Yemeni army says hit 6 ships in 72 hours in Gulf of Aden, Red Sea

The Yemeni army says it has carried out military operations against six ships in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea, including two US destroyers, over the past 72 hours.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the army’s spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Saree said the Yemeni naval forces had conducted the operations “with a large number of ballistic missiles and drones.”

According to the statement, the Yemeni army struck Maersk Saratoga, APL Detroit, Huang Pu and Pretty Lady after identifying them as either owned by the US or Britain.

Saree said the army also launched a drone attack against two US destroyers in the Red Sea as well as Israel’s Eilat Port.

The military operations, the spokesman said, were “successful.”

The Yemeni Armed Forces have been targeting Israeli vessels or those “associated” with the occupying regime in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea since October 7, 2023.

The regime ignited its bloody war machine in the besieged Palestinian territory on that October day in response to Operation Al-Aqsa Storm conducted by the resistance movement Hamas.

The maritime attacks have forced some of the world’s biggest shipping and oil companies to suspend transit through one of the world’s most important maritime trade routes.

Tankers are instead adding thousands of miles to international shipping routes by sailing around the continent of Africa rather than going through the Suez Canal.

The pro-Palestine maritime campaign has also prompted airstrikes by the US and its allies on Yemen – in violation of the Yemeni sovereignty and international law.

In consequence, Yemen’s armed forces have declared US and British vessels as legitimate targets.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Saree vowed that the Yemenis would continue their pro-Palestinian operations as long as the Israeli regime continued the hostilities and a siege it has been enforcing against Gaza.

Since the start of the brutal campaign in Gaza, the regime has killed more than 32,300 Palestinians and injured over 74,000 others. It has cut off fuel, electricity, food and water to the more than two million Palestinians living there.

Khammam LS ticket: BJP picks newbie, dilemma continues in Congress

Khammam: Ending suspense over the BJP candidate for Khammam Lok Sabha, the party leadership has finally fielded a political novice Tandra Vinod Rao, who belongs to Velama community, for the seat. It might be noted that there was an intense race for the BJP ticket as nearly half a dozen leaders contested for the ticket.

Former MLA Jalagam Venkat Rao had also joined the race for the party ticket, after joining the saffron party on March 10 in the presence of Telangana BJP in-charge Tarun Chugh.

The party district presidents, Galla Satyanarayana of Khammam, KV Ranga Kiran of Kothagudem, BJP’s Kisan Morcha state president Kondapalli Sridhar Reddy, a noted doctor Dr Gongura Venkateswara Rao and others had also lobbied for the ticket through their channels, but in vain.

The old timers have opposed nominating a newcomer for the Lok Sabha seat. They also took the matter to the party national general secretary Bandi Sanjay Kumar sometime back urging him to look into it and ensure ticket to a senior leader in the party.

Vinod Rao, a businessman turned politician was associated with RSS for nearly one decade. The RSS leadership has reportedly thrown its weight around in ensuring the ticket to him.

He has been touring Assembly segments in Khammam parliament constituency for the last few months. Vinod Rao’s family hails from Timmapet village of Mulakalapalli mandal in Kothagudem district.

His grandfather T Sudharshan Rao served as a trustee of Bhadradri Temple in the past and his father T Krishna Rao worked as a lawyer at Paloncha.

According to sources in the BJP those who expected the ticket and the cadres were said to be upset at the party leadership’s choice. In view of such discontent in the party, whether Vinod Rao could garner the cadres and leaders support in the electioneering was a big question.

Meanwhile, the dilemma was continuing in Congress over picking up a candidate for the Khammam Lok Sabha seat.

The party remained undecided even as Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka’s wife Mallu Nandini and minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy’s brother P Prasad Reddy’s followers have been running a campaign on social media claiming that the ticket would be given to their respective leaders.

Both the ticket aspirants have also been touring the constituency for the past several weeks meeting their followers and cadres in Khammam and Kothagudem districts. Their tours were looking like an election campaign even though the ticket was not allotted to anyone.

Pakistan Needs Another IMF Loan For Stability, Says PM Shehbaz Sharif

Shehbaz Sharif said along with the IMF program, the government will focus on fostering growth.

Islamabad:

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Tuesday that Pakistan needs another loan programme from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to stabilise its fragile economy, ARY News reported.

PM Sharif said this while addressing a ceremony to encourage taxpayers in the country in Islamabad.

The prime minister said the government is compelled to enter into a new IMF deal for the purpose of stability, ARY News reported.

However, he said that along with the IMF program, the government will focus on fostering growth, creating job opportunities, and addressing the issue of inflation.

Shehbaz Sharif said the federal government in collaboration with the provincial governments will create enabling circumstances for the private sector and address their problems. He said that refunds to the tune of sixty-five billion rupees have been made to the exporters, expressing the determination that in future the refunds will be made in a timely manner. He said we will also go towards providing electricity to the industries on competitive rates in order to enhance their productivity.

