Cornell University Student Arrested For Making Online Threats To Jewish Students On Campus

Patrick Dai allegedly threatened to “stab” Jewish students on campus.

Police in the United States have arrested a Cornell University students for allegedly making violent threats against his Jewish peers. The US Justice Department identified the students as 21-year-old Patrick Dai from Pittsford, New York. He is accused of posting threatening messages to the Cornell section of an online discussion website, including those calling for the deaths of Jewish people and a post that said “gonna shoot up 104 west”. The term 104 west refers to Cornell University dining hall that is located next to the Cornell Jewish Centre, the Justice Department further said.

Dai also allegedly threatened to “stab” and “slit the throat” of any Jewish males he sees on campus, to rape and throw off a cliff any Jewish females, and to behead any Jewish babies, according to Cornell University Police.

He was arrested after the investigators traced the deranged posts to Dai’s IP address at his off-campus apartment, NBC News reported citing federal complaint.

His family, however, believe their son is innocent.

“My son is in severe depression. He cannot control his emotion well due to the depression. No, I don’t think he committed the crime,” his father told New York Post in a text message, asking that his name not be used.

He also claimed that Dai sank into depression in 2021, one year after his engineering studies at the prestigious university.

At Cornell, Dai worked as an undergraduate consultant helping other engineering students with MATLAB, a computer programming language.

His parents said the man never had a history of violence.

“He was always very nice to society, well organised, helpful to my family and his classmates before 2021. He told us he lost his life goal and motivation. As parents, we tried to give him more love,” Dai’s father told the Post.

The US Justice Department website said the charge against Dai carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 (Rs 2.08 crore).

He will be presented before a federal court in Syracuse, New York, on Wednesday.

The investigation against him is being done by FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF), which includes the New York State Police.

UN: Israeli airstrikes on Jabalia refugee camp could amount to ‘war crime’

The United Nations human rights office says Israel’s barrage of airstrikes on Jabalia refugee camp in the besieged Gaza Strip could amount to a “war crime,” as the deadly strikes have so far claimed scores of Palestinian lives.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, Israel conducted heavy bombardment against Jabalia refugee camp, situated near Gaza City. Approximately 400 individuals are believed to have been killed or injured, mostly women and children, as reported by the Palestinian health ministry.

At least 195 people have been confirmed dead with more than 100 believed to be missing beneath the rubble as a result of the airstrikes on the refugee camp. Some 777 people were injured in the attacks.

In a statement on Thursday, the Office of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) said that the high number of casualties and scale of destruction raise questions about proportionality.

“Given the high number of civilian casualties [and] the scale of destruction following Israeli air strikes on Jabalia refugee camp, we have serious concerns that these are disproportionate attacks that could amount to war crimes,” it said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Jabalia is the largest of the Gaza Strip’s UN refugee camps housing people forcibly expelled by Zionist militia and Israel in 1948. The area is reportedly home to nearly 120,000 people.

The statement follows a wave of condemnation from the UN, where officials expressed shock and horror at the attacks on the crowded refugee camp.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres “is appalled over the escalating violence in Gaza, including the killing of Palestinians, including women and children in Israeli air strikes in residential areas of the densely populated Jabalia refugee camp,” said spokesman Stephane Dujarric on Wednesday.

The UN’s children’s agency, UNICEF, also described the attacks as “horrific and appalling.”

“This is just the latest atrocity to befall the people of Gaza where the fighting has entered an even more terrifying phase, with increasingly dreadful humanitarian consequences,” said Martin Griffiths, the UN humanitarian chief, for his part.

“The world seems unable, or unwilling, to act. This cannot go on. We need a step change,” he stressed.

The civilian death toll in Gaza and desperate humanitarian conditions have caused great concern across the world as food, fuel, drinking water and medicine are running short.

On October 7, Israel launched a full-scale war on the impoverished Gaza Strip, where shortages of food, water, and medicine threaten the lives of Gazans and hospitals are overwhelmed amid incessant Israeli bombings.

The ceaseless airstrikes, missile attacks and shelling on Gaza have killed, as of Wednesday, 8,796 Palestinians, including 3,648 children and 2,290 women, and wounded at least 22,219 others, according to officials.

Around 2,000 people are still missing, including 1,100 children. The vast majority of these people are believed to be dead and buried under rubble.

