Israel uses doctors as human shields in raids on Gaza

Several doctors and surgeons were cited in a report by the UK-based news website Middle East Eye on Friday that the occupying regime’s forces used them as “hostages” when they invaded the al-Shifa Hospital during the weeks-long Israeli siege and bombardment of the largest medical complex in Gaza.

The doctors said the Zionists troops detained Mohammed Abu Silmiya, head of al-Shifa Hospital, along with more than 20 other medical personnel from Gaza.

Silmiya was reported to have been in custody and interrogated twice by Zionists officers inside the al-Shifa Hospital.

Marwan Abu Saada, head of the surgery department at al-Shifa Hospital, said, “For several days, Zionists aircraft kept bombing different buildings and departments of the hospital. Quadcopters were shooting directly at people, including patients and displaced persons. People were killed inside the hospita.”

“They besieged the hospital for five days before they stormed its departments. They kept us [in certain areas] and threatened us [with getting targeted]. When they stormed the ground stores, they used us [doctors] as human shields to enter and search them. They found the technical maintenance employees there and interrogated them, before they detained them.”

He added that the Zionists forces took several doctors with them while moving from one department to another and searching the different offices and rooms of al-Shifa Hospital.

“We felt that we were hostages, used to [protect] Zionist soldiers. They took me and Dr Abu Silmiya and interrogated us. They did not use violence with me or Dr. Abu Silmiya. But they interrogated Dr. Abu Silmiya twice,” Abu Saada continued.

The doctor said Zionist forces questioned him and Abu Silmiya about the presence of any members of the Palestinian Resistance movement Hamas or hostages in the hospital’s offices or if there was any activity being conducted by Hamas in al-Shifa.

“We said no because we have never seen any Hamas members there. They besieged us in the hospital for five days, and on the eve of the truce, I returned home, and patients and some medical staff members were evacuated to the south,” Abu Saada said.

Fadel Naim, a doctor who had witnessed the Zionist attacks, was cited by the Middle East Eye as saying that Zionist forces interrogated the doctors to gain information about the Palestinian Resistance groups.

“Many doctors and healthcare professionals have been interrogated and detained,” Naim said.

“Every Palestinian is subject to detention, but they detain doctors in particular thinking that they would get information that might prove their allegations about the Resistance. They interrogate them to get information and details about other people.”

Naim added that since the beginning of the Zionist attacks on Gaza, he had witnessed or heard of many doctors getting killed or wounded.

“Many of our colleagues were directly killed. Every day, we hear the name of another doctor who was killed. Many of the doctors who were once our students were also killed or detained,” he said.

Israel waged its war on Gaza on October 7 after Hamas launched an operation against the occupied territories on that day in response to the Israeli regime’s decades-long campaign of bloodletting and devastation against Palestinians.

Tel Aviv also blocked water, food, and electricity to Gaza, plunging the coastal strip into a humanitarian crisis.

More than 15,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, have been killed in the Israeli strikes.

US House expels scandal-plagued congressman for corruption

The US House of Representatives has voted in a historic move to expel scandal-plagued Congressman George Santos for corruption.

The vote was issued on Friday after it emerged that Santos had lied in his professional biography, from his education and religion to his personal history and professional experience.

Santos, who represents the country’s Republican Party, is also charged for stealing donor cash to fund his lavish lifestyle.

Credit card fraud, money laundering and identity theft are also on the list.

Santos has denied his criminal charges, while accusing the Ethics Committee of a “smear campaign.”

“My future former colleague is divorced from reality. He has manufactured his entire life,” said Marc Molinaro, a fellow New York Republican.

“He is a perpetrator of a massive fraud on his constituents and the American people,” Pennsylvania Rep. Susan Wild, the top Democrat on the Ethics Committee, said Thursday.

Florida’s Matt Gaetz defended Santos in a floor speech on Thursday, saying, “Since the beginning of Congress, there’s only two ways you get expelled: You get convicted of a crime, or you participated in the Civil War. Neither apply to George Santos.”

The decision comes after a congressional ethic investigation that found “overwhelming evidence” of misconduct and accused him of seeking to “fraudulently exploit every aspect of his House candidacy.”

The scandal-plagued New Yorker was ousted in an overwhelming vote supported by more than 100 of his fellow Republicans.

He is the sixth House member to be expelled since 1786 and the first since 2002, When Ohio Democrat James Traficant was ousted over a bribery conviction.

His criminal trial is set to go to trial next September.

