The police after obtaining the CCTV footage of the suspected bomber — with backpack allegedly carrying a bomb — have launched a manhunt for the accused in Mangaluru city, neighbouring Kerala and in Tamil Nadu.

The footage shows the alleged bomber wearing a white cap, grey shirt and black pants, carrying a dish at the Rameshwaram cafe before the blast.

In another video, the accused bomber is seen walking hurriedly on the road towards the cafe with the backpack.

The police said that they will nab the accused soon.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will also chair a high-level meeting to discuss the security situation of the state.

On Friday, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said that the accused would be arrested in a few hours.

Karnataka State Police Chief Alok Mohan has said that central agencies the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Intelligence Bureau (IB) have been informed about the incident.

Sources said that the national agencies are assisting in the investigation.

'Panicky' Bayern Munich Held In Freiburg To Boost Leverkusen Title Hopes

Bayern Munich were held to a 2-2 draw at Freiburg on Friday, an 87th-minute equaliser from Lucas Hoeler giving leaders Bayer Leverkusen a chance to go 10 points clear. Mathys Tel’s 35th-minute stunner had cancelled out an impressive opener from Freiburg captain Christian Guenter, before Jamal Musiala‘s spectacular solo effort looked to have snared the three points for Bayern. Hoeler however had other ideas, chipping a volley through a crowded Bayern penalty area and past a helpless Manuel Neuer.

Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel criticised his players’ “body language and lack of bite” in the first half an hour, telling DAZN “we played completely without structure and had no discipline and weren’t in our positions.”

Calling his side “panicky”, Tuchel said: “We did things that we’ve never trained, that we’ve never spoken about.

“We played like it was the 85th minute and we were a goal down.”

Musiala told DAZN he felt “frustrated”.

“Since I’ve been at Bayern it’s been in my head that we must win and we hate to lose.  We want to win the Bundesliga, we want to win titles,” he said.

Bayern have now failed to win away from home in four matches dating back to January in both the Bundesliga and Champions League.

Tuchel’s side face Lazio at home in the last 16 of the Champions League on Tuesday, staring down an early exit with a 1-0 deficit from the first leg in Rome.

‘Simply instinct’

Xabi Alonso‘s unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen can go 10 points clear of the Bavarians with a win against lowly Cologne in their derby clash on Sunday as they chase a first-ever Bundesliga title.

“We played a good game” Freiburg’s Vincenzo Grifo told DAZN. “It’s clear that you have to suffer against Bayern.”

Guenter blasted the hosts into the lead after 12 minutes, unleashing a spinning rocket from outside the box and into the bottom right of the goal.

The goal was the Freiburg captain’s first of the season and the club’s only strike from outside the box this campaign.

Not content to allow Guenter to dominate the highlights reel, Tel hit back with a dream goal of his own, curling in a long-range effort on his second league start this season.

With 15 minutes remaining, and Bayern dominating possession but failing to carve out clear chances, Musiala dribbled past three Freiburg defenders and blasted a low shot into the right corner.

“Simply instinct” said Musiala of the goal. “You try and you dribble and see what you can create.”

Despite holding the lead Bayern grew passive, dropping deep to hold onto their slender lead.

With just three minutes of regular time remaining, Hoeler held off several Bayern defenders and chipped a volley over Neuer and into the goal.

The draw spoilt the first day at work for Bayern sporting director Max Eberl, who said during his unveiling this week the side would still push Leverkusen for the title.

The point sees Freiburg finish the night in ninth place in a crowded Bundesliga table, with only five points separating seventh and 15th places.

Experts Sound Alarm After 89-Year-Old UK Man Dies Of Vitamin D 'Overdose'

Experts recommend adults maintain a level of 30 to “guarantee sufficiency”. (Representative pic)

An 89-year-old man in the United Kingdom died from an “overdose” of Vitamin D supplements that did not warn about the risks of excessive intake. According to the New York Post, David Mitchener, a retired businessman, had high levels of Vitamin D when he was brought to the hospital last year in May. He was suffering from hypercalcaemia – a build-up of calcium in the body associated with taking too much Vitamin D. He died 10 days later.

Members of the local medical community are now taking the opportunity to warn the public of the risks of taking the common supplement. The incident has also prompted the Surrey assistant coroner to issue a report urging regulatory bodies to mandate clear warnings on supplement packaging about the dangers of overconsumption, the outlet reported.