Nitin Gadkari Announces Completion Of Ramban Viaduct In Jammu And Kashmir

Nitin Gadkari Announces Completion Of Ramban Viaduct In Jammu And Kashmir

Nitin Gadkari said that the Centre is dedicated to providing quality infrastructure to Jammu and Kashmir.

New Delhi:

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday announced the completion of the construction of the 1.08-kilometer long, four-lane Ramban viaduct on the Udhampur-Ramban section of National Highway-44.

Calling it a monumental achievement, Mr Gadkari in a post on X said, “In Jammu and Kashmir, we have successfully completed the construction of the Ramban Viaduct, a remarkable feat spanning a length of 1.08 kilometers with 4 lanes. The project, built at a cost of Rs 328 crore is situated on the Udhampur-Ramban section of National Highway 44.”

“This extraordinary viaduct is composed of 26 spans and employs a combination of concrete and steel girders in its structural design,” he added.

Mr Gadkari said that this project will significantly alleviate traffic congestion in Ramban Bazar and facilitate a smoother flow of vehicles.

Union Minister further stated that the Centre is dedicated to providing quality infrastructure to Jammu and Kashmir.

“Embracing the visionary leadership of PM Modi, we stand dedicated to providing Jammu and Kashmir with a superlative highway infrastructure. This monumental achievement not only propels regional economic prosperity but also augments its allure as a top-tier tourist haven,” he said.

Muslim nations envoys in Israel amid aggression a disgrace

Israel’s crimes in the Gaza strip go beyond any expectations. More than 8,000 people have been killed, half of whom are children. Tens of thousands of people have been injured. About 200,000 houses were destroyed or damaged. Large parts of the residential areas of Gaza, especially in North Gaza, have turned into rubble. Israel targets innocent people with all its destructive weapons, including one-ton bombs and phosphorous bombs. Water, electricity, internet and telephone have been cut off. All the ways for food and necessities supplies of the people have been shut down. The medicine is running out. Israel has used everything it can to annihilate the people of Gaza.

These unprecedented crimes have provoked an international outcry. Massive rallies have been held across the globe in London, New York, Paris and other major cities. The protests have been extended to the US Capitol Hill and government centers in Canada. Many politicians in the East and West of the world have condemned these crimes. A Spanish cabinet minister wants to cut ties with Israel. Bolivia has cut ties with Israel. Other countries such as Chile and Colombia have recalled their ambassadors from Israel. But unfortunately, the Islamic countries that have relations with Israel, have not yet shown a serious and responsible reaction in this regard. Only Jordan has recalled its ambassador from Israel. At such a time when the crimes of the Zionist regime have reached the highest level and the existence of a Muslim population of two million people has been put in danger, Islamic countries are expected to recall their ambassadors from Israel and cut off their relations with the entity or at least warn that If the brutal attacks of the Israeli army and the slaughtering civilians and Palestinian children continues, they will cut off their relationship with the regime.

No one expects these countries to engage in military battles, but they can at least threaten to sever their ties. This threat, due to the importance of regional countries for Israel, can put heavy pressure on Israel and be a real help to the innocent people of Gaza. These measures can save the lives of many Muslims in Gaza and prevent the wanton killing of children and women. Therefore, it is necessary for all Muslim nations to address the Islamic governments and ask them to stop watching and do nothing and take effective action to save the lives of the oppressed Palestinians. Now, as Israel continues with its crimes, the Muslim states of UAE, Bahrain, Egypt, Morocco, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Chad and Mali have to take action. Today, the presence of the ambassadors of these countries in Israel has no justification. It is a great shame for those Muslim nations that Israel threatens two million Muslims with its crimes and Muslim ambassadors just sit idle in Israel with and only observe its crimes.

Spain’s ministers denounce ongoing Israeli ‘genocide’ in Gaza

Several Spanish ministers have slammed the ongoing Israeli “genocide” in the Gaza Strip, urging their government to do more to stop the regime’s atrocities against Palestinians.

“Bombing hospitals, refugee camps, children, defenseless elderly people, Israel is demonstrating the worst of humanity. How long will European leaders make us accomplices of this barbarism,” Ione Belarra, Head of the Podemos party and Minister of Social Rights, posted on X.

