Tehran:

Israeli strikes on the Iranian consulate in the Syrian capital on Monday killed at least five people including a senior commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Iranian state media reported.

“At least five people were killed in the attack which was carried out by F-35 fighter jets,” Hossein Akbari, Iran’s ambassador to Damascus, said in front of the levelled building in an interview broadcast on state TV. He did not give the source of his information about the aircraft.

Iran strongly condemns Israel attack on its consulate

Kanani considered this offensive attack as a gross violation of international regulations, especially the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, adding that the Israeli aggression should be condemned in the strongest terms by the international community and the United Nations and necessary action should be taken against the aggressor.

The dimensions of the attack are being investigated, and the responsibility for its consequences lies with the aggressor Zionist regime, he stressed.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran, while reserving its rights to take countermeasures, decides on the type of reaction and punishment of the aggressor,” Kan’ani emphasized.

Earlier on Monday, Iran’s Ambassador to Syria stressed that the country will give a decisive response to the Israeli regime.

Khammam: Registrations and Stamps department sees decline in revenue

Khammam: There has been a decline in revenue in the registrations and stamps department in erstwhile Khammam district in the financial year 2023-24 as against the previous financial year.

The department earned revenue of over Rs 197 crore in the year 2023-24 from land registrations while in the previous year the revenue was over Rs 227 crore.

It resulted in a decline of over Rs 30 crore in the year. There are 11 sub-registrar offices at Khammam (district registrar office), Wyra, Khammam Rural, Kusumanchi, Madhira, Sathupalli and Kallur in Khammam district and at Kothagudem, Bhadrachalam, Burgampahad and Yellandu in Kothagudem district.

As many as 43, 651 documents have been registered in 2023-24 while 47, 102 documents registered in the previous year 2022-23.

In Khammam sub-registrar office 13, 513 documents have been registered in 2023-24 earning revenue of Rs 92.76 crore while in the previous year Rs 108.65 crore was earned by registering 15, 416 documents.

Large number of registrations takes place at Wyra, Khammam Rural and Kusumanchi sub-registrar offices after Khammam.

Only the Wyra office witnessed an increase in documents registrations as well as revenue. At Wyra 4, 474 document registrations took place with revenue of Rs 13.57 crore in 2023-24 while the revenue in the previous year was Rs.12.12 crore from 4, 350 documents registrations.

At the Kusumanchi office, the number of registrations increased but revenue declined. In Kothagudem district, 5, 110 documents registrations took place with revenue of Rs 27.30 crore in 2023-24 while 5, 816 documents were registered earning revenue of Rs 34.64 in the previous year.

Bhadrachalam remained at the bottom of the table with 132 documents registration and with revenue of Rs 4.38 lakh. The officials attributed the decline in revenue to slowdown in the real estate sector as well as the recent Assembly elections.

As the election code of conduct restricted cash carrying limit below Rs 50, 000 and surveillance on bank transactions, the public stayed away from land registrations.

US Teen Hid Head Of Homeless Man He Murdered In Closet. Here's Why

US Teen Hid Head Of Homeless Man He Murdered In Closet To Satisfy 'Fascination With Morbid'

Mr Barnes’s hands were also found by Cohee’s mother, Terri

Police arrested Brian Cohee in 2021 after discovering the remains of 69-year-old Warren Barnes. The incident, which involved a then 19-year-old Cohee, sparked a local investigation and is documented in the true-crime documentary “Parents Discover Teen Son’s Horrifying Secret” on the YouTube channel EXPLORE WITH US.

The heinous crime involved Cohee decapitating, dismembering, and mutilating Mr Barnes’s body, then bringing some of the body parts home, where they were discovered by his mother. His mother on a 911 call told police that the teen had a “fascination with the morbid”.

In addition to the head, Mr Barnes’s hands were also found by Cohee’s mother, Terri, decomposing in a separate plastic bag hidden in his wardrobe.

