Hyderabadi ‘Haleem’ now available across India with an extended shelf life of a month

Hyderabad: If you’re not from Hyderabad and have heard of Haleem during the Ramadan season, you no longer have to miss out. Pista House, renowned for its Haleem in the city, has started shipping out its bestselling dish across India, all with a shelf life of one month.

Traditionally, relishing the Ramadan favourite Haleem beyond Hyderabad’s borders proved challenging, with spoilage often hindering delivery attempts. Sometimes people used to fly down from other cities, only to relish the season’s Haleem. However, people outside can now enjoy fresh and flavourful Haleem from the comfort of their homes.

“We have achieved this extended shelf life through retort packaging, a method that involves intense heat treatment to eliminate any bacteria, ensuring the Haleem remains fresh for a month,” said Mohammed Abdul Mohsi, Owner of Pista House, Hyderabad.

Retort packaging is a process of packing perishable food items without using any preservatives. These food items are packed in retort pouches that contain cooked or semi-cooked food items, they are later sealed and sterilized with the help of heat and pressure. This also eliminates the need for refrigeration, which will allow people across the country to relish their favourite dish without any compromise.

“We do not use any added preservatives or any chemicals to increase the shelf life, it is all the change in packaging that extends the shelf life to a month, while before Haleem would only last for a day,” he added.

The making and shipping process of the dish is done at Pista House’s Attapur Kitchen, where cutting-edge machinery facilitates the retorting process.

“We get around 400 to 500 orders per day for Haleem across India and there is a great demand mainly from Mumbai, Delhi, and Chennai as well,” he said.

In addition to nationwide shipping, Pista House has launched Haleem Hot Pots for gifting purposes this Ramadan. These are a premium gift pack for haleems allowing people to share the dish among their loved ones.

"Arvind Kejriwal's Time Limited, Madam Prepping For Post": Minister's Attack

New Delhi:

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri today took a swipe at jailed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal as someone who has “very limited time”, alluding to the end of his chief ministership.

Mr Puri said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief’s wife, Sunita Kejriwal, is likely preparing to take the top post soon. “Kejriwal’s wife was not only a colleague in the revenue service. They have sidelined everyone. Now madam is likely preparing for the top post,” the Housing and Urban Affairs Minister told reporters in Delhi today.

“The madam is perhaps preparing to hold the post like how Rabri Devi did in Bihar,” Mr Puri added, referring to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Yadav’s wife who became Chief Minister after he was jailed in many corruption cases.

“Kejriwal didn’t answer summons nine times. Then the Enforcement Directorate officers went to his house. Let it be, Kejriwal’s time is very limited,” said Mr Puri, who is also the Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister.

Mr Kejriwal has been arrested over alleged money laundering in framing the now-scrapped Delhi liquor policy case. His custody with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) was extended by four days yesterday.

The Union Minister also criticised the Congress for protesting over legitimate tax demand. “Everyone has to file tax returns. Their revenue has only been increasing,” he said.

The Congress received a Rs 1,700 crore notice from the Income Tax Department, a day after the Delhi High Court dismissed the party’s petition challenging the tax notices. The fresh notice is for assessment years 2017-18 to 2020-21, and includes penalty and interest.

Referring to a planned protest by the Opposition INDIA bloc on March 31, Mr Puri said, “Their time is over. Talk about them in the past tense.”

While Mr Kejriwal is in the ED custody, his wife Sunita Kejriwal today made her third video announcement on his behalf, announcing a “Kejriwal ko aashirwad” campaign. She shared a WhatsApp number and asked people to send messages for Mr Kejriwal.

Sunita Kejriwal is a former Indian Revenue Services (IRS) officer, who served in the Income Tax department for 22 years. She met Arvind Kejriwal during a training programme in Bhopal. She is from the 1994 batch, while her husband is from the 1995 batch.

Kohli Stares At Gambhir Ahead Of IPL Game. KKR Posts Photo That 'Hit Hard'

The Kolkata Knight Riders vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru clash in the IPL 2024 on Friday has a separate sub plot. The Kolkata Knight Riders are being mentored by Gautam Gambhir while Virat Kohli is one of the batting mainstays of RCB. The two share quite a bit of history. The last time the duo faced each other at the IPL 2023, it made for one of the lasting images in Indian cricket. Last year, Gambhir was associated with Lucknow Super Giants and after a match against RCB, had a heated on-field argument with Virat Kohli.

Both of them were heavily fined after that incident. That was not the first on-field altercation between the two. Now, with the duo again coming face to face in a cricket match, KKR couldn’t help but post two interesting photos. KKR posted the photos, with the caption: “Cricket images that hit hard.” In one of the photos, Kohli can be seen towards the direction of  Gambhir.

In a chat with Star Sports ahead of the Knight Riders vs Royal Challengers match, India star pacer Varun Aaron said that he is eagerly looking forward to the match-up outside the boundary rope, hinting at the Kohli vs Gambhir duel.

“I don’t want to stir anything but I’m looking forward to the match-up outside the boundary line. Gautam Gambhir is going to be there right beside the Bengaluru dug-out, I don’t know what’s going to happen there. We know Virat likes to have fire in his belly and if he just looks at the Kolkata dug-out, he’s going to get fired up,” said Aaron.