Belarra has already Spain and the EU to break off ties with Israel.

On Wednesday, she praised Bolivia for cutting off its diplomatic relations with the occupying regime.

After Israel admitted to bombing a refugee camp on Tuesday, Spain’s Minister for Consumer Affairs, Alberto Garzon, also shared his condemnation.

“The impunity of Israel and its crimes is an international disgrace. A genocide that will weigh on the Western governments that support and justify it,” he posted on social media.

Meanwhile, Spain’s Equality Minister, Irene Montero, re-shared Colombian leader Gustavo Petro’s post calling Israel’s actions genocidal and saying “its allies cannot speak of democracy.”

In response, the Federation of Jewish Communities in Spain accused the Spanish minister of “anti-Semitism.”

The Israeli embassy in Spain also slammed them as having “aligned themselves with ISIS-like terrorism” for prior comments.

The country’s Foreign Affairs Minister Jose Manuel Albares and Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez have called for an urgent humanitarian ceasefire and criticized the Israeli siege.

Albares said on Wednesday he was “appalled by the civilian victims of the bombing in Jabalya.”

Sanchez is also trying to organize a peace summit to give the warring sides a “concrete horizon” for lasting solutions.

“The international community already recognizes Israel and now what we need to do is to recognize the Palestinian State,” he said.

Lone Belarra had earlier posted a video on her X account unequivocally condemning Israeli crimes.

“Today we are here accompanying all the decent people of our country and also all those people throughout Europe who want to ask and demand an end once and for all to this planned genocide, this ethnic cleansing of the people of Palestine that is being carried out by the State of Israel,” Belarra said.

The European leaders, including those of Spain, are “not up to the gravity of the circumstances,” she said, adding, “We do not want to be complicit in this planned genocide and we think that Europe must act urgently. I believe that Europe is going to pay dearly for this hypocrisy.”

The ongoing Israeli offensive has pushed the Gaza Strip to the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe, with hundreds of thousands of Palestinian civilians enduring immense suffering and loss.

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk also warned on Saturday that there was the potential for thousands more civilians to die if Israel pressed ahead with a ground offensive in Gaza.

"Congress Will Defeat KCR's Party In Telangana And BJP In Centre": Rahul Gandhi

'Congress Will Defeat KCR's Party In Telangana And BJP In Centre': Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi said that the election in Telangana is between BRS and Congress.

Nagarkurnool (Telangana):

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday attacked the Bharat Rashtra Samithi government in Telangana over “corruption” and alleged that there was collusion between BRS and BJP.

Addressing a rally in Nagarkurnool, Rahul Gandhi expressed confidence of Congress forming government in Telangana in assembly polls later this month and said it will question BRS leader and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao about “the loot of public money”.

Rahul Gandhi said that the election in Telangana is between BRS and Congress.

“The truth is that BRS, BJP and AIMIM are working together. Just like we punctured the tyre of the BJP here, we are going to puncture their tyre across India. First, we have to win in Telangana, MP, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh and then we are winning in the country in 2024. We all together are going to defeat BRS here and then defeat BJP in the Centre,” Mr Gandhi said.

The Congress leader also took potshots at BJP over disqualification from Lok Sabha following a criminal defamation case with his conviction later stayed by the Supreme Court.

“There are ED, CBI, IT and vigilance cases on opposition leaders. I have 24 cases against me. I was disqualified from the Lok Sabha. My official house was taken away. I happily gave my house away. Entire India and Telangana is my home. They register cases and attack whoever fights them but your Chief Minister has no cases against him. This is because PM Narendra Modi and your Chief Minister are together,” he said.

“On the other side, there is AIMIM. Wherever Congress contests an election, be it Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, AIMIM candidates appear there by magic…AIMIM people provide help to the BJP,” he alleged.

Mr Gandhi made light of remarks of BJP leaders about the party making an OBC leader next Chief Minister in the state.

“BJP leaders come here (Telangana) and say that they will make an OBC the Chief Minister of the state. You (BJP) will get 2 per cent votes here, how are you going to do it?” he said.

Telangana is among five states going to the polls this month. Polling will be held in the state on November 30 and counting of votes will take place on December 3.

