'Stars Frustrated, Militant Coach': Star All-Rounder Blasts KKR's Pandit

Chandrakant Pandit is a domestic cricket legend in India. Under his coaching Mumbai, Vidarbha, Madhya Pradesh enjoyed much success in the Ranji Trophy. From 2023, Pandit has been associated with Kolkata Knight Riders as coach. Under him, Kolkata Knight Riders put up a fighting show despite some top stars missing from action in IPL 2023. However, his entry was not liked by several overseas stars, according to David Wiese. The all-rounder played in three matches for KKR in IPL 2023

“There were certain issues going on behind the scenes in the team. Guys weren’t happy with certain things that were going on, and a lot of the times, it was a tough changing room. There was a new coach coming in and he liked to do things a certain way, and that didn’t sit well with the players,” David Wiese said ‘Hitman for Hire: A year in the life of a franchise cricketer’ podcast hosted by Sam Keir.

He went on to say that some of the KKR stars were frustrated under Chandrakant Pandit.

“Guys were frustrated because a lot changed, and the coach brought in things that he thought would bring success. But as an overseas player, they sometimes don’t sit well. He’s known in India as a fairly militant type of coach, a strict disciplinarian. The overseas guys who’ve played all over the world don’t need someone coming in and telling him how to behave and what to wear and what to do. I was chill with it, but there were players more stubborn than me,” he added.

“As the tournament goes on, you kind of sense whether you have a shot at qualifying or not. It’s not about whether you’re playing; it’s just about spending another couple of weeks away from family. For me personally, the result of the game didn’t matter that much, but I still got pulled into personal performances.”

He also mentioned Rinku Singh in the course of his conversation.

“As a player, you appreciate it when guys do well. Rinku Singh smacks five sixes – you can’t not appreciate that. It’s just that the result doesn’t have much emphasis anymore. You don’t sit there nervous about whether you’re going to win. And you start investing in the guys’ personal performances instead.”

"Happiest Person": Kavya Maran's Reaction Viral As SRH Thrash MI. Watch

For SunRisers Hyderabad, Wednesday will be remembered for a long time. They not just defeated Mumbai Indians by 31 runs, but did so after registering 277/3 in the first innings – the highest-ever IPL score. Three SRH batters smashed quickfire fifties as SRH made MI look an ordinary team. Travis Head, playing his first IPL game this season, blasted a 24-ball 62, while Abhishek Sharma slammed 63 off 23 to lay the foundation. Heinrich Klassen (80 not out) and Aiden Markram (42 not out) provided the late charge to take the hosts past the 250-mark. The previous highest total was 263 for five, achieved by Royal Challengers Bangalore back in 2013.

SRH owner Kavya Maran was ecstatic and could be seen fervently cheering her team from the stands. “Happiest person in the world” wrote a X User.

Earlier, Fifties from Heinrich Klassen, Abhishek Sharma, and Travis Head tore the Mumbai Indians (MI) bowling attack apart, as SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) registered the highest score in the history of IPL which is 277/3 in their 20 overs on Wednesday.

MI skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and asked the hosts, SRH, to bat first at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Openers Mayank Aggarwal and Travis Head came out to bat. Both the batters played attacking shots from the start of the innings. They built a partnership of 45 runs in just 4 overs before Mayank was dismissed on the first ball of the innings by Hardik. He was able to score 11 runs.

SRH completed their fifty in the 4.4 overs Head slammed a boundary on the bowling of Pandya.

After Mayank’s dismissal, Abhishek Sharma came out to bat. He along with Head built a partnership of 68 runs from just 23 balls. Head was sent back to the pavilion after playing an outstanding knock of 62 runs in 24 balls which was laced with nine fours and three sixes in the innings.

The hosts touched the 100-run nark on the last ball of the seventh over as Abhishek smashed a six to leg-spinner Piyush Chawla.

After Head’s wicket, former SRH skipper Aiden Markram came to support Abhishek. Both the batters played brilliantly and put on a partnership of 48 runs in just 19 balls before Abhishek was dismissed after playing a marvellous innings of 63 runs in just 23 balls with the help of seven maximums and three boundaries.

The Hyderabad franchise completed the 150-run mark on the second ball of the 11th over as the left-hand batter took a single on the bowling of Chawla.

"Palestinians Have Been Denied Their Homeland": S Jaishankar

He made the remarks while interacting with the Indian community in Malaysia (File)

Kuala Lumpur:

In a strong statement on the Israel-Palestine issue, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that whatever the rights and wrongs in the whole conflict between Israel and Palestine, the underlying fact is that the Palestinians have been denied their rights and homeland.

He stated that what transpired on October 7 was a ‘terrorist attack’ but also acknowledged, in reference to the Israeli counteroffensive in Gaza, that every response must take into account something called international humanitarian law.

Mr Jaishankar, who is on a visit to Malaysia, was interacting with the Indian community during an event.