Cohee attempted to dispose of the remaining body parts by placing them in the trunk of his car and trying to drive the vehicle into the Colorado River.

The documentary showcased police dashcam footage capturing the moment authorities arrived at the Cohee residence.

During the police questioning at his home, Cohee was asked, “Your parents have raised concerns about some items they may have found in your room. Can you elaborate?” Cohee responded calmly, saying, “Yes, I believe so. A human head and hands, from that man who went missing. I killed him with a knife.”

When pressed further by the officers about his motives, Cohee added, “I always wondered what it would feel like to commit murder.”

Later, during a painful recollection in a police interview, Terri remembered the moment she discovered Barnes’s severed head in her son’s closet. She recounted, “I was tidying up his room, putting things away, and came across a plastic container in his closet. As I started digging through it, I found a plastic bag. Curious, I picked it up, feeling its weight, and noticed it was infested with maggots. I took it to the sink, noticing it was double-bagged. I opened the first bag but couldn’t bring myself to open the second. I immediately called his father and said, ‘You need to come over right now.'”

Cohee’s parents subsequently dialled 911 to report the horrifying find, even acknowledging to the dispatcher that their son had displayed a disturbing fascination with ‘death and mortality’.

Cohee confessed to using a kitchen knife to end Barnes’s life and revealed that he had been contemplating taking someone’s life for six months beforehand.

He further disclosed his intent to target a homeless individual or a prostitute, believing that their absence would likely go unnoticed.

In another part of the documentary, Cohee recounted the grisly details of his crime to investigators, displaying no signs of emotion or remorse.

He said, “It was the night of February 27th it was a full moon and I figured I could see so well why not try it out, I am in a bad state of mind at that time, I have a major depressive disorder.

“I was driving around and I saw a shape and I am like ”oh interesting”. I’m like that’s a homeless person, so I grabbed my knife, I put on three layers of gloves because plastic gloves can betray their users because they’re so thin, I took the knife I pulled back the canvas and stabbed his neck.

“At first, he was in a state of panic, asking, ‘What are you doing? Why?’ But I just continued stabbing his neck,” he recounted to investigators.

He described himself as “growling” and making “animalistic noises” as he inflicted the wounds on Barnes.

He then chuckled as he provided nauseating details of how he dismembered the man’s body, followed by an apologetic remark, “Sorry, that’s morbid,” directed at the investigators.

Cohee appeared eager to divulge the grisly specifics of his crime to the investigators, displaying excitement as he recounted the murder and seemed to relish the memory.

Despite pleading insanity, Cohee was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole last year, having been found guilty of first-degree murder.

Additionally, he was convicted on two counts of tampering with a dead body and tampering with evidence.

Judge Richard Gurley, who presided over the case, described it as one of the most horrific he had encountered in his 37-year tenure within the criminal justice system.

Israel responsible for repercussions of attack on Iranian consulate in Syria: FM

Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has censured the recent Israeli attack on the Consular Section of the Iranian Embassy in the Syrian capital of Damascus, stressing that the occupying regime will be responsible for the repercussions of its criminal action.

Amir-Abdollahian made the statement in a phone conversation on Monday with his Syrian counterpart, Faisal Mekdad, who had called to discuss the various aspects of the latest Israeli aggression in the Arab country.

Condemning the attack as a violation of all international obligations and conventions, Amir-Abdollahian said the Zionist regime would be responsible for the consequences of this action as he emphasized the need for a serious response by the international community to such criminal measures.

The top Iranian diplomat also thanked Mekdad for visiting the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Damascus shortly after the Israeli attack.

“[Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu has completely lost his mental equilibrium due to the back-to-back defeats of the Israeli regime in Gaza and his failure to achieve the ambitious goals of the Zionists,” Amir-Abdollahian added.