Mahua Moitra's Parliamentary Account Accessed 47 Times From Dubai: Report

Mahua Moitra's Parliamentary Account Accessed 47 Times From Dubai: Report

Nearly 47 log-in attempts were reportedly made to Mahua Moitra’s parliamentary account

New Delhi:

A day before Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra appears before the Lok Sabha’s Ethics Committee, probing BJP MP Nishikant Dubey’s “cash-for-query” allegations against her, sources privy to the matter alleged that nearly 47 log-ins to her parliamentary account were made from Dubai.

He has accused Ms Moitra of asking questions, which were keyed in through her parliamentary account, at the behest of businessman Darshan Hiranandani in return for bribes and favours from the Dubai-based scion of a well-known business family.

Ms Moitra has admitted that she shared her log-in credentials with Mr Hiranandani, whom she has described as a close friend for a long time, but has ruled out any pecuniary motivation and asserted that the questions were always hers.

Nishikant Dubey has accused her of compromising national interest by sharing her parliamentary portal log-in and password with an outsider, and has cited the agreement MPs sign to keep the details secret to demand action against her.

The third-term BJP MP from Godda in Jharkhand today referred to “media reports” that her log-in was opened 47 times from Mr Hiranandani’s place in Dubai and as many questions were asked in Parliament.

“If this news is true, then all the MPs of the country should stand against Mahua ji’s corruption. Hiranandani asked questions in Lok Sabha for Hiranandani. Are we MPs for promoting selfish interests of capitalists,” Mr Dubey said on X.

The committee has taken assistance from the Union ministries of home and information technology to probe the matter and is believed to have received details from them to its queries.

What has added to Mahua Moitra’s woes is an affidavit by the businessman in which he admitted to giving bribes to her so that she could ask questions to target the Adani Group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

She has claimed that Mr Hiranandani was coerced by the government to file the affidavit and has sought to question him during her appearance at the panel, an unlikely eventuality as it is not a standard practice in the working of such parliamentary panels.

The Trinamool MP has claimed that the Adani Group is behind the alleged charges due to her strident criticism of the business conglomerate.

I have full confidence: PM Modi writes open letter to voters of Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal: Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote an open letter to the people of Madhya Pradesh, underlining the many developmental and public welfare schemes of the ‘double-engine government’ for the poll-bound state and expressing confidence that they will shower their electoral blessings on the party again in the November 17 polls.

“I have full confidence that you will extend your support to me in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections and this time we will form a double-engine government,” PM Modi wrote in his letter. He said he feels the immense love and energy of the people whenever he visits Madhya Pradesh.

“The progress that Madhya Pradesh has made is a matter of great joy for us. In the last 20 years, Madhya Pradesh has transformed from a sick state to a strong, prosperous, and self-reliant one,” PM Modi wrote.

He said under the leadership of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the state has made significant strides across sectors.

“Who can forget the times before 2003 when the state lacked basic amenities? In these 20 years, under the leadership of Chief Minister Chouhan, significant developments have taken place, with the construction of over a lakh kilometres of roads, over 16% economic growth, water connections to more than a lakh homes, and the generation of 28,000 megawatts of energy,” PM Modi stated further in his letter.

He added that development model of the BJP-ruled state has become a benchmark for the entire country, with a focus on the welfare of the poor, women empowerment, and holistic development.

“The BJP government has implemented schemes for every section of society, which have brought more than 1.36 crore people above the poverty line in Madhya Pradesh. We have worked towards the dedication of sisters and the realization of Lalit Lakshyam. The current well-being of Madhya Pradesh’s farmers and youth is due to the proactive welfare schemes, and they are witnessing a brighter future,” PM Modi added in his letter. He said that before 2014, Madhya Pradesh faced many development handicaps, with Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) in powet at the Centre.

“We have not only given a bright future to Madhya Pradesh but also preserved its glorious history. It is your tireless efforts and the double-engine government that have led Madhya Pradesh to become one of India’s top three economies,” PM Modi said.

“I have always had a special connection with Madhya Pradesh, and due to this, you showered boundless love on me and secured an unprecedented victory for the BJP in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections. I am confident that in the upcoming Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, you will extend your unwavering support to me, and with your trust in the BJP, we will form a double-engine government once again. Wishing you a prosperous future,” he added.

The counting of votes for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, along with those of four other poll-bound states, has been scheduled for December 3.
