"Kohli Told Camerapersons To…": India's Intriguing Practice For 2nd Test

The first Test of 2024 for the Indian cricket team is a do-or-die one. Against South Africa in Cape Town, the Rohit Sharma-led side needs a win to draw the series. after an embarrassing loss by an innings and 32 runs, the Indian cricket team has its task cut out for the second Test. There will be much intrigue surrounding India’s playing XI too. Many experts have predicted that there will be two changes in the XI. Ravichandran Ashwin may make way for Ravindra Jadeja while Mukesh Kumar may replace Prasidh Krishna.

The practice session before Test was interesting two with Virat Kohli showing great intent.

“Many players came around 9:30 AM. Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill started the proceeding. Virat Kohli and Shubman Gil played six balls each on the centre wickets. In front of them were Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin. They played for around half an hour. They face bowling of specific lengths.” Rohan Deshmukh, who covered the practice session for Star Sports, said in a video on Monday.

“It was a good practice. They then went to the nets. There also they batter for 20 minutes. Virat Kohli was focused. Unhone aas paas jitne bhi camerapersons then unko side me kiya (He told the camerapersons to move to a side). He wanted a practice with intent.”

Deshmukh also said that the Indian bowlers were asked to bowl at a particular length. “Approximately 6-8m length was used. All pace bowlers were asked to bowl at that length. Bumrah, Siraj bowled for half an hour. All the deliveries were bowled with that length. even when Ashwin bowled, his delivery dropped at one end of the markers. It looks like a focucssed approach,” he said.

Former Indian cricket team captain Sunil Gavaskar predicted two changes that might take place in India’s playing XI.

“My Playing XI would be not too many changes. Ravindra Jadeja, once he is fit, will probably walk back into the team at the expense of Ravichandran Ashwin. That’s what it is looking to be because Ravichandran Ashwin was hardly used in the previous game. There could be a change in the new ball bowling too with Mukhesh Kumar coming in place of Prasidh Krishna,” Sunil Gavaskar told Star Sports.

Team India’s humiliating 3-day loss in the first Test against South Africa sent shockwaves across the cricketing spectrum. Multiple greats of the game and pundits questioned the team’s preapredness for the tour, with the legendary Sunil Gavaskar highlighting the absence of practice matches as one of the biggest reasons behind the result embarrasing result. Gavaskar even called India’s intra-squad matches a ‘joke’ as he lambasted Rohit Sharma and the team management’s decision to not play First Class practice matches before the start of the 2-match

Hyderabad: A fascinating custom has gained momentum among women in Telangana, especially in Hyderabad, as the festive fervor for Sankranti approaches.

Videos have gone viral depicting a peculiar practice wherein mothers with only one or a sole son, are seen adorning bangles on both hands, supposedly after receiving money from mothers with two sons. The belief underlying this aims to avert misfortune and bestow good luck upon the only sons.

This tradition has led to a surge in women flocking to bangle stores, causing a significant spike in demand. “The trend has gained traction with women sharing their experiences on social media. Many others are embracing it for the well-being and prosperity of their sons,” said a woman, highlighting the widespread adoption of the custom.

“In our culture, following traditions that bring about positivity and well-being is important. This custom might seem unconventional, but there’s no harm in following it if it brings blessings for our loved ones,” said Rajyalakshmi from Santoshnagar.

Makar Sankranti, a significant festival celebrated across various regions of India, holds great cultural importance. Set to be observed on January 14, it marks the onset of the Uttarayan period. Devotees pay homage to the Sun God, offering prayers and gratitude during Makar Sankranti. Additionally, worshippers also revere Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi, emphasizing the day’s spiritual significance.

Several other women echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the emotional value attached to customs and traditions. “It’s a way to honor our culture and heritage. If it brings blessings to our family, then why not embrace it?” said Usha from Bholakpur.

Bangle store owners confirmed the surge in demand, attributing it to this newfound practice that has captivated the attention of many women ahead of the forthcoming festival.

Russian forces receives new artillery reconnaissance system

Using advanced sensors, communication systems, and data processing capabilities, the system enables artillery commanders to quickly and accurately identify enemy positions, Sputnik reports.

Russian troops in the special military operation are using the new Yastreb-AV artillery reconnaissance system as part of counter-battery combat, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

The new 1K148 Yastreb-AV has been put into service with Russian artillery units in the special military operation zone.

Together with the Zoopark-1M complex, Yastreb-AV provides detection of Ukrainian artillery firing positions. At the same time, the characteristics of the new complex are superior.

“Today, the effective performance of combat tasks by missile operators and artillerymen, together with the use of UAVs, which increases the effectiveness of artillery fire and survivability on the battlefield, is also ensured by the use of modern artillery reconnaissance equipment such as Zoopark-1M and Yastreb-AV,” the ministry said in a statement.

US stuck in ‘costly quagmire’ in Gaza, signaling Hamas over post-war era: Iran

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has said that by backing the Israeli regime in its “genocidal” war against the Gaza Strip the US politicians are caught in a “quagmire” in the besieged territory, which will be costly for them to exit.

