Umpires "Thrown Out Of Ground" In Big American Premier League Controversy

The American Premier League (APL) has been marred by controversy after the owner and umpires got involved in a feud regarding the alleged due of payment. As claimed by the umpires, they were not paid their due amount of 30 thousand Dollars. On the other hand, APL has claimed that the umpires demanded the owner for 30 thousand dollar despite getting a down payment and blackmailed to stop the semi-finals. The organiser added that cops were called on the spot and the umpires were “thrown out of the ground”.

“The Umpires were paid a down payment and they held the semifinal hostage and blackmailed the owner in shelling out 30k or else no match. Danny Khan, Vijaya, Brian Owens were told that they cannot black mail and hold the semi hostage as an umpire but these greedy umpires didn’t budge at which point they were asked to leave so the match goes on and they refused and held the match hostage at which point cops called,” wrote APL through its X account.

“And these greedy umpires were thrown out of the ground. An umpire should never hold a match hostage especially when they know it’s the playoffs and blackmail the league owner into submission,” it added.

Meanwhile, renowned journalist Peter Della Penna also shared the statement of the other party.

“I am Vijaya Prakash Mallela, one of the ICC Panel Umpire from the USA. It was a pleasure working with the teams for the last 10 days. Sorry, this has to end this way with umpires not getting paid about $30,000.00 balance, after paying our own expenses. Police were called on us when we demanded the payment towards our services and expenses. We had no choice, but leave. Good luck to all of you in your future endeavours,” was written in the screenshot shared by Penna.

Hyderabad: In an effort to tighten his grip over the party in the State before the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, State BJP president G Kishan Reddy is reportedly planning to replace a majority of the party’s district presidents and appoint his men on those posts.

According to sources, Kishan Reddy was planning to change at least 50 percent of the district presidents and replace them with his loyalists. During the assembly polls, Kishan Reddy faced a lot of problems with the district presidents and senior leaders. It is learnt that Kishan Reddy has identified district presidents who have not worked hard for the victory of the party candidates and those who worked against the party.

He has reportedly started the exercise of selecting the candidates for the district president’s posts and as part of that initiative, he met several leaders on Saturday and discussed replacing the current district presidents. Sources said Kishan Reddy did not want to take a chance by continuing the present district presidents in the posts as that would affect the performance of the party in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

The move to replace district presidents is being seen as a strategic move by Kishan Reddy to have total control over the party. The ongoing difference among the leaders cost the party heavily during the assembly polls. In fact, the party leadership was forced to replace Bandi Sanjay with Kishan Reddy following several leaders complaining against him.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah too had expressed displeasure over the ongoing squabbles among senior leaders and warned that he would take stringent action against those involved in anti-party activities.

The party won four seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls and this time it is planning to win over ten seats. The BJP’s vote share more than doubled from 6.10 percent in 2018 to 14.02 percent in the assembly elections held in November and it is aiming to net more than 25 percent in vote share in the upcoming general elections.

The saffron party has prepared a 90-day election action plan for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections for Telangana and asked the State leaders to take up outreach programmes on a massive scale.

Meanwhile, the BJP State Disciplinary Committee has issued show-cause notices to those who worked against the party in the assembly elections and neglected to perform their duties properly. It is learnt that about three district presidents and 10 State-level leaders were served the notices for anti-party activities during the assembly polls.

China’s economy has become ‘more resilient and dynamic than before’, says President Xi

China’s economy has become ‘more resilient and dynamic than before’, says President Xi

Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Sunday that China‘s economy has become “more resilient and dynamic than before” as he vowed to consolidate and strengthen the momentum of economic recovery and work to achieve long-term economic development.

“We have gone through the test of winds and rains, have seen beautiful scenes unfolding on the way, and have made plenty of real achievements. We will remember this year as one of hard work and perseverance. Going forward, we have full confidence in the future,” Xi said in his 2024 New Year message.

Xi said that as China achieved a smooth transition in COVID-19 response efforts, its economy has sustained the momentum of recovery, and steady progress has been made in pursuing high-quality development in the outgoing year, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

“Having weathered the storm, the Chinese economy is more resilient and dynamic than before,” he said.

Xi said that while pursuing its development, China has also embraced the world and fulfilled its responsibility as a major country.