“There was no warning on or in the packaging detailing the specific risks or side effects of taking Vitamin D supplements,” coroner Jonathan Stevens wrote in his official report. “In my opinion, there is a risk that future deaths will occur unless action is taken,” he added.

Mr Stevens also wrote to the Food Standards Agency and the Department of Health and Social Care urging them to ask supplement manufacturers to print warnings on packaging.

In his report, he warned that vitamin supplements “can have potentially very serious risks and side effects when taken in excess”. He added that the “current food labelling requirements do not require these risks and side effects to be written on the packaging”.

Notably, the 89-year-old is said to have shown the highest possible recorded levels of Vitamin D in his body, as per the Post. His post-mortem report revealed that his Vitamin D levels were 380, which is the “maximum level recorded by the laboratory”.

Medical experts recommend adults maintain a level of 30 to “guarantee sufficiency”. In terms of dosage, 600 international units (IUs) is the recommended amount for most adults. Taking more than the recommended amount can cause overdosage, as per Mayo Clinic.

David Mitchener first presented at the hospital with hypercalcemia or high amounts of calcium in his body. This is typically induced by high levels of Vitamin D. However, the excess supplement wasn’t the only cause of death listed as the coroner also blamed congestive heart failure, chronic kidney failure, hypercalcemia, and Ischaemic Heart Disease. However, due to the high concentrations of vitamin D found, the coroner warned that “Vitamin supplements can have potentially very serious risks and side effects when taken in excess”.

9,000 women killed in Gaza since October 2023: UN

9,000 women killed in Gaza since October 2023: UN

New York: The UN has said that an estimated 9,000 women have been reportedly killed by Israeli forces in Gaza in the last five months of the war.

Every day the war in Gaza continues, at the current rate, an average of 63 women will continue to be killed.

An estimated 37 mothers are killed every day, leaving their families devastated and their children with diminished protection.

More than four out of five women (84 per cent) report that their family eats half or less of the food they used to before the war began, with mothers and adult women being those tasked with sourcing food, yet eating last, less, and least than everyone else.

Four in five women (84 per cent) in Gaza indicate that at least one of their family members had to skip meals during the past week. In 95 per cent of those cases, mothers are the ones going without food, skipping at least one meal to feed their children.

Gaza’s entire population of 2.3 million people will be facing acute levels of food insecurity within weeks — the highest ever recorded as Gaza is on the verge of starvation.

Nearly nine in 10 women (87 per cent) report finding it harder to access food than men. Some women are now resorting to extreme coping mechanisms, such as scavenging for food under rubble or in dumpsters.

Ten out of 12 women’s organisations surveyed in Gaza reported being partly operational, providing essential emergency response services. Despite their extraordinary efforts, less than one per cent of funding raised through the 2023 Flash Appeal has gone to national or local women’s rights organisations.

Channelling funding to these organisations is crucial to meet the overwhelming needs of women and their families and communities, and to ensure that the voices of Gazan women do not go unheard.

Unless there is an immediate humanitarian ceasefire, many more will die in the coming days and weeks. The killing, bombing, and destruction of essential infrastructure in Gaza must stop. Humanitarian aid must get into and across Gaza immediately.

Gautam Gambhir Urges BJP Chief To Relieve Him From Political Duties

In a surprising turn of events, Bharatiya Janata Party MP Gautam Gambhir has announced his decision to step away from active politics. The former cricketer, who represented East Delhi, took to Twitter to share the news with his followers and supporters. He expressed his desire to focus on his cricket commitments, citing the need to redirect his attention to the sport he passionately played before entering politics.

“I have requested Hon’ble Party President JP Nadda ji to relieve me of my political duties so that I can focus on my upcoming cricket commitments. I sincerely thank Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi for giving me the opportunity to serve the people. Jai Hind,” Mr Gambhir wrote.

Gambhir, had joined the BJP in March 2019 and since then has become a prominent face of the party in Delhi. He contested and won the East Delhi seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections by a substantial margin of 6,95,109 votes.

The decision to quit politics comes amid reports that Mr Gambhir may not get a ticket for the upcoming 2024 polls.

The BJP is expected to release a first list of candidates – over 100 names, which will include heavyweights like Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah – for the 2024 Lok Sabha election soon. The party held marathon overnight meetings in Delhi, including one led by the Prime Minister at his Delhi residence that began 11 pm Thursday and finished at 4 am Friday.
