with one telephone call, yet it pretends that its hands are tied. The ceasefire plan that President Biden proposed was accepted by Hamas and we were told it was accepted by Israel too but then Netanyahu started tinkering with it as to the withdrawal of Israeli forces, most noticeably on the border with Egypt, commonly referred to as the Philadelphi Corridor, and the Netzarim Corridor, allowing the Israeli army to bisect and control the Gaza Strip. It is Israel that has reneged, yet the United States will not say so! This is not the behavior of an “honest” broker. The U.S. media is also all in with these deceptions and continues to refer to Hezbollah and Houthis as Iran-backed, never referring to Israel as American-backed with Israel receiving much more from the U.S. than do the others from Iran. After all, the Houthis and Hezbollah are labelled terrorists by the U.S. and its allies, so anything goes!

The bias and deception go far beyond the White House. While Donald Trump has been all in with Israel, the Democrats have been more cagey and advertised themselves as the “all-inclusive tent,” presumably embracing all Americans regardless of race, creed or color. Jews are reported to be 2 percent of the U.S. population and Muslims 1.3 percent, with Pew Research predicting that the number of Muslims will exceed the number of Jews by 2040. Yet at the recent Democratic Convention, the DNC (obviously with Harris’ blessing) did all it could to silence even a moderate 2-minute speech request in support of Palestinians. A blunder of epic proportion! Those in the uncommitted bloc had proposed any of three speakers for the two-minute slot— Georgia state Rep. Ruwa Romman, Illinois state Rep. Abdelnasser Rashid and Dr. Tanya Haj-Hassan, a pediatric care physician who has treated patients in Gaza. After intense negotiations they were all excluded and yet the mother and father of an American-Israeli hostage (Hersh Goldberg-Polin), were invited to speak at the DNC. American political parties and the vast majority of American lawmakers are in the service of presumed Israeli interests and AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) or the Israeli-Zionist-Jewish lobby. Palestinian captives in the thousands from the West Bank and Palestinian deaths in the tens of thousands in Gaza cannot get two minutes and yet the less than one hundred Israeli hostages get a mother and father and numerous Jewish supports at the DNC.

An immediate step that might temper pro-Israeli bias in the United States would be to ban dual citizenship for all Americans, no matter the country of duality. Today, there are thousands of dual and triple citizens in our country. There are many who have served in foreign armies, such as the IDF, and now work at very high levels of the U.S. government in the White House and in intelligence. Why should we tolerate the threat of conflict of interest and all that it could lead to? People must choose. Who are they and where is their heart and loyalty? Make all such citizens choose. Also we should put an end to all the financial and military aid to Israel now. Can any lawmaker make a credible argument in support of this vast aid we have showered on a country that is richer than France while Americans are in need?

The U.S. designates a group terrorist at will and then feels free to do what it wants. Yes, the attack and hostage taking of October 7 were horrific, committed by an organization that the U.S. labels as terrorist, Hamas. No discussion of the label. But just look at what the IDF has been doing in Gaza and in the West Bank. Look at some of the horrific posts, showing true war crimes, that IDF soldiers have put online, on Instagram. If we label Hamas terrorist, what should we call IDF? And on top of that, look at the massacre that Israel has carried out in Gaza, could this be state terrorism? Is it any “better” than the acts of Hamas? Why does the media label Hamas terrorist at every opportunity but give Israeli forces a free pass and no harsh labels? Why is every attack on Jews labelled terrorist and everyday settler attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank hardly ever characterized as terrorist or even widely mentioned? These designations and the biased reporting of facts are clearly designed to brainwash Americans into buying into the Israeli-Zionist narrative—whatever Israel does is justified as a “defense” of their homeland, land that they have grabbed and illegally occupy, and whatever Palestinians do to resist ceding more of their land and homes to Israelis is “terrorism.” This false and distorted narrative must be carefully examined if we are to deliver a balanced picture of what has happened since 1948 and from even earlier in the Twentieth Century. Only by doing this could we look forward to more balanced U.S. policies in the Middle East.

