A 40-year-old man allegedly killed his 35-year-old wife and injured his elder brother over a property dispute in suburban Malad in Mumbai, police said on Saturday.

The accused, identified as Dreson Dasa, is on the run and five teams have been formed to nab him, an official said.

The crime came to light on Friday afternoon when the wife of the injured man, Damian Dasa, returned home from the market.

The complainant woman found her husband Damian Dasa and Chitra Dasa lying in a pool of blood, following which they were rushed to hospitals after informing the police, the official said.

Damian was found alive but Chitra was declared dead by doctors, he said.

The senior national championships for wrestling will be held from February 2 to 5 in Jaipur, the ad-hoc committee governing the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) said on Saturday. Competitions will be held for top honours in senior free style, Greco Roman and the women’s section, the Bhupinder Singh Bajwa-led committee said in a press release. The release also stated that “all correspondence should be done with ad-hoc panel”, making it clear that no stakeholder should be in touch with members of the suspended federation.

The tournament will be organised by Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) at Railway Stadium in Ganpati Nagar.

Earlier, a three-member ad-hoc committee was formed by the Indian Olympic Association to oversee the WFI after the newly-elected body was suspended by the sports ministry for violating its own constitution.

Last Sunday, the wrestling body was suspended for not making decisions in accordance with the provisions of its constitution.

In order to manage the day-to-day operations of the WFI, the IOA designated Wushu federation chief Bajwa as the committee’s head. The other members of the panel are 1998 Commonwealth Games badminton medallist Manjusha Kanwar and 1980 Olympic gold medallist hockey player MM Somaya.

After Sanjay Singh, a close aide of former WFI boss Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, was elected as the president of the national wrestling body on December 24, he declared that the nationals for the Under-15 and Under-20 age groups would be held in the Nandini Nagar region of the Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh before the year ended.

The region is a stronghold of BJP MP Brij Bhushan.

The ministry claimed that the wrestlers who were going to compete in the national championships were not given enough notice and that the announcement was made in a hurry and without taking into confidence secretary general Prem Chand Lochab.

12-Year-Old Charged For Tossing Glass Bottles From 32nd Floor Of US Hotel

Two children in New York, a 12-year-old and an 11-year-old girl, threw glass bottles of alcohol from the 32nd floor of a hotel near Times Square and injured a woman below. According to the New York Post, the incident took place on Friday and it led to temporarily shutting down the street. The two children were staying with their guardians at the InterContinental New York Times Square hotel. While the 12-year-old was charged with reckless endangerment as a juvenile, the 11-year-old was not charged because of her age, the outlet reported.

Citing police sources, the Post reported that loud bangs of the glass smashing into the street caused a brief panic as some mistook them for gunfire. “I can understand why people thought it was gunshots. When something falls 32 stories and hits the ground it will make a loud noise,” a law enforcement officer said.

The two kids tossed glass shooters of booze from the 32nd-floor window. Hotel workers reportedly said that the bottles came crashing from the sky on the Eighth Avenue side of the hotel in front of Shake Shack. On the street, a 24-year-old was injured. She suffered a cut to her head, police said. Following the incident, the woman was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.

“It sounded like an explosion or gunshots,” one passerby told an officer. “Throwing a bottle from the 34th floor, you could literally kill somebody,” said another man, who narrowly missed being hit by a bottle. He went on to describe the bottle-throwing idea as “insane” and said that the cops arrested what looked like three kids and two adults.

According to several street vendors, the children apparently felt inspired by Hizzoner’s ceremonial confetti toss and started throwing glass bottles. “NYPD had the entire area shut down for over an hour,” a parking attendant working at a lot across the street from the hotel told the publication. He added that customers at the lot were unable to leave the parking area due to the bottle-tossing incident.

Separately, an employee working at a nearby eatery said that he “thought someone was trying to jump out of the window” and that workers were forced to shelter in place for over three hours. “I thought it was a suicide. Everyone was looking up as I was walking into work,” another person at Sugar Factory said.

Mumbai:

A man wanted in a murder case has been arrested after 31 years by Mumbai Police from Nalasopara in neighbouring Palghar district, an official said on Saturday.

The accused, identified as Deepak Bhise, is accused of killing one Raju Chikna in 1989 and of a murder bid on Dharmendra Saroj.

Bhise was granted bail in 1992 but he never turned up for a hearing of the case in court. In the year 2003, the court declared him absconding, the official said.

“Whenever police visited Bhise’s residential address at Tulaskarwadi in suburban Kandivali, local people would tell us he might have died but we kept looking for him,” the official said.

During the search, police managed to get the mobile phone number of Bhise’s wife and tracked him down in Nalasopara from where he was arrested on Friday night, he said, adding that Bhise settled in the locality with his family members and used to take contracts for cutting trees.

