Teen Who Helped People Flee During Moscow Concert Attack Recalls Horror

At least 144 people were killed in Moscow concert hall attack

Teenage cloakroom attendant Artem Donskov helped people flee to safety when gunmen rushed into a concert hall near Moscow last month. Now his mother is trying to get him to see a psychologist.

In an interview with Reuters, 14-year-old Artem said he and his colleagues helped people escape via a service corridor and directed them to the exits after the attackers sprayed concert-goers with gunfire and set the building ablaze.

At one point panic broke out, he said.

“As I understood it, some man yelled that the terrorists might be coming towards us and everyone was frightened. At first, some people ran into a dead end, then they ran outside, dropping their mobile phones and bags, and tried to escape as fast as they could.”

At least 144 people were killed in the March 22 attack, the deadliest in Russia for 20 years. Islamic State militants claimed responsibility but Russia says the attackers were linked to Ukraine, something Kyiv has repeatedly denied.

Artem’s mother Alexandra Donskova told Reuters that he and the family were emotionally exhausted. She said he was a shy boy and she was concerned about his mental health.

“Of course I would like him to have at least one session with a psychologist, because I can’t treat my own child. And I would like him to work through this situation,” she said.

“He isn’t agreeing to it at the moment, but maybe I will insist a little bit later.”

Case Against Journalist Over Trespassing To Shoot Visuals Of PM Modi: Cops

No arrest has been made yet, said a police official (Representational)

Mumbai:

A case has been registered against a reporter and a video journalist of a news channel for allegedly trespassing into a house to shoot visuals of Prime Minister Narendra Modi from a building near the airport, police said on Wednesday.

The complainant alleged that the duo forcibly entered his 11th-floor flat at Paywadi SRA Cooperative Society, close to the domestic terminal of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in suburban Vile Parle (East), an official said.

PM Modi visited Mumbai on Monday morning.

As per complainant Mahesh Patel, a 61-year-old rickshaw driver, the duo told him that they had got permission from the housing society’s secretary and security guard to shoot visuals of the PM, and entered his flat without his consent, using force.

They shot visuals of the PM’s special aircraft and PM Modi himself from the flat’s window for some 15 minutes, he said.

A case was registered under sections 448 (house trespass), 188 (disobeying orders issued by a public servant), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 34 (common intent) of the Indian Penal Code at Vile Parle police station but no arrest has been made, the police official said.

Google Plans To Charge For AI-Powered Search Engine: Reports

Google Plans To Charge For AI-Powered Search Engine: Reports

The move would mark Google’s first time in putting any of its core products behind a paywall.

California:

Alphabet’s Google is considering charging for premium features on its generative AI-powered search engine, the Financial Times reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the plan.

The tech giant is looking at a variety of options, including incorporating AI-powered search features to its premium subscription services, which already provide access to its new Gemini AI assistant in Gmail and Docs, the report said.

Alphabet’s shares dipped about 1% in extended trade.

The move would mark Google’s first time in putting any of its core products behind a paywall, as it seeks to gain ground in the fast-moving AI space. Its traditional search engine would remain free of charge and ads would continue to appear alongside search results even for subscribers, the report added.

“We’re not working on or considering an ad-free search experience. As we’ve done many times before, we’ll continue to build new premium capabilities and services to enhance our subscription offerings across Google,” the company told Reuters in an emailed statement.

Google, which invented the foundational technology for today’s AI boom, is also locked in battle with two industry players that have captured the business world’s attention – ChatGPT’s creator OpenAI and its backer Microsoft.

Watch: Russell Floored By Ishant's Yorker. His Reaction Can't Be Missed

Ishant Sharma produced a stunning yorker that completely floored Andre Russell during the IPL 2024 match between Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday. In the final over of the KKR innings, Ishant produced a devastating delivery that crashed into the stumps and left Russell on the floor. The video of the dismissal has already gone viral on social media and during his walk towards the dugout, even Russell could not help but applaud the delivery. However, the effort was not enough as KKR ended up scoring a mammoth 272/7 in 20 overs against Delhi Capitals.

Sunil Narine produced a six-hitting exhibition en route to a blistering 85 while young Angkrish Raghuvanshi scored a fifty on his IPL batting debut as Kolkata Knight Riders posted an imposing 272 for seven against Delhi Capitals on Wednesday.