The Syrian foreign minister, for his part, condemned the regime’s attack “in the strongest terms,” and described it as a gross violation of international regulations, especially the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

Syria’s official news agency, SANA, said the deadly aggression was carried out by “the Israeli enemy” and targeted the Mezzeh neighborhood in Damascus on Monday afternoon.

Iran’s Ambassador to Damascus Hossein Akbari confirmed the reports of the Israeli attack and said the regime had targeted the consular building with six missiles.

Akbari said five to seven people were martyred in the Israeli aggression, including a number of Iranian advisers who were in the building. Two police officers were also among those killed in the attack.

Israel’s attack blatant violation of international regulations: Kan’ani

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kan’ani denounced the brutal Israeli attack, saying it was a blatant violation of international regulations, particularly the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

In a statement, Kan’ani added that the international community and the United Nations should condemn Israel’s act of aggression “in the strongest terms” and take necessary measures to counter the aggressor.

He noted that investigations are underway to determine the aspects of the “hateful attack,” and emphasized that Israel is responsible for its repercussions.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran reserves its rights to take countermeasures, and will decide on the type of response and punishment of the aggressor,” Kan’ani said.

"Apprehension Has No Basis": Top Court To Haryana On Probe Into Man's Death

22-year-old Shubhkaran Singh died in February during a clash between farmers and Haryana Police

New Delhi:

The Supreme Court declined to stay a judicial investigation ordered by the Punjab and Haryana High Court into the death of a 22-year-old man during the protest by farmers at the Punjab-Haryana border.

A Bench of Justices Surya Kant and KV Viswanathan said those who had approached the high court seeking the judicial probe have “some genuine apprehensions”.

“The allegations are against the Haryana Police. Let it come up before the high court on April 10,” Justice Kant said.

The Bench turned down the contention of the Haryana government that the order will impact the morale of the police.

“Your apprehension has no basis,” the Supreme Court said.

On February 13, 22-year-old Shubhkaran Singh left his home in Baloke village in Punjab’s Bathinda district to join the farmers’ march to Delhi. Eight days later, he was killed in clashes between the farmers and police near the Khanauri border separating Punjab and Haryana.

The exact cause of Shubhkaran’s death is not known yet.

The farmers had marched towards Delhi over several demands, including a law to guarantee a minimum support price (MSP) for their crops, pension benefits and crop insurance. MSP is a price fixed by the government and is aimed at protecting farmers from distress sale of their produce.

Determined to not let the farmers proceed to the national capital, the Haryana Police had fortified its borders with Punjab. The cops fired tear gas shells to keep the farmers off.

Farmers had alleged rubber bullets were also used during the clashes. The police, on their part, had said multiple policemen were injured after protesters threw stones and sticks.

Singareni achieves target, set to increase revenue as well

Hyderabad: The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) managed to achieve the annual coal production target of 70.02 million tonnes during the current fiscal(2023-24) ending on March 31.

The SCCL management had stipulated an annual coal production target of 70 million tonnes for its 11 coal mining areas for the financial year 2023-24.

According to company officials, the annual coal despatch touched 69.86 million tonnes, whereas, 420.32 lakh cubic metres of overburden were removed during the fiscal.

It had set itself a huge task of mining 14 million tonnes of coal in February and March to reach the target of 70 million tonnes of coal production for the current financial year.

The company management has reportedly fixed a target of 72 million tonnes for the financial year 2024-25. The Singareni has produced 67 million tonnes of coal during previous financial year (2022-23).

According to officials, the company would have surpassed the 70 million tonnes target easily if it managed to start production in Naini coal block situated in Odisha.

The company anticipated to increase production by 6 million tonnes from its Naini coal block, 3 million tonnes each from KV opencast in Kothagudem area and Ramagundam opencast, 1 million tonnes from JK opencast in Yellandu area, and 0.4 million tonnes from Goleti opencast in Bellampally area, as well as 0.4 million tonnes from Goleti opencast in Bellampally area.

