BRS working president and former Minister KT Rama Rao
Hyderabad: BRS working president and former Minister KT Rama Rao on Saturday welcomed the Central government’s green signal for construction of elevated corridors on the Hyderabad-Karimnagar Rajiv Rahadari and the Hyderabad-Nagpur National Highway.
He said the clearance accorded for the elevated corridors was the culmination of relentless efforts put in by the BRS government for the last 10 years. Thanking the Centre on behalf of the people of the State, he recalled that the BRS government had represented on the issue to the Prime Minister and other union ministers on multiple occasions.
He reminded that this was the third victory achieved by the BRS. Even in the cabinet meeting held on July 31 last year, the BRS government had taken a decision in favour of the elevated corridors and accordingly the Centre had given the go ahead. He recalled that earlier, the Ministry of Defence had considered allotment of 33 acres of land in its possession for the elevated corridors project and now it had come forward to hand over another 150 acres, thus clearing all obstacles for taking up construction of the skyways proposed by the BRS government.
Due to the presence of defence lands in the two routes, the expansion of roads could not be taken up and people had experienced traffic issues for a long time. Ever since BRS came to power in 2014, it came out with an ambitious programme for construction of elevated corridors on the two routes. Consultations were made multiple occasions with the agencies concerned to convince the Centre.
He said former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had made representations on this issue every time he visited Delhi. He too was part of the mission along with the party MPs and the union government too responded positively. The plans prepared by the State government for the construction of elevated flyovers were sent to the Central government and the process has been expedited by clarifying from time to time the queries raised by them.
Rama Rao also thanked officials who were part of the mission during the BRS rule. Persistent efforts were made to convince the Centre and and they finally paid off. He asserted that this could not be achieved by any one person. It was a collective effort met with rewarding success.
Rama Rao said the State government should now speed up the process for construction of the flyovers from JBS to Shamirpet and Paradise Junction to Kandlakoya as the Centre had cleared them finally.

A United Nations team says “a large number” of Palestinian civilians seeking food aid have been shot in the Gaza Strip after Israeli military forces opened fire on an aid convoy in the besieged territory.
According to UN chief Antonio Guterres’s spokesman, the UN team visited some of the wounded from the incident at Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza Cityon Friday, where they saw a “large number of gunshot wounds.”
The hospital received 70 of the dead, and around 200 wounded were still there during the team’s visit, Stephane Dujarric said, adding that from what the team saw “in terms of the patients who were alive getting treatments is that there was a large number of gunshot wounds.”
Hossam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, also said all the casualties it admitted were hit by “bullets and shrapnel” from Israeli occupation forces.
Daniel Hagari, spokesman for the Israeli military, claimed that the regime’s troops had fired “a few warning shots” to try to disperse a “mob” that had “ambushed” the aid trucks.
The military spokesman went on to say that a “stampede” occurred when thousands of Gazans surrounded the aid convoy, leading to dozens of deaths and injuries, including some who were run over.
On Thursday, at least 115 people were killed and more than 750 others wounded as the Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinians who had surrounded a convoy of 38 aid trucks in Gaza.
The incident drew widespread condemnation, with the chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, accusing Israel of “the mass killing of Palestinians” seeking aid.
In a statement on X, the African Union said Mahamat strongly condemns the deadly Israeli attack, urging an international probe into the incident.
The latest Israeli crime comes as NGOs and UN experts have on several occasions voiced fears of famine in the besieged territory, which has been completely cut off from aid by the occupation since October last year.
Gaza’s Health Ministry has noted that thousands of people in north Gaza “are at risk of dying from dehydration and malnutrition.”
The ministry also reported on Friday that a total of 10 children had died of “malnutrition and dehydration”.
Jens Laerke, spokesman for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), has noted that “a famine is almost inevitable” in Gaza unless things change.
The International Rescue Committee has also called for a “sustained ceasefire” and for land crossings into Gaza to be reopened to aid shipments.
Israel waged its genocidal war on Gaza on October 7 after the Palestinian Hamas resistance group carried out Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the usurping entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.
Since the start of the offensive, the Tel Aviv regime has killed 30,320 Palestinians, mostly women and children.
The Tel Aviv regime has also imposed a “complete siege” on the territory, cutting off fuel, electricity, food, and water to the more than two million Palestinians living there.
