Bahrain halts all economic ties with Zionist regime

In a statement, the parliament of the Persian Gulf state said the moves were part of measures taken in support of “the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people”.

Bahrain, which established diplomatic ties with the Israeli regime in 2020, said the Zionist ambassador to Manama had already left, Aljazeera reported.

The announcement came a day after Jordan said it had also recalled its ambassador to the occupied lands to protest against the “catastrophe” amid Zionist attacks.

Bahrain Parliament members stated that the continuation of the war and military operations of the Zionist regime against the Gaza Strip in the shadow of disregard for international and humanitarian laws has made them take more measures to protect the lives of civilians in Gaza and throughout Palestine.

Bahrain is the first Arab country to stop exchanging ambassadors with the Zionist regime.

Ahmed bin Salman Al-Musallam, Speaker of the Bahraini Parliament emphasized ” We support the rights of the Palestinian nation in the formation of an independent Palestinian state centered on Quds”.

Mumbai: Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli’s inspiring partnership along with Shreyas Iyer’s fireworks in the middle overs powered India to a total of 357/8 against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.

Gill, Kohli and Iyer made most of the run-scoring opportunities that were on offer at the high-scoring Wankede Stadium.

Dilshan Madhushanka and Dushmantha Chameera kicked off the proceedings for Sri Lanka the way they would have hoped for after winning the toss and forcing the unbeaten India side to bat first.

Skipper Rohit Sharma struck a four on the very first ball of the first innings to set the tone of the game and announce his arrival to his home fans. But Madhushanka set him up perfectly to claim the in-form batter’s wicket on the next ball.

An off-cutter from the left-armer was enough to deceive Rohit and knock off the leg stump to end Rohit’s stay at the crease on a score of 4. Chameera ensured that the pressure remained on Indian batters as he bowled a maiden over.

Madushanka stepped in once again threatening Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill’s wicket but ended up conceding a couple of runs. Chameera followed up to repair the damage with a second consecutive maiden over making both batters toil hard for each run.

The pressure finally paid off in the next over but Sri Lanka’s misfielding issues caused their downfall. Madushanka lured Gill to play a drive shot, but misled by the pace Gill went early, and the ball carried straight to Charith Asalanka who failed to hold onto the ball.

Chameera created another opportunity in the next over, tempting Kohli to play a straight drive on a good-length delivery. Kohli accepted the offer and committed to the shot sending it straight back to Chameera who got his left hand to the ball but failed to hold onto it. In a span of three deliveries Sri Lanka had the opportunity to get both batters but failed to capitalize on the opportunity.

When teams drop catches they get punished once again a similar theme unfolded. Both batters went on to stitch up a 189-run partnership ensuring that the Men in Blue enjoy a healthy run rate as well. As both of them approached to claim their deserved tons, the nervous ninety got the better of Gill.

The young right-handed batter failed to read Madushanka’s slow off-cutter and made a failed attempt to chip it over the keeper. Gill (92) got beaten by the lack of pace and the ball travelled comfortably in the gloves of Kusal Mendis.

Kohli (88) was next to depart with the slower delivery once again doing the trick for Madushanka. Kohli timed it a bit early and aimed it towards short cover, Pathum Nissanka dived low to take a stunning catch. He fell short of matching Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI centuries by 12 runs.

The next 20 overs were a story of short cameos by Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul. While Shreyas Iyer got back his groove and tried to go after each delivery that fell in his hitting zone.

Iyer’s fireworks at the climax of the first innings saw him scoring two consecutive sixes and then losing his wicket. Madushanka claimed his five-wicket haul hoping to restrict the Indian team from reaching a 350-plus score.

Ravindra Jadeja stayed on the pitch scoring boundaries on deliveries that landed in his hitting zone. His influential knock of 34 at the end guided India to a score of 357/8.

Brief Score: India 357/8 (Shubman Gill 92, Virat Kohli 88; Dilshan Madushanka 5-80) vs Sri Lanka.

Bengal Governor's "Tagore An Emotion" Reminder Amid Santiniketan Row

Bengal Governor's 'Tagore An Emotion' Reminder Amid Santiniketan Row

Kolkata:

Maintaining that Rabindranath Tagore was an emotion, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose on Wednesday said that the Nobel laureate’s memory cannot be obliterated or ignored.

Mr Bose made the comment when asked by reporters about the row over the plaques installed at the Visva-Bharati, founded by Tagore, to mark the UNESCO world heritage tag.

The plaques installed at the central university’s Santiniketan campus in Birbhum district do not have Tagore’s name, but bear those of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is the chancellor, and Vice-chancellor Bidyut Chakrabarty.

“Tagore is a feeling, an emotion felt in the heart of Indians. There cannot be any instance where Gurudev’s memory is obliterated or ignored. Gurudev enjoys the highest respect in the minds of all Indians,” said Mr Bose, who is also the rector of the varsity, on the sidelines of a programme at the Raj Bhavan.