“The accused, who is 62 years old now, has been arrested. Further investigation is underway,” said Kandivali police station sub-inspector Nitin Satam.

Rights group: Israeli forces systematically steal, loot Palestinians' belongings in Gaza

A human rights group says in addition to killing thousands of civilians in the Gaza Strip, Israeli forces have been also conducting systematic theft of Palestinians’ homes across the besieged territory, looting their property.

The Geneva-based Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor announced the information in a report, citing testimonies that it had obtained from aggrieved Palestinians.

“According to testimonies gathered by Euro-Med Monitor, the Israeli army’s crimes extend beyond arbitrary detentions, enforced disappearances, and field executions. They also involve the intentional destruction of property, the theft of personal belongings, and the looting and burning of homes—all part of a systematic strategy that is evidently based on collective punishment of the Palestinian people,” the rights group said.

It added that Israeli soldiers participate in and witness the deliberate theft of the assets and money of Palestinian civilians, including laptop computers, gold, and large quantities of cash.

“Preliminary estimates suggest that the Israeli army may have looted valuable possessions worth tens of millions of dollars, in addition to stealing personal belongings from Palestinian civilians,” Euro-Med’s reported said.

Thabet Salim, one of the Palestinians cited by the rights body, said Israeli troops had raided his house in the south of Gaza City, abducting him and his two sons. Israeli forces, Salim added, then stole all of the gold and cash that was at hand at his residence.

“The amount of money the soldiers took from my house is worth more than 10,000 US dollars, plus nearly the same amount of gold from my wife, and the wife of my eldest son,” Salim said.

Umm Muhammad Gharbiyya, a Palestinian woman, also told Euro-Med Monitor that Israeli forces had forcibly taken away her gold jewelry after violently breaking into her family’s house earlier this month.

The testimonies have been verified by many videos circulated across the social media showing Israeli forces taking away Palestinians’ belonging, looting their properties, and trying to sell their stolen possessions.

Euro-Med Monitor concluded its report by calling for “a comprehensive and impartial international investigation …. into the grave Israeli violations against the residents of the Gaza Strip and their property, and for the international community to take urgent measures to ensure that Israel is held legally accountable.”

Israel launched its genocidal war on Gaza on October 7 following an operation by the territory’s resistance movements, dubbed Operation al-Aqsa Storm. The historic operation came in response to the regime’s decades-long violence against Palestinians.

Since the start of its military aggression, the Israeli regime has killed at least 21,672 Palestinians, mostly women and children, while injuring over 56,000 others.

US Urges Appeals Court To Reject Trump's Immunity Claim In 2020 Election Case

US Urges Appeals Court To Reject Trump's Immunity Claim In 2020 Election Case

Smith said creating such a legal shield would place presidents above the law.

Washington:

U.S. prosecutors on Saturday urged a federal appeals court to reject former President Donald Trump’s claim that he cannot face criminal charges for seeking to overturn his defeat in the 2020 election.

Special Counsel Jack Smith, who is overseeing the prosecution, argued in a court filing that nothing in the U.S. Constitution or American legal tradition supports giving former presidents “absolute immunity” from criminal charges for action taken while in office.

Smith said creating such a legal shield would place presidents above the law.

Trump has claimed that the presidency is “cloaked with absolute immunity” from prosecution, Smith said. “He is wrong.”

Smith argued that the separation of powers mandated by the constitution and legal precedent make clear that a former president can be charged for crimes he committed while in the White House “including, most critically here, illegal acts to remain in power despite losing an election.”

Trump, the frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, is appealing a lower court ruling denying his bid to dismiss the election charges based on his claim of immunity. His lawyers argued in a Dec. 23 filing that allowing Trump to be charged for conduct related to his official responsibilities would undermine the presidency.

A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit is scheduled to hold arguments on the matter on Jan. 9.

Trump, president from 2017-2021, has pleaded not guilty to charges that he defrauded the United States, obstructed Congress and violated the civil rights of voters through schemes to overturn his loss to Democrat Joe Biden. The case is one of four criminal prosecutions Trump faces and one of two that relate to his alleged efforts to subvert the 2020 election.

Trump, frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination, has accused prosecutors of a politically motivated effort to damage his campaign for the Nov. 5, 2024 election. State-by-state contests to select a nominee begin on Jan. 15.

The timing of the court’s decision is seen as crucial to whether Trump will stand trial beginning in March as scheduled. Progress in the case has been halted while the immunity appeal remains pending.

Smith earlier this month asked the U.S. Supreme Court to bypass the lower appeals court and immediately decide the issue, in an attempt to stave off Trump’s attempt at delay.

The Supreme Court denied the request, leaving the issue for now with the D.C. Circuit court.