Is AIPAC so powerful that America’s elections and its national interests have to be subservient to Israel’s? I often hear the words “we are helpless and there is nothing we can do to change the dialogue on Gaza and Palestinian rights” from prominent American friends and my former students, some of whom are very successful. Yes, AIPAC is very powerful, but we can affect the dialogue if we are willing to sacrifice and persist in the cause of justice. In almost every walk of life—academics, business, media, government, healthcare, law, finance, consulting—voices in support of Palestinians and criticism of Israeli and American policies are reportedly silenced with the usual reprimand of “antisemitism” along with threats of loss of employment, promotion and contracts. Americans are still not helpless if they have the courage to persist. The easiest thing we can all do is to inform our families, friends and neighbors of the simple facts without bias and emotion—call them, write to them, send them well-researched articles, videos, podcasts and engage them whenever and wherever our paths cross. We forget that most Americans are badly informed, bombarded by social media with distorted facts and figures.

It is important to set everything in context from 1948, Israeli and Palestinian behavior and America’s support of Israel. We should emphasize that our Congress passes billions of dollars in funding for Israel, while we have millions of children going to bed hungry every night here in America, children who lack decent healthcare and receive sub-par education. If Americans are better informed and stand up and are heard, we can overcome. Hopefully in the process, wealthy patriotic Americans and foundations will support the movement to inform Americans as others have done for AIPAC for years. Wealthy Palestinian-Americans, Arabs and Muslims of whom there are a number in institutions such as Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, BlackRock and Bank of America, should lead the pack—to fund non-profits, online activists, influencers and podcasters to get the Palestinian tragedy across to a wide audience. Yes, they need courage!

There also needs to be a legal fund in the U.S., run by highly qualified lawyers, to take on cases of discrimination against individuals espousing Palestinian rights. This would send a message to organizations, universities and companies acting in contravention to First Amendment rights and discriminating in other ways. At the same time it would give backing and a measure of comfort to those standing up for Palestinian rights and in reality for all Americans.

It is not only Americans that must be informed or confronted, Arab strongmen of the Persian Gulf and indeed many Muslim rulers, if they were united, could readily steer U.S. policies onto a more balanced path. The rulers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) control vast amounts of money and are critical to the world economy, having significant influence over resources such as oil and natural gas. Yet these rulers are scared to do anything. On the one hand, they are afraid to oppose U.S. policies because the United States might then mount a coup and overthrow them as they did the legitimate Prime Minister of Iran Mohammad Mossadegh in 1953. On the other hand, they are afraid of Palestinians, especially Hamas and its distant connection to the Muslim Brotherhood, an organization that they and other Arab rulers (strongmen not endorsed, much less elected by the people) fear could overthrow them with the message of the Quran about illegitimate rulers. Still, activists from abroad could reach the citizenry in these countries to put popular pressure on their rulers urging them to stand up to the United States.

To be successful, what is needed is a multi-pronged campaign aimed at Americans, American politicians and companies, the media in the United States and abroad, across all channels of communication to reach young and old, rich and poor. The message must be persistent and repeated to permeate brains and dislodge the lies perpetuated by AIPAC over the years.

Let me end by saying that we should continue to support Israel as an important ally, akin to France, the UK or Germany, no less but no more. There is no good reason to finance and arm Israel, a richer country than these allies, while we have dire needs at home. At the same time, we must erase the shame of our benign neglect of Palestinians rights, in Israel’s illegal annexation of Palestinian homes and land and in our complicity in the carnage and destruction in Gaza. This is our chance to right all that we have done wrong. If we don’t act now, conditions will only deteriorate, hurting Israelis, Palestinians, others in the region and ultimately America’s long-term national interests throughout the world.

China urges end to foreign occupation of Syria, Israeli strikes

China’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations has called on Israel to cease its illegal attacks on Syria, urging foreign forces to also end their military presence in the Arab country.

Speaking at a UN Security Council briefing on the situation in Syria on Wednesday, Geng Shuang emphasized the importance of upholding Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He said that a stable political process in Syria cannot be achieved without a favorable security environment.

Beijing, he added, supports the Damascus government’s intensified efforts against terror and calls on the international community to join forces in line with international law and Security Council resolutions to combat terrorists operating in Syria.

Geng further said that unilateral sanctions and the illegal plundering of Syria’s resources “must be stopped immediately” as the measures have seriously weakened the country’s ability to recover economically and develop socially.

Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy since March 2011, with Western states and their regional allies aiding terrorist groups that are wreaking havoc there.

Syrian forces, backed by Iran and Russia, have managed to win back control of almost all regions of the Arab country.

However, Syria’s northern parts are still controlled by militants and foreign occupation forces.