In a speech at the University of Tehran on Monday Amir-Abdollahian said the US is “facing a challenge” and is looking for a “face-saving option” to exit the situation in Gaza.

“Today the politicians in the White House are facing a serious challenge. Some believe that Washington has gone too far and should not have provided full support for Israel’s genocide and crimes over the past three months in Gaza and the West Bank,” he said.

“Today, the fact that American politicians have made a mistake and entered a quagmire in Gaza represents a challenge in the White House,” he added. “Getting out of this quagmire will be quite costly.”

According to Amir-Abdollahian, the Israeli regime followed its dreams of “destroying Hamas” but they did come true.

“They announced that they would disarm Hamas through military, air, ground, and sea operations, but that did not happen,” he said, adding, “They said they will continue the offensive in tunnels and hospitals’ basements in Gaza to release Israeli captives, but they suffered a defeat and could not free one captive.”

He added that Israelis have “reached a dead-end” and on the same day that they were talking about “eradicating Hamas” they were sending messages to third countries to indirectly discuss captive-prisoner exchanges and ways to rule post-war Gaza.

“It indicates that the resistance is following the right path and has snatched another major victory in the past 80 days,” he added.

Amir-Abdollahian said the cross-border Operation Al-Aqsa Strom launched on October 7 was a “political and intelligence defeat” for Israel and now Hamas’s 80 days of resistance and response to Israel’s genocide and US support have inflicted a “military and psychological” defeat on the Israeli regime.

He warned that Israel’s partners have only two options: either continue the war and remain stuck in the quagmire and face an “embarrassing defeat”, or agree to a “political solution” by fulfilling the resistance front conditions.

Hospitals Can't Admit Patients In ICU If They Or Family Refuse: New Rules

Hospitals Can't Admit Patients In ICU If They Or Family Refuse: New Guidelines

Hospitals cannot admit critically ill patients in the ICU in case of refusal by them and relatives

New Delhi:

Hospitals cannot admit critically ill patients in the intensive care unit in case of refusal by them and their relatives, the Union Health Ministry has said in its recent guidelines on ICU admissions.

The guidelines compiled by 24 experts further recommended that when no further treatment is possible or available in a disease or in terminally ill patients if the continuation of therapy is not going make an impact on the outcome, especially survival, then keeping in ICU is futile care.

Further, anyone with a living will or advanced directive against ICU care should not be admitted to ICU.

Besides, low priority criteria in case of pandemic or disaster situation, where there is resource limitation, should be taken into account for keeping a patient in the ICU.

Criteria for admitting a patient to ICU should be based on organ failure and need for organ support or in anticipation of deterioration in the medical condition, the guidelines stated.

Altered level of consciousness of recent onset, hemodynamic instability, need for respiratory support, patients with acute illness requiring intensive monitoring and/or organ support or any medical condition or disease with anticipation of deterioration have been listed as criteria for ICU admission.

Patients who have experienced any major intraoperative complication like cardiovascular or respiratory instability or have undergone major surgery also feature among the criteria.

“The following critically ill patients should not be admitted to ICU — patient’s or next of kin’s informed refusal to be admitted in ICU, any disease with a treatment limitation plan, anyone with a living will or advanced directive against ICU care, terminally ill patients with a medical judgement of futility and low priority criteria in case of pandemic or disaster situation where there is resource limitation (e.g. bed, workforce, equipment),” the guidelines stated.

Return of physiological aberrations to near normal or baseline statu, reasonable resolution and stability of the acute illness that necessitated ICU admission, patient/family agreeing for ICU discharge for a treatment-limiting decision or palliative care have been mentioned in the ICU discharge criteria.

According to the guidelines, blood pressure, pulse rate, respiratory rate, breathing pattern, heart rate, oxygen saturation, urine output and neurological status among other parameters should be monitored in a patient awaiting an ICU bed.

Indictment reveals MKO had links to French spy agency

At the beginning of the fourth session of the trial of the recently detained MKO terror group members, chaired by judge Dehqani in the 11th branch of the criminal court of Tehran province, the prosecutor’s representative said that before reading the indictment, some pieces of information would be read out to enlighten the public opinion.

He pointed out that documents have revealed the MKO’s ringleader Masoud Rajavi’s connection with France and the role of the French intelligence service in the explosion at the headquarters of the Islamic Republican Party (IRP) in Tehran in June 1981.

After the armed action of the terrorist group earlier in June 1981, Rajavi and several members of the MKO discussed whether they should declare that the group had entered the military phase and finally decided to make that announcement, he said.

Afterward, he continued, Rajavi proposed to blow up the office of the IRP and the group decided to make preparations for the move.

Then Rajavi traveled to France, and the bombing operation occurred after his trip, he further explained, adding that Abrishamchi, Bani Sadr, Rajavi and several others then hijacked a plane to flee from Iran to France.

The high-profile trial of the ringleaders and members of the MKO kicked off in Tehran on December 12.

According to the criminal court, some 104 members of the terrorist group as well as the MKO group are sued in the trial for committing inhumane crimes.

The MKO has carried out numerous terrorist attacks in Iran against ordinary people and officials since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, killing thousands of people. Some estimates suggest that the terrorist group has killed over 17,000 people in Iran.
