Hyderabad: A day after the polling concluded peacefully, the ruling BRS switched gears preparing the party cadre for the counting to be held on Sunday. Though a few exit poll results led to confusion among the party cadre, the latter were advised not to worry about these projections and were reassured that the BRS will emerge victorious in the 2023 Assembly elections to form the government in Telangana for third consecutive term.
Sources said several BRS leaders including the party working president and Minister KT Rama Rao, Finance Minister T Harish Rao and other senior leaders met BRS president and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao at Pragathi Bhavan on Friday. They are learnt to have discussed about the exit poll results and also preparedness for the counting.
But the Chief Minister is said to have acknowledged the concerns of the party members and reassured them, asking them not to lose confidence in the party’s prospects. He reportedly reiterated that the next government in Telangana will be formed by the BRS. “He asked us to gear up to provide a good governance to the people of the State. He advised us not to get confused over exit polls, stay calm for two days and prepare for the counting,” a senior BRS leader told Telangana Today.
Chandrashekhar Rao is learnt to have asked the party leaders and cadre to be ready for celebrations on December 3 when the final results are officially announced. He also reportedly spoke to some key leaders over phone and instilled confidence in them, besides seeking ground-level information.
Later, Rama Rao, Harish Rao and other key leaders were indulged in relaying the Chief Minister’s message to the party cadre. They also reviewed the readiness of the party leaders including the BRS candidates and the party agents at the counting centres for the counting process on Sunday. They were all asked to stay vigilant till the counting process is completed and final results are announced.
Rubbishing the exit polls, Rama Rao took to social media platform X and posted that he had a peaceful sleep on Thursday night after a long time due to hectic campaigning. “After a long time, had a peaceful sleep. Exit polls can take a hike. Exact polls will give us good news (sic),” he posted.
The school authorities immediately alerted police, who reached the institutions concerned with the bomb disposal squads and anti-sabotage check teams, they said

Bomb 3
Bengaluru: Forty-eight private schools in Bengaluru on Friday morning received an email with a bomb threat on its premises, triggering panic among the staff and parents, police said.
The school authorities immediately alerted police, who reached the institutions concerned with the bomb disposal squads and anti-sabotage check teams, they said.
The students and staff were immediately evacuated from the school premises, police said, adding no suspicious objects have been found yet and prima facie, it looks like it’s a hoax message.
“So far, 48 schools in Bengaluru have received an email about bomb threat. The message about a bomb threat was received from an email id. Search operations are almost over and so far, our teams have not found any suspicious objects on any of the school premises. Prime facie, it appears to be a hoax message. We are also in the process of registering a case in this regard and a thorough investigation is underway,” a senior police officer said.
Students had already reached schools when they got to know about the email threat. Parents rushed to schools from their respective offices and homes in panic to get their children back home safely. Some of these students from different schools which received bomb threats said they had exams scheduled for the day.
“The email claimed that explosives had been planted on school premises. We received a call from the command centre and immediately rushed our teams to schools which are located in different parts of the city. All students and staff have been safely evacuated from the school premises and a thorough search operation was carried out,” another senior officer said.
Parents need not panic, our teams are on the ground, he said.
Earlier in the day, City Police Commissioner B Dayananda said, some schools in Bengaluru received threat emails. Bomb detection and disposal squads were sent to all these schools, and most likely it seemed to be a hoax.
“Earlier, also similar threat letters and emails had come to schools and they were found to be a hoax for mischief and police had identified those behind it. Police are verifying today’s mails too… officials and personnel have gone to all these spots. I appeal to people not to worry, as most likely all these are hoax calls (mails),” he said.
Last year also, some miscreants sent such emails claiming about a bomb threat to schools in Bengaluru, which later turned out to be a hoax message, police said.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said he has asked police to seriously investigate the e-mail and its source, and provide adequate security to schools and temples as a precautionary measure.
“I have spoken to police officers and I have instructed them to take adequate security measures at all places, to remain cautious, and to find out those behind it. There is no need for anyone to worry. I have asked security to be tightened, and checks to be conducted at schools which have received threats,” he added.
Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar visited one of the schools which received the bomb threat. He took information from the school and the police about the situation. “I was a bit dismayed after seeing the news on TV, as some schools I know and the one near my house were also mentioned. So I went out to check. The police have shown me the mail. Prima facie, it appears to be fake (hoax). I spoke to the police… But we should be cautious. Parents are a bit worried, no need to worry. Police are looking into it,” he said. Shivakumar appealed to parents not to worry and said their children would be safe.
“Some mischief mongers might have done this, in 24 hours we will nab them. Cyber crime police are active; they are doing their job… We should also be cautious and should not neglect,” he added.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said the message had come from email id kharijites@beeble.com. The email says bombs have been placed in about 15 schools in Bengaluru and threatened to kill children and staff.
“We are seriously verifying it and its source. I have spoken to the Commissioner and officials and have given the necessary instructions and verification on whether it’s true or hoax and measures to be taken accordingly.
“We will verify as to who is behind it and if there is the involvement of any terrorist organisation, and take measures accordingly. For now, it cannot be said who is behind it. The message in the email asks people to convert and other things, it will be verified,” he told reporters here.
The home minister recalled that last year, too, a similar threat had come. It was a hoax. This also may be a hoax, but we won’t take it lightly. Even if there is one per cent (doubt), we will take it seriously and take measures like sensitising the intelligence and informing central agencies, which the department has to do.
Stating that he is in regular touch with officials and, if necessary, will hold a meeting with senior officials, Parameshwara appealed to parents and the public not to worry. “First we will focus on checking and clearing in 15 schools, and will look into other schools later with jurisdiction police station officials visiting them,” he added.

