16-Year-Old Spit On, Beaten In Maharashtra Madrasa Over Rs 100 Watch Theft

16-Year-Old Spit On, Beaten In Maharashtra Madrasa Over Rs 100 Watch Theft

The minors who participated in the assault were later provided counseling.

Aurangabad:

A 16-year-old student was at the receiving end of brutal corporal punishment not just from his teacher but also from his peers at a Madrasa in Maharashtra. His crime – alleged theft of a Rs 100 watch.

The student, from Surat, was enrolled at the Jamia Burhanul Uloom Madrasa in Aurangabad, the city which was recently renamed Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar. The disturbing episode unfolded when the teenager allegedly stole an automatic watch from a nearby shop. The theft was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the area.

Upon discovering the theft, the shopkeeper promptly filed a complaint, leading to the recovery of the stolen item. However, the situation took a grim turn when the cleric at the Madrasa, identified as Maulana Syed Omar Ali, decided to administer what has been described as “brutal punishment” to the young student. Stripped half-naked, the teenager was subjected to spitting and a systematic beating by his fellow students, all allegedly under the orders of the cleric.

The incident was recorded on camera, and the footage eventually reached the victim’s family, who wasted no time in filing a complaint with the local police. A case was registered against the cleric and he was booked under the Minor Students Protection Act.

The minors who participated in the assault were later provided counseling, while legal proceedings are underway against the cleric.

Aaron Bushnell's death 'not in vain' as he spotlighted genocide in Palestine, friend says

A friend of Aaron Bushnell, the American soldier who set himself on fire in protest at Israel’s war on Gaza, says the self-immolated soldier did not die in vain as he brought the Israeli-American genocide in Palestine into the spotlight.

Speaking with Democracy Now, an independent American news program, Levi Pierpont said his views on wars and those of his friend evolved due to their military experiences.

“Over the years, both of us shifted, of course, in our beliefs regarding war, largely because of what we saw in the military, largely because of the things that we learned because we were a part of it,” Pierpont said on Wednesday.

“I want people to remember that his death is not in vain, that he died to spotlight this message,” he added.

He noted that he would have stopped Aaron from carrying out the self-immolation if he had known his intention, “But seeing the way that the media responds now, now that this has happened, it’s hard not to feel like he was right, that this was exactly what was necessary to get people’s attention about the genocide that’s happening in Palestine.”

Pierpont noted that he personally conscientiously objected and left the military last July and Bushnell also considered leaving back then, but decided not to follow the same path.

According to Pierpont’s remarks, the two found inspiration from social media content creators advocating for social justice movements in the US.

Pierpont expressed his deep sorrow over the death of Bushnell whom he met in Air Force basic training, saying he shed tears after learning the news about his friend setting himself on fire outside the embassy of the Israeli regime.

In a video, which was live-streamed on the social media platform Twitch on Sunday but was later removed, Bushnell, an active-duty member of the US Air Force, said “I will no longer be complicit in genocide.”

He was yelling “Free Palestine!” repeatedly, as he was going up in flames after setting himself on fire.

Protests against Israel have become a near-daily occurrence across the United States since the regime launched its bloody campaign in Gaza in early October.

Israel launched the war on Gaza on October 7 after the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas waged the surprise Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the occupying entity in response to the Israeli regime’s decades-long campaign of bloodletting and devastation against Palestinians.

Since the start of the offensive, the Tel Aviv regime has killed 30,035 Palestinians and injured 70,457 others.

Google cracks down on Play Store policy violations in India

Google cracks down on Play Store policy violations in India

New Delhi: Google on Friday said that after giving developers in India more than three years to prepare, including three weeks after the Supreme Court’s order, it is taking necessary “ensure our policies are applied consistently across the ecosystem, as we do for any form of policy violation globally”.

The company said in a blog post that enforcement of its policy, when necessary, can include removal of non-compliant apps from Google Play.

Developers are welcome to resubmit their apps to be listed on Play by electing any of the three billing options as part of the company’s payments policy.

One of the options is to operate on a consumption-only basis without paying a service fee, even if it is part of a paid service.

“With this option, any developer could allow a user of their app to access content that they paid for outside the app,” said Google.

The second option is to integrate Google Play’s billing system to transact with millions of customers around the world and give their users safe ways to pay and the ability to manage their payments from a central location.

The third option is to offer an alternative billing system alongside Google Play’s for users in India.

“When users opt for alternative billing systems, the fee is further reduced by an additional four per cent. App developers expanding in international markets can also enroll as part of our user choice billing pilot currently available in 35 markets,” Google explained.

In the meantime, “these developers continue to have other options to operate their business on Android, including distribution through alternative Android app stores or directly via their websites.”

“Existing users will be able to continue to access the apps without interruption — and we continue to offer our support to help developers get into compliance,” said the company.

The Android and Play ecosystem have collectively supported over 2.5 million jobs in India, said the company. In India, less than 60 developers on Google Play are subject to fees above 15 per cent, it added.

The company said it has over 200,000 Indian developers using Google Play who adhere to the policies.

The Supreme Court last month issued notice on a petition to Google India filed by tech startups, challenging Google Play Store’s billing policy as “exploitative”.

Supreme Court Orders Rape Convict Asaram To Approach High Court For Bail

Asaram was convicted of raping a Surat-based woman at an ashram in Gujarat in 2013

New Delhi:

The Supreme Court has ordered jailed rape convict Asaram to return to the Rajasthan High Court with his request on staying the sentence against him. The top court also ordered the high court to hear the matter.