Dhoni's Dubai Vacation Photos Viral. Sakshi, Kriti Sanon Can't Be Missed

All Indian cricket fans, especially Chennai Super Kings supporters, are eagerly waiting for MS Dhoni‘s return on the field. The former Indian cricket team captain now only plays in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and last year he led the CSK to their fifth IPL title. Next year, CSK would be hoping for a sixth title and MS Dhoni will be crucial to their plans. He underwent a knee surgery earlier this year. With the CSK picking up good players like Daryl Mitchell from the IPL auction, expectations are high from the team.

Ahead oft he New Year, images have gone viral on social media where Dhoni can be seen with wife Sakshi Dhoni and others. Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon and Nupur Sanon are also present. Several social media users have said that the former India captain is on a vacation to Dubai. NDTV can’t independently ascertain when and where the phots were taken.

Apart from his cricket records, MS Dhoni’s style statement is also followed a lot. His recent hairstyle has been quite a rage among the fans and he opened up on it.

“Earlier when I used to go for ad films, I usually got ready in 20 minutes hair, makeup everything. Now it takes 1 hour, 5 minutes- 1 hour, 10 minutes. It’s bit boring, just sitting on that chair and waiting, but all my fans have appreciated by hairstyle. So, I’ll try to keep it for some time,” MS Dhoni said.

“I agree with you (as the crowd started applauding) but it’s quite a task to maintain this. I’ll try to keep it but maybe one fine day I might decide to chop it off.”

While Chennai Super Kings (CSK) MS Dhoni will be a part of the tournament in 2024 as well, the fans still wonder whether he would be continuing his stint even after the end of the upcoming season. Keeping the curiosity intact among the fans, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said that only Dhoni could say if it is going to be his last edition.

“That I do not know. See, as far as the captain is concerned, he will answer you directly. He does not tell us what he is going to do,” Viswanathan said as quoted by The Indian Express.

Dhoni went through a knee surgery in early June this year. Currently, the player is going through rehab and he is expected to be match-fit well ahead of IPL 2024.

“He is doing well now. He has started his rehab. He started working in the gym. And, probably in another 10 days he’ll start working in the nets also,” said Viswanathan.

San Francisco: After Android, Microsoft has launched its AI-powered Copilot app for Apple iOS and iPadOS users.

Both versions of the Copilot app (formerly Bing chat) are now available to download from the Apple App Store.

The app works similarly to OpenAI’s ChatGPT mobile app. “Improve your productivity with Copilot your AI-powered chat assistant. Copilot is a pioneering chat assistant from Microsoft powered by the latest OpenAI models, GPT-4 and DALL-E 3,” according to the app description.

Unlike the free version of ChatGPT which runs GPT-3.5, Copilot lets you access GPT-4, the latest large language model (LLM) from OpenAI, for free.

The Copilot app on iOS allows access to chatbot capabilities, image generation through DALL-E 3, and the ability to draft text for emails and documents.

“These advanced AI technologies provide fast, complex, and precise responses, as well as the ability to create breathtaking visuals from simple text descriptions. Chat and create all in one place for free,” according to Microsoft.

The tech giant recently rebranded Bing Chat to Copilot. The tech giant has also partnered with Suno, a leader in AI-based music creation, to bring their capabilities to Copilot.

Earlier this month, the company announced a number of new features which will be added to its Copilot service soon, including OpenAI’s latest models.

Netanyahu Says War With Gaza Will Continue For "Many More Months"

Netanyahu Says War With Gaza Will Continue For 'Many More Months'

Israel has said it intends to destroy Hamas in Gaza and demilitarise and deradicalise the territory.

Jerusalem:

The border zone between the Gaza Strip and Egypt should be under Israel’s control, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Saturday as he predicted the war in the Palestinian enclave and on other regional fronts would last many more months.

Netanyahu held a news conference as Israel entered the 13th week of its war against Gaza’s ruling Hamas Islamists, which has stoked violence in the occupied West Bank and touched off attacks by Iran-backed groups in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Yemen.

“The Philadelphi Corridor – or to put it more correctly, the southern stoppage point (of Gaza) – must be in our hands. It must be shut. It is clear that any other arrangement would not ensure the demilitarisation that we seek,” he said.

Israel has said it intends to destroy Hamas in Gaza and demilitarise and deradicalise the territory in order to prevent any repeat of the Oct. 7 cross-border killing and kidnapping spree by the Palestinians militant group that sparked the war.

“The war is at its height. We are fighting on all of the fronts. Achieving victory will require time. As the (IDF) chief of staff has said, the war will continue for many more months,” Netanyahu said.

He added a rare threat to attack Iran directly over the near-daily exchanges of fire across the Israel-Lebanon border. “If Hezbollah expands the warfare, it will suffer blows that it has not dreamed of – and so too Iran,” Netanyahu said without elaborating.