He said the platform of Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) has been established to give impetus to the investment. He said the second phase of CPEC will be taken forward.

As regards tax reforms, the Prime Minister said the FBR will be totally restructured. He said consultants will be hired next month for complete digitalization of the tax collection body. Referring to low tax to GDP ratio, he said we will have to enhance the tax base.

The Prime Minister stated that the leading taxpayers and exporters are the heroes of this country. He announced that the recipients of today’s awards, consisting of exporters and taxpayers, will be issued blue passports, ARY News reported.

The comments came after the IMF agreed to a staff-level agreement with Islamabad which, if approved by its board, would disburse the last tranche of USD 1.1 billion under an existing USD 3 billion standby arrangement.

Notably, the IMF mission that visited Islamabad for five days on the last review of the stand-by programme said Pakistani authorities expressed interest in yet another bailout.

The stand-by arrangement expires on April 11.

Ahead of the stand-by arrangement, Pakistan had to meet IMF conditions including revising its budget, and raising interest rates, as well as generating revenue through more taxes and hiking electricity and gas prices, ARY News reported.

The International Monetary Fund confirmed that Pakistan was seeking a 24th medium-term bailout package for a permanent push towards longstanding structural reforms, reported Dawn.

The IMF confirmed this while announcing the staff-level agreement on the successful completion of the existing short-term facility.

The IMF, in its end-of-mission statement, said that subject to the approval of its executive board, the staff-level agreement would enable Pakistan to access about USD 1.1 billion–828 million special drawing rights (SDR) – by late April.

'No Place For Such Language': Congress On Leader's Kangana Ranaut Remarks

Supriya Shrinate said many people have access to her Facebook and Instagram accounts

New Delhi:

Amid the row over controversial remarks on Kangana Ranaut posted on party leader Supriya Shrinate’s social media handle, the Congress on Tuesday said it has always believed there is no place for such language in public discourse and the matter should end with Ms Shrinate clearing the air.

Ms Shrinate has already clarified that someone who has access to her account made the post, Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit said at a press conference.

“She has said she will find out who has done it,” Mr Dikshit said.

“No place for such language in public discourse, the Congress has always been clear in that. Supriya ji has said whoever has done it, it’s a mistake. She has explained and the matter should end there,” he added.

The Congress has been in the crosshairs after demeaning remarks on Ms Ranaut and Mandi were posted on the social media handles of its leaders Shrinate and H S Ahir.

Congress spokesperson Ms Shrinate said in her defence on Monday, when the controversy erupted, that many people have access to her Facebook and Instagram accounts and one of them made the inappropriate post. She also said she had deleted the post and will take action against a parody account that is using her name.

Revanth changes tone, attacks Modi questioning his contribution to Telangana

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy speaking after opening the second level flyover at Bairamalguda on Saturday.

Hyderabad: After facing a severe backlash from different sections for calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi his big brother, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy switched gears on Tuesday, attacking Modi questioning his contribution to Telangana’s development.

The Chief Minister alleged that the Prime Minister had failed in completing the Pranahita Chevella irrigation project. He sanctioned a bullet train to Gujarat but had not approved a MMTS train to Vikarabad.

The Sabarmati River Front was developed in Gujarat but funds were not sanctioned for River Musi Front development, the Chief Minister said while addressing party leaders at the Chevella parliament constituency meeting here.

“Why is the BJP creating hurdles for the Regional Ring Road project in the State?” Revanth Reddy asked.

Exuding confidence that Congress would win 14 of the 17 seats in the State, the Chief Minister said delivering social justice was possible only with the Congress party.

The party high command would declare candidates for the constituencies only after considering the views and opinions at field level and based on the survey reports, he said.

Stating that Chevella, Secunderabad and Medchal Malkajgiri constituencies were interlinked, the Chief Minister said considering different factors, the candidatures of Ranjith Reddy from Chevella, Sunitha Mahender Reddy from Malkajgiri and Danam Nagender from Secunderabad were finalized. “

The Congress government’s 100 days ruling is a referendum for the Lok Sabha elections in the State,” Revanth Reddy said, adding that the Congress would commence the Lok Sabha elections campaign from Tukkuguda, Ranga Reddy district. “On April 6 or 7, the national level guarantees will be announced from Tukkuguda.

AICC Chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi will be attending the public meeting,” Revanth Reddy added.

To go as box report Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy faced a few embarrassing moments when party leaders objected the entry of turncoats into the Congress.

During the Chevella parliamentary constituency meeting, party senior leader K Laxma Reddy found fault with the party leadership for opening gates to facilitate entry of leaders who had “cheated” the Congress in the past.

“Entry of turncoats into the party will sound a death knell for loyal leaders and workers,” Laxma Reddy told the Chief Minister. Chevella candidate G Ranjith Reddy also participated in the meeting.