Asaram’s lawyer also requested the Supreme Court to allow his client to take Ayurvedic treatment while in police custody in Maharashtra. The court then told the lawyer to take this request, too, to the Rajasthan High Court.

The Supreme Court in September 2023 denied bail to Asaram. Before that, the Rajasthan High Court had denied bail to him in 2022.

Asaram’s lawyer sought relief saying his client has been in jail for the past nine years, and he is over 80 years old, suffering from serious diseases.

A court in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur in April 2018 sentenced Asaram to life in prison after finding him guilty of raping a minor in his ashram in 2013. His two accomplices were sentenced to 20 years in jail by the court in the same case.

In January 2023, he was also convicted of raping a Surat-based woman at an ashram in Gujarat in 2013.

Iran decries West silence after Israeli attack on aid convoy

“More than 100 Palestinian citizens who were waiting in line to receive humanitarian aid on al-Rashid Street in Gaza were martyred, more than 800 people were injured due to the barbaric attack by the Zionist regime,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kan’ani wrote on X, according to Press TV.

“The wound of Gaza will not be erased from the memory of the free people of the world, and the shame of supporting and remaining silent towards the mass killing and genocide of Palestinians by the criminal Zionist regime will be evident on the foreheads of the false champions of human rights in the United States and  Europe.”

More than 100 Palestinian citizens who were waiting in line to receive humanitarian aid on Al Rashid Street in Gaza were martyred, more than 800 people were injured due to the barbaric attack by the Zionist Regime.

At least 104 Palestinians were killed and hundreds more wounded when Israeli forces fired on the people, the Palestinian health ministry said, calling the incident a “massacre”.

Residents of Gaza City had gathered seeking food, with the area completely cut off from aid by Israeli forces. NGOs and UN experts have voiced fears of famine in northern Gaza and there have been reports of people, including babies, dying of hunger.

The United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA described the food security situation as “extremely critical across Gaza, particularly in northern Gaza.”

According to the World Food Programme (WFP), no humanitarian group had been able to deliver aid to the north for more than a month. The agency accused Israel of blocking access.

The Gaza City shooting adds to a Palestinian death toll from the Israeli war which the health ministry earlier Thursday said had topped 30,000.

It came after mediators said a truce deal between Israel and Hamas could be just days away.

The board also sent a letter to the Zonal Commissioner of Khairatabad and enquired about the municipal, and construction and demolition waste being dumped in the lake.

Hyderabad: Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) issued show cause notices to Pooja Homes, and Ananda Homes for constructing buildings without necessary permissions and causing pollution at the Neknampur lake.

The board also sent a letter to the Zonal Commissioner of Khairatabad and enquired about the municipal, and construction and demolition waste being dumped in the lake.

The issue was first brought to light by one Srinivas Rohit of Dhruvansh NGO who submitted complaints to the TSPCB on February 8. The board swiftly conducted inspections and issued notices to all three parties the very next day.

Both the constructions were undertaken without necessary permissions from the pollution board and violated rules by dumping their construction waste into the lake.

China envoy in Geneva reiterates call for ceasefire in Gaza

As the Gaza Strip is facing an unparalleled humanitarian crisis, an immediate ceasefire is the urgent demand of the global community and a fundamental necessity for achieving peace, Chen said while elaborating on China’s position on the situation between Palestine and Israel at the 55th session of the UN Human Rights Council, Xinhua reported.

China is calling on Israel to allow humanitarian organizations to have the resources they need to conduct rescue missions in Gaza and to properly enforce the interim measures and directives from the International Court of Justice, Chen said.

Chen emphasized that China has always firmly supported the just cause of the Palestinian people to restore their legitimate national rights, and strongly opposed the forced transfer of the Palestinian people and the occupation of Palestinian territory.

The two-state solution is the general consensus of the international community and a realistic way to ultimately realize the peaceful coexistence of Palestine and Israel, Chen said, urging all countries to make unremitting efforts to this end.

Kids death toll from famine at Gaza hospitals rises to 10

The latest deaths were of four children at the Kamal Adwan Hospital, a ministry statement said.

On Wednesday, Ashraf Al-Qudra, the ministry spokesperson, said that four children died at the Kamal Adwan Hospital and two others at the Al-Shifa Medical Complex in recent days for the same reasons, Anadolu reported.

Al-Qudra called on international institutions to “immediately intervene to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe” in the northern Gaza Strip, which is besieged by Israeli forces.

“The international community is facing a moral and humanitarian test to stop the genocide committed by the Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip,” he added.

Hamas said the children’s deaths constitute an “international failure to protect humanity.”

On Feb. 19, UNICEF warned that the sharp rise in malnutrition among children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers in the Gaza Strip poses a “serious threat” to their health, especially with the ongoing war.

Israel has put 31 hospitals in Gaza out of service through bombing, destruction, and deprivation of medical supplies and fuel, and has partially targeted 152 health facilities, according to the Government Media Office in Gaza.

Israel has launched a deadly military offensive on the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7, 2023.

At least 30,035 Palestinians have since been killed and 70,457 others injured amid mass destruction and shortages of necessities.

Israel has also imposed a crippling blockade on the Gaza Strip, leaving its population, particularly residents of northern Gaza, on the verge of starvation.

The Israeli war has pushed 85% of Gaza’s population into internal displacement amid acute shortages of food, clean water, and medicine, while 60% of the enclave’s infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed, according to the UN.

Israel is accused of genocide by the International Court of Justice. An interim ruling in January ordered Tel Aviv to stop genocidal acts and take measures to guarantee that humanitarian assistance is provided to civilians in Gaza.