“How different pulls and pressures can be. On one hand, what happened on October 7 was terrorism. On the other hand, nobody would countenance the death of innocent civilians. Countries may be justified in their own minds in responding, but you cannot have a response that…every response must take into account something called international humanitarian law,” Jaishankar said.

“The fact is whatever the rights and wrongs of the issue, there is underlying issue of the rights of the Palestinians and the fact that they have been denied their homeland,” he added.

Hamas launched a horrific terror attack in Israel on October 7 killing more than 1200 people and holding more than 250 people as hostages, out of which over 100 are still in captivity.

In response, Israel launched a strong counteroffensive in the Gaza Strip targeting the Hamas units. However, the operation has also resulted in civilian casualties. According to Gaza ministry, more than 32,000 people have been killed in Gaza including women and children.

Notably, PM Modi was one of the first global leaders to condemn the horrific terror attack on Israel by Hamas on October 7.

However, India has also continued with its weight behind the ‘two-state solution’ to the long-running Israel-Palestine conflict.

Meanwhile, Mr Jaishankar is on an official visit to Malaysia, followed by his visits to Singapore and the Philippines.

Earlier in the day, he called on Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and expressed admiration for his vision aimed at fostering stronger ties between India and Malaysia. He also emphasised that this vision will serve as a catalyst for crafting a more ambitious agenda to advance the relationship between the two nations.

He also held a round-table meeting with CEOs in Malaysia and appreciated their growing interest in partnering with Indian industries.

“A productive round-table meeting with CEOs in Malaysia. Glad to hear about growing interest in partnering with Indian industries. Encouraged them to join in India’s growth story. Discussed geopolitical developments that can provide more opportunities in business interactions,” the EAM posted on X.

Raj Thackeray meets Amit Shah

New Delhi: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader Raj Thackeray met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday in an indication that the BJP is looking to ally with him for the Lok Sabha polls to boost its alliance in the western state.

Thackeray, who arrived here on Monday, was joined by BJP national general secretary Vinod Tawde when he met Shah.

If the alliance is sealed, the MNS may be given one seat to contest from Mumbai, the Maharashtra capital where his cousin Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena faction enjoys some influence.

Raj Thackeray had parted ways with the Shiv Sena, when it was undivided and led by his cousin. However, his MNS could not make much impact even though he is seen as a powerful orator and enjoys a certain following.

His controversial comments against north Indians in the past had drawn sharp criticism from leaders from various political parties, including the BJP.

Maharashtra Independent MP Navneet Rana Joins BJP

Maharashtra Independent MP Navneet Rana Joins BJP

Navneet Rana joined the BJP at the Bawankule’s residence in Nagpur along with her supporters.

Amravati:

Navneet Rana, an incumbent MP from Amravati, joined the BJP in Nagpur late on Wednesday night in the presence of the party’s state unit chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule.

She joined the BJP at the Bawankule’s residence in Nagpur along with her supporters and in the presence of senior party leaders from Amravati, Nagpur, Wardha and other places. Her husband Ravi Rana, an MLA, was also present when she joined the BJP.

The BJP’s Central Election Committee on Wednesday announced her name as the party’s candidate for the Amravati seat. Mr Bawankule said she would file her election nomination on April 4.

Addressing a press conference around midnight at Bawankule’s residence, Navneet Rana said that she followed the development path of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for the last five years as a supporter of the NDA.

Ms Rana expressed happiness over joining the BJP and said that she would ensure that the Amravati parliamentary constituency would be among the 400 seats that the party would win in the general elections.

Mr Bawankule said that Navneet Rana joined the BJP to support the Viksit Bharat vision of PM Modi. He also slammed Shiv Sena UBT chief Uddhav Thackeray for sending Navneet Rana to jail during his tenure as chief minister of Maharashtra over the issue of chanting Hanuman Chalisa.

Mr Rana first contested from Amravati on an NCP ticket in 2014 and was defeated by Shiv Sena’s Anandrao Adsul. In 2019, she contested the seat as an Independent supported by NCP and defeated Adsul.

However, after 2019, Rana started supporting the BJP.

Last month, The Supreme Court reserved its verdict on Navneet Rana’s plea challenging the Bombay High Court verdict cancelling her caste certificate. On June 8, 2021, the high court said the ‘Mochi’ caste certificate was obtained fraudulently using fabricated documents. It had also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on the Amravati MP.

"Waste Of Energy": Economist Sanjeev Sanyal On Multiple UPSC Attempts

'Waste Of Energy': Economist Sanjeev Sanyal On Multiple UPSC Attempts

Sanjeev Sanyal is currently a member of the Economic Advisory Council of the Prime Minister.

New Delhi:

Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) member Sanjeev Sanyal has said that 5-8 years of preparation for civil services examination by lakhs of students is a ‘waste of youthful energy’.

Mr Sanyal said one should only attempt UPSC or other such examinations if one wants to become an administrator.

“As mentioned, it (is) perfectly fine to attempt the UPSC or other such exams, but only if the person wants to be an administrator.

“The problem is that lakhs of people are spending 5-8 years repeatedly doing this exam as a ‘way of life’. This is such a waste of youthful energy,” he said in a series of posts on social media platform X.