Shreyas Iyer, the talented batter from Mumbai, is in the line of fire after the BCCI fired him, and his Indian cricket teammate Ishan Kishan, from the annual contracts. Shreyas Iyer was part of the national team till very recently in the first two Tests against England. However, he was dropped for the last three Tests after a run of poor scores. Later, he skipped a Ranji Trophy match for Mumbai as he claimed he was having a back issue. However, a report in The Indian Express, said the NCA gave a contradictory fitness report on him.
During this time, several media publications have claimed, Shreyas Iyer attended a pre-IPL camp with Kolkata Knight Riders. This seems to have irked the BCCI selectors, who recommend players’ name for central contracts.
According to a report in Revsportz, Iyer went to the KKR Academy to build his workload. “After playing 60 balls in a session, his back was building spasms. He had to build up his resistance. Now he is playing 200 balls per session. In three weeks, he has put on three kilos of muscles. The Mumbai Cricket Association and the Mumbai team head coach (Omkar Salvi) have been kept in the loop. In fact, the Mumbai coach visited the KKR Academy several times to monitor Iyer’s progress. And now he has made himself available for the Ranji Trophy semi-final against Tamil Nadu,” the person said on conditions on anonymity.
“He skipped the IPL to play the World Cup. Even after the surgery, he took three painkiller injections to be pain-free for the World Cup. And yet, the pain returned during the semi-final and the final, and he played through it. Iyer was the only player who wasn’t given a break after the World Cup. He played the home T20I series against Australia and then went to South Africa. After returning from South Africa, he was asked to play a Ranji game in January, ahead of the first two Tests against England. He did that. Doesn’t a player have the liberty to train under a coach of his choice?”
Former Indian cricket team pacer Madan Lal, who was part of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, has praised the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for terminating star duo Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer’s central contracts. While the BCCI didn’t reveal the reason behind the decision to axe Kishan and Iyer, reports have claimed that the board was not happy with the players after both decided to skip domestic games for their state teams, despite being cleared fit by the NCA. Lal lauded BCCI over the polarising move, saying that playing domestic cricket should be made compulsory for those who prioritise IPL over First Class matches.
“If the BCCI told them to play first-class cricket, they should have gone and played. No one is bigger than the game. The BCCI should be given the credit as they are making it mandatory to play first-class cricket. Most of the players nowadays are taking First-class cricket for granted because of the IPL. Definitely, the BCCI made a rule that every player should go and play First-class cricket. So if you don’t follow the rules, then they have to take some action and set an example for others,” Lal told Times of India.

The scientists are uncertain about the driving factors behind this behaviour.
A lone killer whale was captured on film hunting and killing a great white shark off the coast of South Africa. The extraordinary footage has left scientists in awe, shedding light on the remarkable predatory skills of killer whales.
Shark biologist Dr Alison Towner, from Rhodes University in Grahamstown, South Africa, was surprised at the solitary and swift attack, claiming it “caught us off guard”, according to BBC. The male killer whale executed the attack and ate the shark’s liver in under two minutes.
Watch here:
Previously, “It took two killer whales to team up to hunt sharks off the South African coast. This solo incident brings a new aspect to our understanding,” Dr Towner said.
He revealed, “During the attacks, the sharks would tightly circle the killer whales, in a desperate attempt to avoid predation.”
Dr Luke Rendell, a marine mammal scientist from the University of St Andrews, described the recent attack as “a really beautiful observation” of behaviour, highlighting the skill demonstrated by the lone killer whale in tackling the great white shark.
“A great white shark is a nice, big concentration of food, so it’s perhaps unsurprising that some populations [of killer whales], where these sharks occur in sufficient numbers, have learned to exploit that,” he added.
The scientists are uncertain about the driving factors behind this behaviour but, Dr Towner pointed to the increasing influence of human activities such as climate change and industrial fishing on the oceans. There are also potential health repercussions for killer whales eating sharks, including, the ingestion of toxins and metals from shark flesh.
Dr Towner talked about the broader ecological implications, noting that disruptions in the balance of apex predators could affect other species.
“Endangered African penguins could face increased predation by cape fur seals [if the fur seals are not being eaten by] white sharks,” she said.
Although it is unclear whether this behaviour is observed for the first time, researchers emphasise the significance of every discovery in understanding the interactions between orcas and sharks, describing them as “fascinating.” Dr Towner concluded, “But what stands out is how skillful these animals are as hunters.”