Continuing his explosive run, Narine punished all Delhi bowlers alike, sending the ball over the boundary rope seven times. He also hit seven fours in his 39-ball stay.

The Capitals were guilty of dropping him on 53 and Narine made his opponents suffer as he notched his highest-ever score in T20 cricket.

Raghuvanshi (54 off 27 balls), who didn’t get to bat in his first IPL match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, also fired on all cylinders, complementing Narine as the pair shared an explosive 104-run stand off 48 balls.

Andre Russell (41 off 19 balls) and Rinku Singh (26 off 8 balls) provided the final flourish to KKR.

It was a forgettable performance by the Delhi bowlers as they conceded the highest total in the team’s history. KKR hit as many as 18 sixes and 28 fours.

Narine his his first of many boundaries when he creamed a short ball by Khaleel Ahmed to deep point.

The West Indian took a special liking for veteran pacer Ishant Sharma, collecting 26 runs from the fourth over that included three sixes and two fours, giving a glimpse of what was to come.

At the other end Phil Salt hit a few before he was dropped by David Warner, but the Englishman couldn’t make use of the reprieve, getting out in the very next ball to bring Raghuvanshi to the middle.

The 18-year-old hit his very first ball of the IPL for a boundary and that was followed by another four.

KKR continued to hit boundaries aplenty, amassing 88 runs in the powerplay as DC bowlers struggled to find ways to stop them.

DC seemed to make inroads by dismissing Narine and Raghuvanshi in consecutive overs but Russell had other plans.

The DC bowlers were guilty of feeding the all-rounder with full tosses which he dispatched to the boundary with ease.

Karan Johar compares loyalty to Birkin bag, says it has long waiting list

Mumbai: Bollywood producer-director Karan Johar, who last directed the romantic drama film ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’, has some lessons on loyalty in modern times.

The multi-hyphenate took to the Stories section of his Instagram on Wednesday, and shared a cryptic message about loyalty and how it has become a valued asset these days given its rarity.

KJo wrote: “Loyalty is like a Birkin, it has a long waiting list.”

This is not the first time Karan has shared something cryptic on social media. For the past few days, he has been sharing shayaris and texts on his Instagram Stories and it has sparked the curiosity of netizens.

Earlier, he took to his Instagram Story and shared a note about “single status” and how it’s always better than being committed.

He had written: “Will live life in the absence of a companion. The AC temperature won’t change. If one can’t find love, it’s alright as there will be no compromise on separate bathrooms. The demand for monogamy won’t be fulfilled. Life and options you don’t get for the 2nd time, it’s better to celebrate single status. ‘Another date’ is always better than an anniversary.”

Meanwhile, on the work front, he recently produced the Sara Ali Khan-starrer streaming movie ‘Ae Watan Mere Watan’, and also Sidharth Malhotra-starrer ‘Yodha’ that did well at the box office.

Mayank Or Coetzee? Controversy Over IPL 2024's Fastest Ball – Explained

Mayank Yadav has impressed both experts as well as fans with his fiery pace and during Lucknow Super Giants’ IPL 2024 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, he claimed the distinction of bowling the fastest delivery of this year’s competition at 156.7 kmph. However, the record came with a slight controversy as earlier in the day, Mumbai Indians fast bowler Gerald Coetzee grabbed headlines for allegedly bowling a 157.4 kmph delivery against Rajasthan Royals. While the news did do the rounds on social media, the official list shown by IPL during LSG’s game did not feature Coetzee’s record.

Mayank had earlier claimed the record with a fiery 156.7 kmph delivery during the match against Punjab Kings and on Tuesday, the IPL claimed that the youngster has bettered his own record.

There was another list that showed the fastest deliveries in the history of the competition and it was topped by Shaun Tait with his 157.7 kmph effort. He was followed by Lockie Ferguson (157.3kph) and Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Umran Malik (157kph) and Mayank currently in fourth position.

According to ESPNCricinfo, the speedometer was at fault in reading Coetzee’s speed during the RR match and the actual speed of the delivery was actually around 141 kmph.