Mr Sanyal further said it may come as a surprise, but his view is shared by most bureaucrats, who cleared the exam at some point.

“An attempt or two is fine for those who really want this path, but spending your entire 20s for it…is unhealthy,” he said.

The economist pointed out that an entire industry “indeed entire cities like Kota” is dedicated to taking an exam where less than 1 per cent of applicants will succeed.

“And this is (happening) every year. Imagine this huge effort being directed at other fields,” he said.

UPSC conducts the civil services examination every year in three stages – preliminary, mains and personality test (interview) – to select officers of Indian Administrative Service (IAS), the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and the Indian Police Service (IPS), among others.

Ireland 'to intervene' in South Africa's genocide case against Israel

Ireland says it is going to “intervene” in a genocide case that was initiated late last year by South Africa at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against the Israeli regime, over the latter’s months-long genocidal war on the Gaza Strip.

Irish Foreign Minister Micheál Martin made the announcement on Wednesday, saying the decision had followed analysis of legal and policy issues pertaining to the case, as well as consultation with South Africa, Irish online paper TheJournal.ie reported.

“That analysis and consultation has now concluded. Ireland will be intervening,” he said.

South Africa filed the lawsuit against Israel at the end of December, after nearly three months of Israeli aggression against Palestinians in Gaza.

Before filing the lawsuit, the country stated that the occupying regime had failed to uphold its commitments under the 1948 Genocide Convention.

In its interim ruling on January 26, the top UN court ruled that Pretoria’s claims were plausible, ordering provisional measures. The Hague-based court also said that the Israeli regime had to implement steps to prevent genocidal acts and allow humanitarian aid to flow into Gaza.

Martin did not say what form Dublin’s intervention would take or outline any argument the country planned to advance, but lashed out at Tel Aviv over its ongoing campaign of bloodletting in Gaza.

“…I want to be clear in reiterating what I have said many times in the last few months,” he said, adding, “What we are seeing in Gaza now, represents the blatant violation of international humanitarian law on a mass scale.”

He pointed to the withholding of aid, targeting of civilians and infrastructure, the “indiscriminate use of explosive weapons in populated areas” and the “collective punishment of an entire population.”

“The list goes on,” said Martin. “It has to stop. The view of the international community is clear. Enough is enough.”

Israel launched the war on the coastal sliver on October 7 after Palestinian resistance groups carried out a surprise retaliatory operation into the occupied territories.

Concomitantly with the war, the regime has been enforcing a near-total siege on Gaza, which has reduced the flow of foodstuffs, medicine, electricity, and water into the Palestinian territory into a trickle. Earlier this month, the United Nations warned that in the absence of any changes in the war, the coastal sliver was on course to experience all-out famine.

So far during the military onslaught, the regime has killed more than 32,000 Gazans, most of them women, children, and adolescents.

Congress Drops Leader As Poll Pick Amid Row Over Remarks On Kangana Ranaut

Supriya Shrinate triggered a massive row with an offensive post on Kangana Ranaut (File)

New Delhi:

The Congress today dropped Supriya Shrinate as a candidate from the constituency she contested in 2019, amid roaring outrage over her remarks on actor Kangana Ranaut, the BJP’s pick from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi.

Ms Shrinate had contested the last Lok Sabha polls from Maharajganj in Uttar Pradesh but lost to BJP’s Pankaj Chaudhary.

This time, Congress has named Virendra Chaudhary as its choice from the seat, dropping Ms Shrinate, caught in a massive political whirlpool over her post on Kangana Ranaut.

On Monday, an offensive post was put out from Ms Shrinate’s Instagram account with a picture of Ms Ranaut and a derogatory caption. Ms Shrinate promptly clarified that several people have access to her social media accounts, and one of them made the inappropriate post.

“As soon as I came to know, I deleted that post. Everyone who knows me, also knows very well that I can never make personal and indecent comments towards any woman. I wanted to know how this happened,” she said.

Earlier in the day, the Election Commission issued a show-cause notice to Ms Shrinate over her post.

The Congress announced its eighth list on Wednesday for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, naming 14 candidates for four states – Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, and Jharkhand. The party has announced 208 candidates so far.

The party has fielded Rao Yadvendra Singh against Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna and Pratap Bhanu Sharma against former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Vidisha. Tarvar Singh Lodhi has been nominated from Damoh.

In Jharkhand, it named Kalicharan Munda from the Khunti (ST), Sukhdeo Bhagat from Lohardaga (ST), and Jaiprakashbhai Patel from the Hazaribagh parliamentary constituencies.

In Telangana, the party fielded Suguna Kumari Chelimala from Adilabad, Tatiparthi Jeevan Reddy from Nizamabad, Neelam Madhu from Medak, and Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy from Bhongir.

In Uttar Pradesh, the Congress nominated Dolly Sharma from Ghaziabad, Nakul Dubey from Sitapur, Shivram Valmiki from Bulandshahr (SC) seat, and Virendra Chaudhary from Maharajganj.
