New Delhi: Legendary Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton is set to leave Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team in 2025 to join Scuderia Ferrari, according to Sky Sports.

According to a report from Sky Sports, the British Grand Prix driver will replace Carlos Sainz in Ferrari, whose contract will end in 2025.

Recently, Hamilton signed a two-year contract with Mercedes which was supposed to end after the 2025 season, however, the seven-time world champion will likely leave in 2024 to replace Sainz in Ferarri.

In the 2023 season, the 39-year-old had a sloppy run with Mercedes and failed to win a single race. However, he ended the last season in third place with 234 points. Only Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez were ahead of the British driver in the standings.

On the other hand, Ferarri and Mercedes fought hard to get hold of the second spot in the 2023 constructor standings, however, Hamilton’s current side won by a difference of 2 points. Mercedes had 409, while, Ferrari had 406 points by their name.

In 2023, Red Bull won the Constructor championship with 860 points.

The British driver has failed to get a top place on the podium of a race since December 2023. The 39-year-old arrived at Mercedes in 2013 after leaving McLaren and won six world titles with the team.

Hamilton is considered the most successful driver in F1 history, with seven world championships, 103 race victories, 104 pole positions, 197 podium finishes, and over 4,600 points.

The upcoming 2024 F1 season is to begin on March 2, with the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Meanwhile, Mirzayev described the three ominous phenomena of terrorism, extremism and separatism as ‘the biggest threats to the world.’

SC asks Gyanvapi Mosque committee to approach Allahabad HC against order to allow puja

Gyanvapi Mosque

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday asked the Masjid Intezamia Committee of Gyanwapi mosque of Varanasi to approach Allahabad High Court against the Varanasi District Court’s order which allowed Hindus to perform prayers of deities inside the southern celler of Gyanvapi mosque.

Lawyers representing the Masjid Committee moved the Supreme Court Registrar requesting for urgent hearing of its application seeking status quo at the mosque site.

The lawyers said the Registrar conveyed to them that Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud had asked them to approach the High Court.

The Mosque committee filed an urgent application seeking status quo at the mosque site contending that the administration was acting in ‘hot haste’ soon after the Varanasi Court’s order to perform the “Puja” at night.

The application said that these actions, occurring in the middle of the night, aimed to preempt any legal challenge by the mosque managing committee.

On January 31, the Varanasi district court allowed the Hindu side to offer prayers in the southern cellar of Gyanvapi mosque. The court directed the Varanasi district magistrate to make arrangements within seven days for “puja” to be performed by the Hindu side and a poojari nominated by Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust.

After the order of the court, “puja” and “aarti” were performed in the early hours.

The district court has issued the order on the plea of the head priest of Acharya Ved Vyas Peeth temple, Shailendra Kumar Pathak Vyas, seeking worship of Shringar Gauri and other visible, and invisible deities in the cellar of the mosque. Vyas is the scion of the family which was performing “puja” in this cellar till December 1993.

The plea says Vyas’s maternal grandfather, priest Somnath Vyas, used to perform prayers there till 1993 when the cellar was closed by the authorities.

The ASI survey, ordered by the same court, in connection with a related case, suggested that the mosque was constructed during Aurangzeb’s rule over the remains of a Hindu temple.

Frankfurt, Germany:

Germany’s biggest lender Deutsche Bank on Thursday announced plans to slash 3,500 jobs as part of a major cost-cutting drive after its net profit fell in 2023.

The group reported a net profit attributable to shareholders of 4.2 billion euros ($4.5 billion), a 16-percent drop on the year before when profits were boosted by a one-off tax benefit.

Costs related to the company’s savings and efficiency programme also weighed on net profit, with Deutsche spending 566 million euros on restructuring and severance expenses.

Revenues, however, jumped six percent year-on-year to 28.9 billion euros thanks to the European Central Bank’s higher interest rates.

Chief executive Christian Sewing praised the bank’s performance in “an uncertain environment” and highlighted that Deutsche had achieved a pre-tax profit of nearly 5.7 billion euros, the highest “in 16 years”.

The group also “maintained our focus on cost discipline”, he said, as Deutsche presses ahead with a 2.5-billion-euro efficiency push aimed at improving profitability.

As part of those efforts, Deutsche said it plans to cut around 3,500 jobs over the next two years, “mainly in non-client-facing areas”.

The bank employed around 85,000 people globally in 2022.

Deutsche also unveiled new targets for 2025, saying it would aim to achieve revenues of 32 billion euros and operate with total costs of around 20 billion euros.

For 2023, the group will propose shareholder dividends of 0.45 euros per share, a 50-percent increase on 2022.