Following his three-wicket haul against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pacer Mayank Yadav said that Cameron Green‘s dismissal was special to him among other wickets.
Within just two matches, Mayank has gathered headlines for his sheer pace, touching bowling speeds of 150 kmph-plus consistently.

In a video shared on IPL’s official social media handle, Mayank said that the over where he dismissed Green was very aggressive. He revealed that the LSG skipper KL Rahul told the pacer to “attack a bit” and use bouncers.

“Green’s wicket was special because I personally like just like one kind of wicket, which is bowling people out, like any fast bowler. That over was a bit aggressive because I’d picked a wicket in the previous over. The captain also told me to attack a bit and use the bouncer with my pace,” Mayank said.

He added that his side’s plan was to bowl at the stumps and not to give any room to the RCB batters.

“No extra training, I just do things that make me quicker and stronger. This was the first time I played on this ground. I’d heard that 180 is easily chaseable on this ground but our plan was to keep bowling at the stumps and not give the batters any room,” he added.

During the match against RCB, Yadav bagged three wickets in his four-over spell, giving only 14 runs. Following his remarkable spell, the pacer was named the ‘Player of the Match’. The LSG seamer scripted history at the age of 21 as he became the first bowler in the history of IPL to win the ‘Player of the Match’ award in their first two matches.

2 Plead Guilty To Insider Trading Related To Trump Media Merger

2 Plead Guilty To Insider Trading Related To Trump Media Merger

Trump Media is also embroiled in legal battles in Delaware and Florida (File)

Two men pleaded guilty on Wednesday to insider trading in securities in the company that ultimately took former US President Donald Trump’s media business public.

Michael Shvartsman, 53, head of Miami-based venture capital firm Rocket One Capital, and his brother Gerald Shvartsman, 46, each pleaded guilty to one count of securities fraud before US District Judge Lewis Liman in Manhattan.

Rocket One’s chief investment officer, Bruce Garelick, is scheduled to face trial on related charges on April 29.

Prosecutors charged the trio last year with illegally trading on inside information about Trump Media & Technology Group’s (TMTG) plan to go public through a merger with a blank-check company. TMTG operates Truth Social, Trump’s main social media platform.

Prosecutors said the trio signed confidentiality agreements in June 2021 when they were approached to become early investors in Digital World Acquisition, the blank-check company. The agreements required them to keep information they learned confidential and not trade the company’s securities in the open market, prosecutors said.

After hearing the company was in merger talks with TMTG, prosecutors said the trio tipped others and bought Digital World securities, selling them after the deal was announced on Oct. 20, 2021, to make a total of $22 million in illegal profit.

Michael and Gerald Shvartsman said in court that they knew what they were doing was wrong when they traded on nonpublic information.

“I’ve made a terrible mistake,” Gerald Shvartsman said at the hearing.

“Insider trading is cheating, plain and simple,” US Attorney Damian Williams said in a statement after the pleas.

The Shvartsmans are scheduled to be sentenced on July 17. Securities fraud carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, but any sentence would be imposed by the judge based on a range of factors. The average prison sentence in federal fraud cases in the US last year was around two years.

TMTG was publicly listed in late March, and its shares have been on a wild ride fueled by speculators betting on enthusiasm for Trump, the Republican presidential candidate in November’s election.

The stock shed early gains this week as Truth Social’s parent company disclosed it had lost more than $58 million in 2023.

TMTG shares were trading at around $51.60 on Wednesday morning, making Trump’s stake worth about $4 billion, though he is not allowed to sell or borrow against it for six months.

Trump Media is also embroiled in legal battles in Delaware and Florida with co-founders Wesley Moss and Andrew Litinsky, who have accused the company of trying to improperly dilute their stake. Trump Media has argued they failed to earn their shares and seeks to strip them of their ownership.

"Will Never Go To BJP Even If They Offer…": Siddaramaiah

'Will Never Go To BJP Even If They Offer...': Siddaramaiah

Siddaramaiah said that Shudras-Dalits and Women are not allowed inside the RSS sanctum sanctorum.

Mysore:

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday said that he will never join the BJP even if he is offered the position of President or Prime Minister of the country.

While speaking at the meeting of SC-ST activists and leaders held at the District Congress office to seek votes for Lok Sabha candidate M. Laxman, the CM said that political power comes only when we have ideological clarity. People should not fall for BJP-RSS. Shudras-Dalits and Women are not allowed inside the RSS sanctum sanctorum.