More than 15,000 people were killed in the first phase of the war say Hamas. (File)
Jerusalem, Undefined:
The Israeli military on Friday published a map of what it called “evacuation zones” in the Gaza Strip, after international demands to create safe areas where civilians can shelter from devastating bombardments.
A truce pausing fighting between Israel and Hamas in the Palestinian territory expired Friday and hostilities resumed immediately, with Israeli forces bombarding several areas and Palestinian operatives firing rockets towards Israel.
The map, which is in Arabic and zoomable on the military’s website, divides the Gaza Strip into hundreds of numbered sectors.
The military said it was intended to enable residents to “evacuate from specific places for their safety if required”.
Residents in multiple numbered areas were sent SMS warnings on Friday.
“The IDF will begin a crushing military attack on your area of residence with the aim of eliminating the terrorist organisation Hamas,” the warnings said, urging people to seek some shelter.
“Stay away from all military activity of every kind,” they added.
Around 10 minutes later the explosions started. Mobile networks in the Gaza Strip can be slow, with SMS deliveries sometimes taking several minutes.
The territory’s Hamas-run government says more than 15,000 people were killed in the first phase of the war, and images of wholescale destruction, particularly in northern Gaza, have raised concerns in the international community.
The conflict between Israel and Hamas is now in its eighth week after the Palestinian operatives rushed across the border from Gaza on October 7 into southern Israel, killing some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and seizing 240 hostages.
The Hamas-run government in Gaza says more than 15,000 people, also mostly civilians, have since been killed by Israeli bombardments.
Visiting the region on Thursday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken urged Israel to minimise innocent Palestinian casualties, “including by clearly and precisely designated areas… where they can be safe and out of the line of fire”.
In its announcement, the military said Hamas “turns civilian sites into military targets while using civilians and civilian facilities as a human shield”.
The map was intended to enable residents “to orient themselves and understand the instructions, and to evacuate from specific places for their safety if required”, it added.
The military did not immediately respond when asked by AFP how much notice was given to residents before an assault.
During the first phase of the war, Israel urged civilians in the northern Gaza Strip to relocate to the southern part of the territory, but UN reports indicate that a third of those killed died south of the boundary line.

Hyderabad: Timely intervention by the Centre warded off what could have been an ugly face-off between AndhraPradesh and Telangana governments on Friday, after AndhraPradesh deployed its police forces and attempted to draw more than its share of water from NagarjunaSagar dam. As tensions escalated between two states, Home Secretary AjayBhalla intervened to direct the restoration of the status quo at the dam site. This order includes the immediate withdrawal of AndhraPradesh forces, who recently assumed control over the dam’s operations.
The conflict escalated following AndhraPradesh’s attempts to draw more than its allocated share of water, a move contested by Telangana.Bhalla’s directive came in response to an overnight operation where AndhraPradesh forces took control of the dam’s 13 gates and the right canal head regulator. This takeover involved damaging CCTV cameras and other infrastructure at the dam office, actions that have intensified the dispute between the neighbouring states.
The Nagarjunasagar Dam, a critical water resource in the region, has traditionally been under the operational jurisdiction of Telangana’s Irrigation Department. The recent developments mark a significant escalation in the ongoing water-sharing dispute between AndhraPradesh and Telangana, necessitating central intervention to maintain order and uphold existing agreements.
The union Home Secretary took exception to the midnight operations in which AndhraPradesh police intruded into the project and took control of all operations. The intervention came close on the heels of the decision of Telangana State to scale up its deployment of police at the project to beat back the forcible occupation of a major portion of the project by AndhraPradesh.
The Home Secretary held a video conference with the Chief Secretaries, Irrigation Secretaries and DGPs of the two states and asked them to restore normalcy immediately. He directed the Krishna River Management Board officials to reach the dam site immediately and initiate measures to defuse tension on the inter- state borders.
He also directed officials to step up surveillance at the project if needed by drawing reinforcements from the CRPF stationed in both States. He wanted the obstructions put up by barricading and fencing of the roads leading to the dam by AndhraPradesh to be cleared immediately.
Officials of the Ministry of JalShakti and the Central Water Commission, who also took part in the conference were asked to monitor the situation closely and initiate measures to avoid any untoward incidents.
High level meeting on Saturday
As a follow up, a high-level meeting of officials of the two Telugu States as well as the Krishna River Management Board and the Central Water Commission will be held to discuss steps to resolve the conflict over the sharing of water available in both Nagarjunasagar Dam and the Srisailam project on Saturday.
The KRMB also dashed off a letter to the Principal Secretary, Water Resources Department of AndhraPradesh on Friday evening directing him to “stopdrawal of water from the NSP right canal immediately”. The water indent raised by AndhraPradesh seeking 15 TMC from NagarjunaSagar reservoir was considered by the three-member committee of the KRBM. As per the KRMB water release order, five TMC was to be released to AndhraPradesh from October 10 to 29 and five TMC more from January 8 to January 18. In the last round scheduled from April 8 to April 18, AndhraPradesh will be entitled to five more TMC.
In October 2023, about 5.016 tmc of water was released to AP and rest of the demand was to be met in January and April 2024. AP had not raised any revised indent seeking more water from the project before November 30. Taking a serious view of the forcible opening of gates for the release of water, the KRMB directed AP to stop the water drawal from the right canal immediately.