China urges donors to guarantee humanitarian projects in Syria

Also in his remarks, the Chinese envoy pointed to the humanitarian situation in Syria, saying thanks to the joint efforts of Damascus and the UN, the cross-border relief mechanism has been in stable operation in the Arab country.

He further called on donors to continue their aid commitments and to guarantee that humanitarian projects throughout Syria are adequately funded.

Meanwhile, Geng noted that China supports UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen’s efforts to continue to work with all parties in line with a Syrian-owned and Syrian-led political process.

Addressing Wednesday’s meeting via video-link, Pedersen said Syria has not been spared from the current escalating tensions across West Asia, citing Israel’s deadly aerial assaults in Homs, Hama, and Dera’a provinces.

He also raised concerns about a surge of attacks by the Daesh terrorist group in Syria, calling for an immediate and sustained de-escalation of hostilities and a cooperative approach to countering terror outfits.

Telegram reacts to its CEO’s arrest, says Pavel Durov has nothing to hide

Pavel Durov

New Delhi: Encrypted messaging app Telegram on Monday said that its CEO Pavel Durov — who was arrested in France — has nothing to hide and “it is absurd to claim that a platform or its owner are responsible for abuse of that platform.”

In its first reaction after Russian-born Durov was arrested at the Le Bourget airport outside Paris after landing via a private jet for allegedly failing to prevent criminal activities on Telegram, the company said it abides by the EU laws, including the ‘Digital Services Act’.

“Telegram CEO Pavel Durov has nothing to hide and travels frequently in Europe. Almost a billion users globally use Telegram as a means of communication and as a source of vital information. We’re awaiting a prompt resolution of this situation,” said the platform which has more than 900 million active users.

“Telegram abides by EU laws, including the Digital Services Act — its moderation is within industry standards and constantly improving,” the company added.

The platform has been a critical source of information for the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia. In a rare interview with US political commentator Tucker Carlson in April, Durov said Telegram’s goal is to be a ‘neutral’ platform and resist requests from governments to moderate.

If convicted, Durov faces up to 20 years in prison. According to multiple reports, he was arrested on several charges which involved alleged spread of criminal activity on Telegram which has about 900 million active users. The billionaire lives in Dubai, where Telegram is based, and holds dual citizenship of France and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

An entrepreneur with at least $15.5 billion in his kitty, he left Russia in 2014 after refusing to comply with government demands to ban opposition communities on his VKontakte social media platform. Russia’s embassy in France is taking “immediate steps” to clarify the situation. Telegram offers end-to-end encrypted messaging and users can also set up “channels” to disseminate information quickly to followers.

Demolition Notice To Revanth Reddy's Brother For House In Restricted Zone

Demolition Notice To Revanth Reddy's Brother For House In Restricted Zone

Hyderabad:

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy — criticized after the razing of the convention centre co-owned by actor Nagarjuna Akkineni — has said the demolition drive to remove encroachments on Hyderabad’s water bodies is impartial. A 30-day notice for demolition has been issued to Tirupathi Reddy, brother of Revanth Reddy, for his home and office that are said to be in the non-development zone of Hyderabad’s Durgam Cheruvu.

This is among hundreds of notices issues to residential and commercial structures reportedly built encroaching on area that originally belonged to water bodies.

Senior Congress leaders have also got demolition notices. Earlier, properties of Congress leaders Pallam Raju and Danam Nagender were demolished by HYDRAA (Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection). The municipal authorities have issued notices to 225 row houses belonging to Telugu cine artists in Manikonda.

“I bought house in 2016-17… I did not know about any violations. If it is illegal, it has to be demolished, no other option. If I was not living here, notices may not have come for others… If they give me time, I will take my belongings and leave,” Tirupathi Reddy told reporters.

Political leaders of all hues are among those who have received demolition notices. The list includes educational institutions run by MIM’s Akbaruddin Owaisi, BRS MLAs Palla Rajeswar and Rajasekhar Reddy, whose father-in-law is a former minister and education baron.

The court has given them a week’s time to reply even as the government has had second thoughts and says they will not disrupt the academic schedule of students studying in these institutions.
“You can pump me with bullets but don’t destroy my work. I am trying to give education to so many young women,” said AIMIM chief Akbaruddin Owaisi.

A team of officers also went to measure the extent of encroachment by a farmhouse in Janwada that KT Rama Rao says he does not own but has only taken on lease. Revanth Reddy has claimed it is KTR’s property and allegedly violates a government order that the BRS government had scrapped.