“Deve Gowda, who had said that he would leave the country if Modi became the Prime Minister, is now saying that he has an inseparable bond with Modi. He also said that politicians should have ideological clarity,” added Mr Siddaramaiah.

Karnataka Chief Minister further said that BJP and RSS are against social justice. Therefore they do not like reservations. Reservation is not alms. It is the right of the oppressed communities. Reservation should exist as long as the caste system exists in the society.

The CM said, “Before independence and the British period, did we, the Shudras have the right to study? Did women have any rights? A woman had to burn herself alive immediately after the death of her husband. Such inhuman practices inspired by Manusmriti were prohibited by our constitution. Therefore, they want to bring back the Manusmirthi by making amendments to the constitution. The CM appealed to the people to understand this properly.

Shudras, Dalits and women are not allowed inside the sanctum sanctorum. Senior BJP leaders like Nanje Gowda and BJP leader Gulihatti Shekhar have also openly said that they were not allowed inside the sanctum sanctorum of the RSS. This is the truth. The Shudras are just being used. Therefore, Shudras, Dalits and women should not join to RSS, he said.

The CM asked ‘Should we not criticise the JDS which has now joined hands with the RSS? Congress passed the law to allocate money in the budget according to the Dalit population. Our government has enacted a law that 24.1 per cent of development funds should be set aside. This progressive law has not been implemented by any BJP government in the country. Only our Congress government has done it. He also said that the community should be aware of all these facts.

Mr Siddaramaiah said that it was our Congress government that implemented reservations for Dalits in contracts. Is it not the same BJP that opposed the Mandal report and the reservation for backward classes? The SCP/ TSP Act was enacted by the Congress Government. Therefore, the CM appealed to the people to make Congress candidate M. Laxman win, instead of supporting those who provoke them emotionally and threaten the lives of the poor.

Social Welfare Minister HC Mahadevappa, KPCC Working President Tanveer Seth, Lok Sabha candidate Laxman and leaders of the SC/ST wing of KPCC were present on the stage.

Karnataka will have elections in two phases on April 26 and May 7 for 28 constituencies. The general election for 543 Lok Sabha seats will be held in seven phases starting April 19, with counting to be held on June 4.

J&K Apni Party Allotted "Bat" Symbol For 2024 Lok Sabha Elections

J&K Apni Party Allotted 'Bat' Symbol For 2024 Lok Sabha Elections

Happy to have “bat” as the party’s symbol for the polls, says Altaf Bukhari (File)

Jammu:

The Altaf Bukhari-led Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party has been allotted “bat” symbol for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in the Union Territory.

In a communication to the Chief Electoral Officer of Jammu and Kashmir, the Election Commission (EC) has said it has withdrawn the “bat” symbol allotted to the Sanyogwadi Party for the general elections.

It said the common symbol allotted to the Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party is only for the forthcoming general elections to the Lok Sabha. “Further use of common symbol by the party is not allowed after the completion of the election,” the communication read.

On the allocation of the symbol, former minister Altaf Bukhari told news agency PTI that he was happy to have “bat” as the party’s symbol for the polls. “Bat represents the famous willow (cricket bat-making) industry of Kashmir and we are sure of scoring a sixer in the electoral battle of J&K,” he said.

In the communication, the EC said, “…the commission has withdrawn the symbol ‘Hockey and Ball’ allotted to ‘Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party’ in the General Election to Lok Sabha, 2024, for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.” “Further, the commission has allotted the symbol ‘bat’ to ‘Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party’ in the remaining phases of the General Election to Lok Sabha, 2024, for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir under Para 10B of Symbols Order, 1968,” the communication read.

The commission said returning officers should be directed to allot the common symbol “bat” to candidates set up by the registered unrecognised political party, subject to fulfillment of the provisions of Para 13 of the Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order, 1968.

Para 13 of the order relates to setting up of candidates by a party, according to the EC.

“In the event of the (Apni) party failing to meet the requirement of the minimum number of candidates, as prescribed in Para 10B of the Symbols Order, 1968, i.e. in minimum two parliamentary constituencies in the concerned state or Union Territory, then the said common symbol shall not be available to their candidates,” the letter said.