Gambhir and Kohli famously clashed during an RCB vs Lucknow Super Giants match in IPL 2023. Kohli initially locked horns with LSG’s Naveen-ul-Haq before Gambhir went into the ground and had a verbal war with the former.

On the chaotic episode, Gambhir had said last year: “It is not about Naveen-ul-Haq. I would have defended any player, that is my job, that is how I am. Why should I not defend my players just because someone has a broadcaster working for him, left right and centre, someone who has more social media presence doesn’t have any right to walk over someone.”

UN 'deeply disturbed' after Israeli strike kills medics in south Lebanon

The United Nations says it is “deeply disturbed” by attacks on healthcare facilities, a day after Israeli warplanes bombed southern Lebanon killing 10 emergency rescue workers.

“The tragic events of the past 36 hours have resulted in a significant loss of life and injuries in south Lebanon. Up to 11 civilians were killed in a single day, including 10 paramedics,” said Imran Riza, the UN’s humanitarian coordinator for Lebanon.

He was referring to an Israeli airstrike on Wednesday that targeted an emergency and relief center in the southern village of Habbariyeh.

“I am deeply disturbed by the repeated attacks on health facilities and health workers who risk their lives to provide urgent assistance to their local communities,” Riza said.

“Attacks on health care violate international humanitarian law and are unacceptable,” the UN official said in a statement.

The Israeli regime has been launching airstrikes against Lebanon since the beginning of its onslaught on the Gaza Strip in early October.

Israel’s raids have resulted in retaliatory strikes from Hezbollah in support of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

Hezbollah launched a barrage of at least 30 retaliatory rockets at an Israeli military barracks in the northern part of the 1948 Israeli-occupied territories in response to the Habbariyeh airstrike.

Lebanon’s al-Manar television said the group struck the outpost inside Kiryat Shmona city with dozens of projectiles on Wednesday morning.

The rockets struck the Command Center of the Israeli military’s 769th Brigade in the Kiryat Shmona Barracks, it said.

At least 322 people, including 56 civilians, have been killed by Israeli missiles on the Lebanese border.

Israel says at least ten of its troopers and seven settlers have been killed in the area.

Hezbollah has already fought off two Israeli wars against Lebanon in 2000 and 2006. The resistance forced the regime to retreat in both conflicts.

Israel attack on Aleppo clear violation of international laws

Nasser Kan’ani strongly condemned the Zionist regime airstrikes on areas in Syria’s Aleppo province last night which resulted in the martyrdom of some Syrian military forces and civilians.

Expressing condolences to the government and people of Syria, especially the families of the martyrs and victims of the airstrikes, he emphasized that these attacks are a clear violation of international laws and regulations, as well as a violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and a serious threat to regional and international peace and security.

He noted that the international community and the United Nations Security Council must take deterrent measures and hold the aggressor Zionist regime accountable.

These attacks are coordinated with the attacks of the terrorist groups in Syria against the regions of this country which is clear proof of the support of the terrorist regime of Israel to the terrorist groups in Syria which have targeted the national security of the Arab country and the security of the region for many years, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson stated.

Referring to the defeat of the occupying Zionist regime in the Gaza Strip, Kan’ani said that aggressive attacks on Syria are a desperate attempt to continue and expand the crisis in the region to restore the failed image of this regime in front of the Palestinian nation and Resistance groups, adding that confronting this dangerous actions that violate the security and stability of the region is an international and global responsibility.

"Can't Score Runs From Dugout": Experts Rip Into DC For India Star's Snub

Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody stated that wicketkeeper-batter Prithvi Shaw’s omission from the Delhi Capitals’ (DC) playing XI “doesn’t make sense” and suggested that DC should select 24-year-old batter for their upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 matches. Moody pointed out that, while Shaw has been unimpressive in recent seasons, selecting him over Bhui is a more plausible option given his international cricket experience. “It doesn’t make sense due to the fact that you’ve got an Indian international player (Prithvi Shaw) in the dugout. Yes, he hasn’t performed in the IPL like we had all hoped he would, but you can’t score runs from the dugout,” speaking to ESPNcricinfo Moody stated.

Shaw was benched for Delhi’s first two games this season. Ricky Bhui, a domestic cricket star, has not capitalised on his opportunities, scoring 3 and 0 against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), respectively.

Wasim Jaffer expressed surprise that Delhi did not play Shaw despite keeping him for the IPL 2024 mini-auction. In response to the swashbuckling opener’s omission from DC’s opening two encounters, Jaffer said, “Now that they have held onto him and not let him go into the auction, I’m surprised they’re not playing him. He’s played for Mumbai for most of the season, so you’d imagine that he’s fit. I’m surprised. Punishing him and then losing the games is not the way to go forward.”

Shaw came under fire for a spate of subpar performances in the IPL 2023. He finished with 106 runs from eight innings, an average of 13.25.

Ricky Bhui was caught behind for a duck in Thursday’s match against Rajasthan. Nandre Burger struck out the right-handed batter with a crisp bouncer.

Moody commented on the dismissal, stating that it highlighted the disparity between domestic cricket and the IPL.

“That’s exactly what you’d like to see a genuine quick bowler to do. And to do it to a top-order player is even more alarming. What it does also is highlight the jump between Ranji Trophy runs to international cricket and IPL,” he added.

Rishabh Pant-led side will be desperate to open their account in IPL 2024 when they take on reigning champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday.