Santiniketan, where Tagore built Visva-Bharati over a century ago, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in September.

The omission of Tagore’s name led to a row between the state government and the varsity authorities following which Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee demanded immediate replacement of the plaques.

The Trinamool Congress is holding a demonstration outside the varsity demanding removal of the plaques as they do not have Tagore’s name on them.

“Established in rural West Bengal in 1901 by the renowned poet and philosopher, Rabindranath Tagore, Santiniketan was a residential school and centre for art based on ancient Indian traditions and on a vision of the unity of humanity transcending religious and cultural boundaries,” according to a UNESCO website.

Tagore set up a university there in 1921. Ten years after his death, Visva-Bharati was declared a central university and an institution of national importance by an Act of Parliament in 1951.

Intl. HR legitimacy depends on practical action in Gaza

Ali Bagheri Kani met and held talks with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk in Geneva on Wednesday.

Regarding the unfortunate situation of human rights in Gaza and the targeted violation of human rights in this area, he stated that efforts should be made to stop war crimes and massacres of the Palestinian people.

He asked the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the highest international human rights authority, to make an effective effort to prevent the killing of innocents and prevent the continuation of serious and systematic violations of the human rights of the Palestinian people by the Zionist regime.

Bagheri Kani emphasized that the Israeli regime’s claim of legitimate self-defense is not acceptable in international law, noting that international regulations do not grant any legitimacy to the occupation’s defense against the occupied people.

Iran’s deputy foreign minister said ” Today, the world is facing the tragedy of all kinds of crimes committed by the Zionists in Gaza, ” stressing that the Zionists are holding a record of the variety of crimes and brutal killings in history.

He clarified that in addition to killing the people of Gaza, the Zionist regime has become the leader in the destruction of all international regulations and rules, therefore, international institutions, especially the mechanisms of the United Nations have a double responsibility for the crimes and aggressions of this brutal regime.

“The variety of crimes committed by the occupiers in Gaza is such that the legitimacy of international human rights mechanisms depends only on their practical action to stop the killings in Gaza,” Bagheri Kani added.

Iran’s deputy foreign minister stated that Iran will make all the efforts to stop the killing of the people of Gaza, sending humanitarian aid immediately, lifting the blockade of Gaza, and preventing the displacement of Palestinians in and out of Gaza.

“Iran is ready to interact with international organizations, including the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to fulfill these human demands,” he said.

Referring to the role and international status of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Bagheri Kani asked Volker Türk to visit Gaza to immediately stop the killing of innocent Palestinians and prevent further violations of human rights.

In this meeting, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights for his part expressed his concern about the current situation, saying that his office has played a major role in preparing reports and clarifying violations in the occupied territories in recent years.

Türk also emphasized that in his recent speech at the Human Rights Council meeting, he recommended human rights mechanisms to stop violations in the occupied areas, calling for the end of the occupation.

The High Commissioner considered the crimes of the Zionist regime unacceptable, considering it a violation of humanitarian and international law while expressing concern about the regional effects of the recent developments in Gaza.

At the end, he mentioned that he would be in contact with all parties to stop the attacks and establish a ceasefire, planning to travel to the region as well.

Kochi Flat Demolished On Supreme Court Orders, Builder Asked To Pay Rs 22 Lakh

Kochi Flat Demolished On Supreme Court Orders, Builder Asked To Pay Rs 22 Lakh

The complainants were a retired Naval officer and his wife.

Kochi:

A district consumer forum here has directed a private company to pay over Rs 20 lakh to a couple to whom it had sold a flat in Maradu here, which was later demolished on the orders of the Supreme Court.

The Ernakulam District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission directed Holy Faith Builders and Developers to refund over Rs 17 lakh to the couple as balance consideration of the flat and also Rs 5 lakh as compensation for the deficient service and unfair trade practice on the part of the realty firm.

The Commission also directed the firm to pay Rs 25,000 to the complainant couple towards the cost of litigation.

The Commission said that the Supreme Court had found that the apartment complex constructed by the builder was in violation of the law.

“This unequivocally establishes that the first opposite party’s (builder) actions amount to a deficiency in service and unfair trade practices,” it held.

The consumer forum further held that the firm “inadequately performed the service as contracted with the complainants and hence, there is a deficiency in service, negligence, and failure on the part of the first opposite party (builder) in failing to provide the complainants the desired service which in turn has caused mental agony and hardship, and financial loss, to the complainants”.

The complainants, a retired Naval officer and his wife, had bought a flat from the firm by availing a loan and claimed that they were given false assurances by the builder regarding the legality and approvals for the apartment complex constructed by it.

The Supreme Court had in 2019 directed the Kerala government to demolish the apartment complexes in Maradu that were built in violation of the coastal zone regulations.
