Trump Pays $175 Million Reduced Penalty In New York Civil Fraud Case

Last week, a New York appeals court cut a $454 million bond payment he was originally required to pay, reducing the sum to $175 million and giving him 10 days to pay this smaller amount.

Andhra Pradesh Congress screening committee meets ahead of Lok Sabha elections

New Delhi: Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in the country, the Andhra Pradesh Congress screening committee held a crucial meeting in the national capital.

After the meeting concluded, Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee President YS Sharmila spoke to ANI about the candidate list for the upcoming general elections and informed, “The list will be released very soon.”

She revealed that we are screening the candidates in the committee, adding, “I think in the next 3-4 days, we will be able to release a list of at least 70% of our candidates.”

Meanwhile, on Saturday, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy declared his readiness to stand with the underprivileged to overcome the affluent in the upcoming electoral battle on May 13, which he referred to as the “Kurukshetra war,” implying the victory of good over bad.

At a massive public gathering in Yemmiganur village as part of his Memantha Siddham Yatra, the Chief Minister said that in the last 58 months, they have changed the face of the government’s education sector.

Noting that the government has registered 31 lakh house titles in the name of women beneficiaries, he asked the women to support (tie rakhi to) the YSRCP government.

He further said that these elections aren’t solely about determining the fate of MLAs and MPs; they will also determine the future of 2.5 crore women and their children in Andhra Pradesh.

Notably, the state of Andhra Pradesh is set to hold elections on May 13 for the 175-member Assembly and 25 Lok Sabha seats. The vote counting is scheduled for June 4.

Shaheen's 'Fake' Statement Put Out By PCB? Report Says Star Furious

There is a fresh controversy that is reportedly brewing between Shaheen Afridi and the Pakistan Cricket Board. And a statement put out by the cricket board on its website, on behalf of Afridi, is at the centre of it. In the said statement, Afridi, who was stripped off Pakistan’s white ball captaincy, on Sunday proclaimed his full-fledged support to Babar Azam, who was handed back the leadership role ahead of the T20 World Cup in June.

Afridi led Pakistan in a solitary T20I series against New Zealand before the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided to give back the T20I and ODI reins to Babar. The elegant batter had stepped down from captaincy after the team failed to reach the knockout stages of last year’s 50-over World Cup. Shan Masood will continue as Pakistan Test captain.

The statement read: “It was an absolute honour to captain the Pakistan National Cricket Team. I will always cherish the memories and the opportunity. As a team player, it is my duty to back our captain, Babar Azam,” Afridi said in a statement issued by the PCB.

“I have played under his captaincy and have nothing but respect for him. I will try to help him on and off the field. We are all one. Our aim is the same, to help Pakistan become the best team in the world,” he added.

In  the same statement, Babar said he will lean on Afridi to exploit his tactical understanding of the game.

“It was a pleasure to play under Shaheen’s leadership. He is still young and is improving as a player and as a leader every day. As a captain, I have always valued his input and I will keep consulting him for important decisions going forward.

“We must take advantage of his strategic understanding of the game. Our joint aim is to make this team the best in the world,” said Babar.

Now, a report in ESPNCricinfohas claimed that Afridi is furious as he did not make any such statement. The report claimed that the said statement was put out by the PCB without the permission of the fast bowler. The report further added that Afridi was about to make release a personal statement on the ‘fake’ quote was stopped after an emergency meeting by the PCB. Another meeting with PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi and Afridi has been organised, said the report.

Hezbollah Says Israel Will Pay For Strike On Iran Embassy In Syrian

Hezbollah Says Israel Will Pay For Strike On Iran Embassy In Syrian

This crime will not pass without the enemy receiving punishment, Hezbollah said.

Beirut:

Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah group warned Tuesday that Israel will pay for killing high-level Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) in a strike on the country’s consulate in Damascus, Syria, the day before.

Hezbollah has exchanged near-daily cross-border fire with Israel in support of its ally Hamas since the Gaza war erupted in October.

“Certainly, this crime will not pass without the enemy receiving punishment and revenge,” Hezbollah said in a statement.

The Israeli strike killed seven IRGC members including Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi and another high-ranking officer, Brigadier General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, the IRGC said.

Britain-based war monitor the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 11 people were killed in the strikes, including eight Iranians, two Syrians and one Lebanese, all of them fighters.

Hezbollah said Zahedi was “one of the first to support, sacrifice, and persevere for many years to develop and advance the work of the resistance (Hezbollah) in Lebanon”.

The Observatory said Zahedi served as the leader of Iran’s elite Quds Force for Palestine, Syria and Lebanon, adding that he was killed along with his deputy, his aide, and the Quds force chief of staff for the same three countries.

Israel said it would not comment on the reported attack, but Iranian officials vowed a stiff response with fears of even further violence between Israel and Iran’s allies triggered by the Gaza war.