Palestine belongs to its indigenous inhabitants, not Zionist occupiers: Rabbi

By Press TV Staff Writer

A New York-based Jewish activist says the peace that existed in Palestine before Zionists occupied it can only be restored if the international community dismantles the regime and hands over the control of the occupied lands to its indigenous inhabitants.

In an interview with the Press TV website, Rabbi Dovid Feldman, a spokesman for Neturei Karta International, an international organization of anti-Zionist Jews, said the Israeli killing machine must be stopped by the international community.

“The international community should work toward a peaceful and total dismantlement of the Zionist state, to return control of the land to its indigenous inhabitants and restore all their rights,” he said.

“Only then can we expect a restoration to the historic peace that existed prior to Zionism.”

The prominent activist hastened to add that it is time for world leaders to stop the Zionist regime’s “genocidal crimes” in the besieged Gaza Strip, which have intensified since October 7.

More than 15,000 Palestinians, most of them children and women, have been killed in the past seven weeks in the coastal territory amid the Israeli regime’s indiscriminate aerial and ground aggression.

The four-day temporary truce, which was extended twice, was again broken by the Israeli regime on Friday, drawing widespread condemnation across the world, including from Jews in the West.

“Knowing that the Zionists do not respect ‎international law, the world needs to take the necessary steps to bring an end to more than 75 years of suffering in Palestine,” Rabbi Feldman stressed.

He said the solution for the long-running crisis requires identifying the “root cause of the problem” which is “to recognize that Palestine has been occupied by Zionists through crimes and by lying to the world.”

The regime has brought “only pain and suffering” to the Palestinians since occupying their lands, the outspoken activist emphasized, adding that “to end the constant cycle of bloodshed and tragedies, Palestine must be returned to the Palestinians and the Zionist movement must cease.”

He was referring to the controversial 1917 Balfour Declaration, the brainchild of Western regimes, which promised Jews a homeland in Palestine without consulting the indigenous population.

Considered a colonial project, the declaration violated the rights and aspirations of the native Palestinians, who resisted the Zionist invasion and forcible occupation of their land.

In 1948, Zionist paramilitaries carried out a brutal ethnic cleansing that came to be known as Nakba or catastrophe. They destroyed more than 500 Palestinian villages, towns and cities, killed about 15,000 Palestinians, and expelled about 750,000 Palestinians from their homes.

Zionists captured 78 percent of historic Palestine, leaving the Palestinians with only 22 percent, which is now occupied and besieged by the West-backed regime.

The new wave of attacks on Gaza, where almost 2.3 million Palestinians live, has been designed to force Palestinians out, which many Palestinian activists have described as the precursor to the “second Nakba.”

“The concern is big, comments by Zionist officials indicate so and are suspicious,” Feldman said.

The regime lacks “morals” and will “do anything, including sacrificing the lives of the Palestinian people and Jewish lives for the evil of Zionism to achieve their goal of having their state,” he noted.

The New York-based Rabbi did not rule out the possibility of Israeli intention to clear Gaza, stressing, “Everything is possible when you’re dealing with evil.”

2 Homeless People Killed, 3 Injured In Las Vegas Shooting: Report

2 Homeless People Killed, 3 Injured In Las Vegas Shooting: Report

Mass shootings are alarmingly common in the United States (Representational)

Washington:

Five people were shot Friday, at least one of them fatally, in a “homeless encampment” in Las Vegas, authorities said.

Police responded to a shooting on the city’s east side soon after 5:30 pm local time (0130 GMT Saturday), Lieutenant Jason Johansson told a news conference carried by KSNV News 3, Las Vegas.

At least one victim died in hospital, Johansson said, but local media later reported that two homeless people were killed and three wounded.

“I wish I could say that I knew for a fact that it was an isolated (incident),” he said. “Right now I’m treating it as ‘I don’t know’.”

The shooting comes less than a week after three homeless people were killed in separate but similar incidents in Los Angeles.

All three victims were killed as they slept alone outside and Los Angeles police said they are pursuing a lone suspect.

Asked if the Las Vegas incident could be related to the Los Angeles shootings, Johansson said “this is quite a bit different… so I’m not inclined to say that it is related.”

“But if our investigation takes us that route then we’ll go there, but we’re not there right now,” he said.

Mass shootings are alarmingly common in the United States, where there are more guns than people and where attempts to clamp down on their spread are always met with stiff resistance.

The United States has recorded more than 500 mass shootings this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive, a non-governmental organization that defines a mass shooting as four or more people wounded or killed.