Noting that next year will mark the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, he said his government will steadfastly advance Chinese modernization, fully and faithfully apply the new development philosophy on all fronts, speed up building the new development paradigm, promote high-quality development, and both pursue development and safeguard security.

“We will consolidate and strengthen the momentum of economic recovery, and work to achieve steady and long-term economic development,” the president said.

He also said that China will continue to support Hong Kong and Macao in harnessing their distinctive strengths. “China will surely be reunified, and all Chinese on both sides of the Taiwan Strait should be bound by a common sense of purpose and share in the glory of the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation,” he added.

China views Taiwan as a breakaway province. Beijing has not ruled out the possible use of force to reunify the self-ruled island with the mainland.

Underling that conflicts are still raging in some parts of the world, Xi said China will work closely with the international community for the common good of humanity, build a community with a shared future for mankind, and make the world a better place for all.

Top Iran, UK diplomats discuss Red Sea developments

“I spoke to @Amirabdolahian today about Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, which threaten innocent lives and the global economy. I made clear that Iran shares responsibility for preventing these attacks given their long-standing support to the Houthis,” Cameron wrote on his X account.

Earlier the British Secretary of State for Defence had alleged Iran of supporting the Yemeni armed forces and tried to link Iran with the recent developments in the Red Sea that occurred after the Gaza war.

Following the escalation of tensions in the Gaza Strip, the Yemeni armed forces announced that they would carry out attacks against the Zionist regime until the aggression against Gaza is stopped, and they will not allow any Israeli ships to travel in the waters of the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.

Claims against Iran’s role regarding the actions of the Yemeni armed forces come as the Resistance groups in the region act completely independently based on their own decision about the security of their countries or to support the oppressed Palestinian nation.

Another Ship Attacked In Red Sea, US Choppers Sink 3 Houthi Boats

The attacks are endangering a transit route that carries up to 12 per cent of global trade

New Delhi:

US Navy helicopters sank three vessels operated by Yemen’s Iran-backed Huthi rebels that had attacked a container ship in the Red Sea, the military said Sunday.

After the Huthis fired on the US helicopters, they “returned fire in self-defense”, sinking three of four small boats that had come within 20 meters of the ship, and killing the crews, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement.

“The fourth boat fled the area,” it added.

CENTCOM said the navy responded to a request for assistance from the Maersk Hangzhou, a Singapore-flagged, Denmark-owned and operated container ship that reported coming under attack for a second time in 24 hours while transiting the Red Sea.

The vessel had earlier been targeted with two anti-ship ballistic missiles that the US military shot down.

One of the missiles, both launched from Huthi-controlled Yemen, hit the Maersk Hangzhou.

The Huthis have repeatedly targeted vessels in the vital Red Sea shipping lane with strikes they say are in support of Palestinians in Gaza, where Israel is battling Hamas group.

The attacks are endangering a transit route that carries up to 12 percent of global trade, prompting the United States to set up a multinational naval task force this month to protect Red Sea shipping.

The latest round of the Israel-Hamas conflict began when the Palestinian Hamas group carried out a shock cross-border attack from Gaza on October 7 that killed about 1,140 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on Israeli figures.

The United States rushed military aid to support Israel, which has carried out a relentless campaign in Gaza that has killed at least 21,672 people, also mostly civilians, according to the Hamas-run territory’s health ministry.

Those deaths have sparked widespread anger in the Middle East and provided an impetus for attacks by armed groups across the region that are opposed to Israel.

US forces in Iraq and Syria have also repeatedly come under fire from drone and rocket attacks that Washington says are being carried out by Iran-backed armed groups.

Centre's Sources Say Punjab's Allegations In Tableau Row Baseless: Report

Centre's Sources Say Punjab's Allegations In Tableau Row Baseless: Report

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has accused the Centre of discrimination

New Delhi:

Amid allegation by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann about discrimination over the selection of tableaux for the Republic Day Parade 2024, Ministry of Defence sources on Sunday said that the Punjab tableau did not align to the “broader themes” of this year’s tableau.

According to the sources, the tableau proposal of Punjab was considered in the first three rounds of meetings of the Expert Committee.

After the third round of meetings, the tableau of Punjab could not be taken forward by the Expert Committee for further consideration for not aligning with the broader themes of this year’s tableau, the sources.