"Happy To Be In BJP," Says Maneka Gandhi

'Happy To Be In BJP,' Says Maneka Gandhi

“I am very happy that I came back to Sultanpur,” Maneka Gandhi said.

Sultanpur, UP:

Days after BJP MP Varun Gandhi was denied a ticket from his constituency, his mother and BJP MP Maneka Gandhi, on her 10-day visit to Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur, broke silence and expressed happiness to be a part of the party.

On being asked what Varun Gandhi would do now, she replied, “Ask him what he wants to do. We will consider this after the elections. There is time.”

“I am very happy that I am in the BJP. I thank Amit Shah, PM Modi and Nadda Ji for giving me the ticket. The ticket was announced very late, so there was a dilemma as to where I should fight. From Pilibhit or Sultanpur. I am grateful for the decision the party has taken now,” she said.

She further added, “I am very happy that I came back to Sultanpur because this place has a history where no MP came back into power again in Sultanpur.”

It was her first visit to Sultanpur after getting the ticket. On her 10-day visit to the district, she will pay a visit to 101 villages of the entire Lok Sabha constituency.

She was given a warm welcome by the party leaders and workers at various places like Katka Guptarganj, Tatianagar, Tedhui, Golaghat, Shahganj Square, Dariyapur Tiraha and Payagipur Square.

During this, Maneka Gandhi also paid respect to the statues of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay.

BJP District President Dr. RA Verma, BJP State Minister Meena Choubey, Lok Sabha in-charge Durgesh Tripathi, Lok Sabha convenor Jagjit Singh Changu, MLA Raj Prasad Upadhyay, MLA Rajesh Gautam, and spokesperson Vijay Raghuvanshi, were present.

Earlier, Varun Gandhi penned a heartfelt letter to the people of his constituency, saying that his relationship with Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit will not end till his last breath.

Several Aid Workers Killed in Israeli Strike In Gaza: NGO Leader

Several Aid Workers Killed in Israeli Strike In Gaza: NGO Leader

More than 32,000 people have been killed in Gaza since October in Israeli retaliation against Hamas.

Washington:

Several people working for US-based charity World Central Kitchen were killed Monday in an Israeli strike on the Gaza Strip, according to the organisation’s founder.

World Central Kitchen “lost several of our sisters and brothers in an IDF air strike in Gaza. I am heartbroken and grieving for their families and friends and our whole WCK family,” chef Jose Andres posted on social media site X.

Earlier, the health ministry in the Hamas-run territory had said the bodies of four foreign aid workers and their Palestinian driver were brought to the hospital in central Gaza’s Deir el-Balah after an Israeli strike targeted their vehicle.

Hamas said in a statement that the aid workers included “British, Australian and Polish nationalities, with the fourth nationality not known”, and that the fifth person killed was a Palestinian driver and translator.

The Israeli military said in a statement that it was “conducting a thorough review at the highest levels to understand the circumstances of this tragic incident”, adding that it had been “working closely with WCK” in the effort to provide aid to Palestinians.

At the Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir el-Balah, an AFP correspondent saw five bodies with three foreign passports lying nearby.

Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it was “urgently seeking to confirm reports that an Australian aid worker has died in Gaza. These reports are very distressing.”

World Central Kitchen has been involved in delivering the aid arriving by boat from Cyprus, and in the construction of a temporary jetty in Gaza.

Since Hamas’s October 7 attack, Gaza has been under a near-complete blockade, with the United Nations accusing Israel of preventing deliveries of humanitarian aid urgently needed by 2.4 million Palestinians.

UN agencies have warned repeatedly that northern Gaza is on the verge of famine, calling the situation a man-made crisis because aid lorries are backed up on the Egypt-Gaza border awaiting long checks by Israeli officials. Israel has denied responsibility.

Two charities have organised aid deliveries by sea from Cyprus, with the second flotilla, setting sail Saturday with around 400 tonnes of supplies, a fraction of Gaza’s needs.

Hamas’s October 7 attack resulted in about 1,160 deaths in Israel, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally of Israeli official figures.

Israel’s retaliatory campaign has killed at least 32,845 people, mostly women and children, according to the health ministry in Gaza.

Arvind Kejriwal Lodged In 14×8 Feet Cell. See What All Court Has Allowed

Arvind Kejriwal Lodged In 14x8 Feet Cell. See What All Court Has Allowed

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been jailed in connection with the liquor policy case (File)

New Delhi:

Arvind Kejriwal will have home-cooked meals, bottled drinking water, and a supply of toffees in case of a sudden drop in blood sugar levels, a Delhi court said Monday as the Chief Minister begins a 14-day spell in the city’s Tihar Jail following his arrest last month in the alleged liquor policy scam.

He will also be allowed to meet his wife – Sunita Kejriwal – during his time in jail, and have access to bed linen from home, including pillows and a quilt. He will also be provided with medical equipment to monitor his health given he is a diabetic patient and has a weak immune system.