In fact, in the first quarter of the current financial year (April to June), coal production by Singareni stood at 171 lakh tonnes, exceeding the target of 167 lakh tonnes and registering a growth of 102 percent.

The first quarter achievement gave a lot of boost to the company, but due to various reasons the production could not sustain in rest of the quarters and it has to satisfied with 70 million tonnes coal production.

Meanwhile, Singareni’s revenue is likely to touch Rs.37,000 crore during the financial year, a 12 percent increase compare to the last financial year(2022-23), which saw a revenue generation of Rs.33,000 crore.

Out of the Rs.37,000 crore, the company would be earning Rs.32,500 crore through the sale of coal and Rs.4,500 crore through the sale of electricity generated by the Singareni thermal power station.

Rohit Falls For Golden Duck On MI's Night Of Horror, Tops Dubious List

It was a homecoming that Mumbai Indians would not have been anticipating. After two losses in the first two matches of the IPL 2024, the Hardik Pandya-led side was in desperate need of some home comfort. But MI batters failed to impress against a fiery Rajasthan Royals bowling as three of their top four batters were out on 0. They scored only 125/9 – the lowest 1st innings at IPL 2024 so far. The batters who fell for duck were Rohit Sharma, Naman Dhir and Dewald Brevis.

Former MI skipper Rohit Sharma fell for a golden duck (when a batter gets out on the first ball he or she faces). It was his 17th duck in the IPL – the joint-most in  the tournament alongside Dinesh Karthik. The duo is followed by Piyush Chawla (16 ducks).

Rajasthan Royals’ Yuzvendra Chahal (3/11) and Trent Boult (3/22) stifled a struggling Mumbai Indians side and restricted them to 125/9 in their Indian Premier League clash in Mumbai on Monday. Boult struck early with a three-wicket burst inside the powerplay and Chahal made life miserable for rest of the batters in the following overs to return brilliant figures 3/11 in four overs, accounting for Hardik Pandya (34), Tilak Varma (32) and Gerald Coetzee (4).

If Chahal suffocated the MI batters in the middle overs while stopping both Pandya and Varma in their tracks, it was Boult who ran riot in the home side’s top order, dismissing Rohit Sharma, Naman Dhir and Dewald Brevis for ducks.

The tone was set in the first over itself by Boult who rocked the Mumbai Indians twice, including the priced scalp of Rohit who was out for a golden duck.

Looking to get the feel of the ball on his bat perhaps prompted Rohit to go for one which was angled away by Boult, and an outside edge was snaffled splendidly by Rajasthan ‘keeper-skipper Sanju Samson who grabbed it with his right hand putting in a dive.

Dhir (0) was guilty of walking across the wickets and failing to cover Boult’s in-swing, with the ball crashing into his pads. A DRS appeal was eventually burned since the ball tracking showed it would have clipped the leg stump.

Mumbai’s situation worsened when impact player Brevis (0) played one meekly to short third on another delivery angling away from the right-hander off Boult in the third over, with Nandre Burger (2/32) taking a sharp reverse cupped catch.

Ishan Kishan (16) played a few attractive strokes but Burger found an outside edge off the left-hander’s bat with Samson completing another fine grab behind the wickets to keep Mumbai Indians under the pump in the powerplay.

Pandya, who was booed from all parts of the ground here, walked to a similar reception but a brief fightback from him turned the negative noise into cheers.

The Mumbai skipper showed intent when he hit three fours off Burger in the sixth over, but it was Chahal who brought an end to Pandya’s resistance.

Chahal tossed one outside off-stump to make Pandya have a go at it, and the batter obliged with a big swing of the bat but the ball did not travel far enough.

The substitute fielder Rovman Powell read the elevation and speed well to cover a few yards to his right and take a fine diving catch, denying Pandya an opportunity to be a hero for his side.

With PTI inputs

Varma did well on his part but a fine catch at short third man by Ravichandran Ashwin cut short his stay.