Furthermore, as per the ministry sources, West Bengal’s proposal was also rejected for the same reasons.

While the tableau proposal of West Bengal was considered in the first two rounds of meetings of the Expert Committee. After the second round of meetings, the tableau of West Bengal could not be taken forward by the Expert Committee for further consideration for not aligning with the broader themes of this year’s tableau, the sources added.

For Republic Day Parade 2024, 30 states/Union Territories had shown their willingness to participate in the parade, the sources said.

Out of these 30, like every year, only 15-16 states/Union Territories will be finally selected to present their tableaux in the 2024 Republic Day Parade, it added.

The sources said that during the last few years, the tableau of Punjab has been shortlisted for the Republic Day Parade by the Expert Committee in the years 2017 to 2022 (six times in the last eight years) and the tableau of West Bengal for the years 2016, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023 (five times in last eight years) by following the same procedure as stated earlier.

The Defence Ministry sources outlined that the tableaux proposals received from various states/Union territories and central ministries are evaluated in a series of meetings of the “Expert Committee for selection of tableaux” comprising eminent persons in the field of art, culture, painting, sculpture, music, architecture, choreography.

The committee examines the proposals based on theme, concept, design and visual impact before making its recommendations.

Due to the time allotted for tableaux in the overall duration of the parade, shortlisting of tableaux is done by the Expert Committee, which leads to the participation of the best tableaux in the parade.

Calling the criticism by states baseless, the sources further asserted that the central government is preparing a three-year programme covering all states/Union territories, which will be shared with all the States/Union Territories, adding all states should be allowed to display their tableaux as per a formula.

Moreover, the states/Union territories not being selected for the Republic Day Parade 2024 are being invited to showcase their tableaux during Bharat Parv at Red Fort from January 23-31 2024 following the MoU signed with states/Union Territories, the sources added.

Earlier this week, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann hit out at the BJP-led central government over the non-inclusion of the state’s tableau for the Republic Day parade, alleging that the Centre has discriminated against the states ruled by the Aam Aadmi Party.

The Punjab Chief Minister said that, like last year, this year too, Punjab’s tableau for January 26 will not be included.

He also claimed that the decision of the Centre shows how much “poison” it has in its heart against the people of Punjab.

Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said that the BJP-led Centre keeps “bothering” the Delhi and Punjab governments led by the Aam Aadmi Party.

ISRO's First Mission Of 2024: When And Where To Watch XPoSat Launch

XPoSat will be launched at 9:10 am on January 1, 2024 (Representational)

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is gearing up for its first space mission of 2024 with the launch of the X-ray Polarimeter Satellite (XPoSat) on January 1.

Following the achievements of Chandrayaan-3 and Aditya L-1, this mission is India’s another significant step in space exploration.

Once launched, India will become the second country in the world to send a specialised astronomy observatory aimed at studying black holes and neutron stars.

A second of its kind after NASA’s Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE), XPoSat will be launched on the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle.

When to watch XPoSat launch?

ISRO will launch XPoSat at 9:10 AM on January 1 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.

Where to watch the XPoSat launch?

The launch of XPoSat will be streamed live on various social media channels. The historic event can be watched on ISRO’s official website, ISRO’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.

Apart from the official pages of ISRO, you can catch the live coverage on DD National TV channel. The live telecast of the launch will be available on NDTV 24X7.

In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter, ISRO wrote, “The launch of the X-Ray Polarimeter Satellite (XPoSat) is set for January 1, 2024, at 09:10 Hrs. IST from the first launch-pad, SDSC-SHAR, Sriharikota.”

XPoSat Vision

ISRO aims to launch XPoSat into an eastward low-inclination orbit. The PSLV-C58 will also carry the ‘PSLV Orbital Experimental Module’, or POEM.

An astrophysicist at the IIT Bombay, Dr Varun Bhalerao informed that through this mission, the ISRO aims to “decipher the stellar remnants or corpses of dead stars”.

Dr Varun Bhalerao said, “This is only the second mission of its sophisticated class after NASA’s 2021 mission named Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer or IXPE. The mission will try to decipher the stellar remnants or corpses of dead stars.”

XPoSat will use X-ray photons and their polarisation to study the radiation near black holes and neutron stars.

India’s third launch in less than a year will also unravel the mysteries of the ultra-extreme environments that one sees in space.