The Aam Aadmi Party boss will be in Tihar’s Jail No 2, with his former deputy, Manish Sisodia, and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi’s K Kavitha among the opposition leaders behind bars in this case.

Mr Kejriwal was taken to jail this afternoon after the Enforcement Directorate’s extended custody finished. The ED cast the Delhi Chief Minister as the “kingpin” in the alleged scam, and told the court the AAP leader had given “evasive replies” and concealed information relevant to the investigation.

What Has Court Allowed Arvind Kejriwal In Jail

Prison authorities have also been asked to give Mr Kejriwal three books – copies of the Bhagvad Gita and the Ramayan, and How Prime Ministers Decide, a book by journalist Neerja Chowdhury.

Mr Kejriwal can also meet his wife, Sunita Kejriwal, during his stay in jail.

Mrs Kejriwal has emerged as a conduit between the voters and the AAP, in the fight back against the ED’s allegations, which have roiled the opposition party weeks before the Lok Sabha election.

She has also emerged as a powerful public voice after her speech at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan this weekend, in which she shared the stage with heavyweights like former Congress boss Sonia Gandhi.

It is unclear if Mr Kejriwal will be allowed an increased number of meetings – with government officials and ministers – given he remains Delhi’s Chief Minister. Current prison rules do not allow for this, and this sets up a possible explosive clash between the AAP and the central government.

The BJP in power at the centre has repeatedly called for Mr Kejriwal to resign, while the AAP has equally firmly said he will not step down, pointing out he has only been charged and not convicted.

Also, given Mr Kejriwal’s medical condition – his weakened immune system means he is at risk of potentially severe allergic reactions – the court also said he could use bed linen from home.

He will also get a supply of essential medicines and medical equipment, including those to monitor blood sugar levels. Mr Kejriwal will also be given home-cooked food since he is on a special diet.

Normally, prisoners kept at Tihar Jail get dal, sabzi, and five rotis, or rice, two times a day, in addition to a cup of tea in the morning and evening, as part of the prison rules.

Finally, Mr Kejriwal will also continue wearing a locket, which has religious significance.

Arvind Kejriwal Prison Routine

Mr Kejriwal and the other prisoners in Tihar Jail No 2 will begin their days at sunrise, which is around 6:30 am this time of the year. The prisoners will get tea and a few slices of bread as their breakfast.

After a morning shower Mr Kejriwal will leave for court (if a hearing is scheduled) or sit down for a meeting with his legal team. Lunch will be between 10:30 and 11 am.

Prisoners are then locked in their cells till 3 pm, after which they get a cup of tea and two biscuits.

Dinner is at 5:30 pm, after which the prisoners are locked up for the night by 7 pm.

Mr Kejriwal can watch the television except during scheduled prison activities, such as meals and lock-UP. Between 18 and 20 channels, including news, entertainment, and sports are allowed.

Why Was Arvind Kejriwal Arrested?

Mr Kejriwal, his colleagues behind bars, and other senior AAP leaders have denied all charges; they have pointed to an investigation that has spanned two years and resulted in no cash recovery, and accused the BJP of a “political conspiracy” to discredit the opposition party before an election.

The BJP has firmly dismissed such claims.

Changes In IPL Dates: KKR's Home Game To Be Rescheduled For This Reason

Kolkata Knight Riders’ home IPL match against Rajasthan Royals on April 17 is set to be rescheduled after the local police expressed its inability to provide adequate security due to Ram Navami celebrations on that day, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has informed the BCCI. Bengal is also set to vote on April 19 in the first phase of the seven-phase general elections. The voting in Kolkata will take place on June 1. “Since the match is coinciding with Ram Navami and a portion of security is already deployed for elections, it won’t be possible for us to provide adequate security for the match on April 17,” Kolkata Police has stated in a letter to CAB president Snehasish Ganguly.

The CAB has suggested that the match be advanced either by a day (April 16) or pushed back by 24 hours to April 18.

“Yes, the CAB has informed us that local police has asked for rescheduling of the date and the matter is being looked into. We haven’t yet decided on the new date,” a senior BCCI official told PTI.

On part of CAB, a senior office-bearer informed: “We have suggested two dates, April 16 or 18. In any case, it is KKR’s home match and will be played at the Eden Gardens.” The KKR squad is currently in Visakhapatnam for a game against Delhi Capitals on Wednesday.

Regarding the date change, there are a few practical issues bothering the BCCI.

“When you change one date, there is a chain reaction. Travel itinerary of teams change, broadcasters need to change their travel plans, ticketing and it becomes a huge logistical nightmare,” the senior BCCI official said.

“So we need to weigh in a lot of things before finalising a schedule change. Obviously, if the city police is unable to deploy adequate security, there is little option left,” he added.

Of the two dates suggested by the CAB, April 18 looks a bit problematic as the first phase of polls starts the very next day. On April 19, Cooch Behar, Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri in West Bengal go to polls.

However, Kolkata won’t be going to polls till June 1, by which time the IPL will have ended.
