Hyderabad comedian Vivek Muralidharan’s hilarious take on Narayana Murthy’s ‘70-hour-week’ remark

Hyderabad: Infosys co-founder NR Narayana Murthy’s ‘70-hour week’ remark has sparked widespread discussions both online and offline. People have expressed various opinions on the feasibility of such an intense work schedule, with some criticising the idea and others supporting it. The trending topic has also led to an outpouring of jokes and memes on the internet.

Riding the wave of this discussion, Hyderabad-based comedian Vivek Muralidharan, during his recent show at Guruswamy Centre in the city, humorously decoded the concept to see if the suggestion was possible. At the beginning of the show, he requested a phone from the audience and proceeded to calculate the number of hours an individual would spend working and the remaining time available for other things.

According to the final calculation, he said that a person would only have 24 hours per week or 52 days per year for personal time. As the video went viral, many users were left amused by his humour. “Work-life balance friends,” he captioned the video on Instagram.

“What about travelling to the office up and down per day 2-3 hours. So in a week average 18 hours. The balance we have is 3 hours (sic),” a user said. “Billionaires want people to work overtime till they die! Nothing new. Modern-day slavery (sic),” another wrote.

Appearing on a podcast, Narayana Murthy said India’s work productivity is one of the lowest in the world and asked the youth to contribute towards building the culture so that India can compete effectively on the global stage.

Many internet users, including celebrities, condemned his remarks and Dr, Deepak Krishnamurthy, a Bengaluru-based cardiologist, noted that such inhumane working hours can create a whole generation with a host of heart-related comorbidities.

Bengal Governor's "Tagore An Emotion" Reminder Amid Santiniketan Row

Bengal Governor's 'Tagore An Emotion' Reminder Amid Santiniketan Row

Kolkata:

Maintaining that Rabindranath Tagore was an emotion, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose on Wednesday said that the Nobel laureate’s memory cannot be obliterated or ignored.

Mr Bose made the comment when asked by reporters about the row over the plaques installed at the Visva-Bharati, founded by Tagore, to mark the UNESCO world heritage tag.

The plaques installed at the central university’s Santiniketan campus in Birbhum district do not have Tagore’s name, but bear those of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is the chancellor, and Vice-chancellor Bidyut Chakrabarty.

“Tagore is a feeling, an emotion felt in the heart of Indians. There cannot be any instance where Gurudev’s memory is obliterated or ignored. Gurudev enjoys the highest respect in the minds of all Indians,” said Mr Bose, who is also the rector of the varsity, on the sidelines of a programme at the Raj Bhavan.

Santiniketan, where Tagore built Visva-Bharati over a century ago, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in September.

The omission of Tagore’s name led to a row between the state government and the varsity authorities following which Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee demanded immediate replacement of the plaques.

The Trinamool Congress is holding a demonstration outside the varsity demanding removal of the plaques as they do not have Tagore’s name on them.

“Established in rural West Bengal in 1901 by the renowned poet and philosopher, Rabindranath Tagore, Santiniketan was a residential school and centre for art based on ancient Indian traditions and on a vision of the unity of humanity transcending religious and cultural boundaries,” according to a UNESCO website.

Tagore set up a university there in 1921. Ten years after his death, Visva-Bharati was declared a central university and an institution of national importance by an Act of Parliament in 1951.

We have allotted over 40 percent tickets to BCs and women to contest assembly polls,” he said.

Coming down heavily on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on BJP’s decision to make a BC the Chief Minister, Laxman termed the Congress as anti-BC and said the Congress had done nothing for the upliftment of the community in the last 70 years.

Hyderabad: In an interview with Telugu daily Namaste Telangana, the director cum actor Tharun Bhascker heaped praises on Telangana government for elevating Hyderabad to a world-class city.

When asked about the changes in Hyderabad over the last decade, he expressed his delight at the city’s substantial development, crediting the government for infusing new vigour into its progress.

“Previously, people preferred Chennai or Bangalore over Hyderabad, but now they are relocating here. This is truly something to take pride in,” he affirmed.

Comparing the present state of the city to its past, Tharun remarked, “Hyderabad’s facilities have seen significant expansion. Despite the substantial influx of people seeking livelihoods, traffic issues have been notably mitigated by the government’s initiative to construct numerous flyovers.”

He also highlighted the remarkable increase in groundwater levels in Telangana, noting that in the past, one had to dig several hundred feet to access water. Now, there is an abundant supply of groundwater in the region.

Tharun also pointed out the exceptional maintenance of roads and the noticeable increase in greenery. He attributed this transformation to the successful implementation of CM KCR’s Haritha Haram program, which has given Telangana a lush and vibrant appearance today.

Make CM KCR’s Nov 5 public meeting a success, Khammam BRS leaders ask public

Minister P Ajay Kumar speaking to the media in Khammam on Thursday.

Khammam: All the three Praja Ashirwada Sabhas in erstwhile Khammam were a grand success and efforts were being made for the success of two more meetings on November 5 in Khammam and Kothagudem, said Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar.

The success of the meetings has proven the public’s support for the BRS party. There has been good response to Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s address at Palair, Sathupalli and Yellandu meetings. The public turnout was more than expected, he said.

In Khammam the Chief Minister would address the public meeting at SR & BGNR College grounds for the victory of BRS candidates contesting for 10 Assembly seats in Khammam and Kothagudem districts, Ajay Kumar said speaking to the media here on Thursday.

He appealed to the police to ensure that the Chief Minister public meeting conducted smoothly. Since it was winter, the sun sets early and the weather is not suitable for the helicopter to take off, hence people should reach the ground early.

In the past 75 years, the credit of giving ministerial post to Khammam constituency goes to Chandrashekhar Rao. Khammam witnessed massive development in the past five years. If the public gives another chance as MLA Khammam would witness more development, he said.

Sathupalli MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah said Chandrashekhar Rao has not done any injustice to Khammam district even though BRS won only one seat in the district. Ajay Kumar’s contribution in the development of Khammam city was immeasurable.

The construction of a 100-bed hospital in Sathupalli has been completed. Because of the support of the Chief Minister there was not a single mud road in Sathupalli constituency in which 80 percent roads were cement roads, he said.

BRS district president MLC, Tata Madhusudhan and MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra said that one lakh people from Khammam constituency would attend the meeting. They appealed to voters to vote for BRS candidates on November 30 and elect them with a huge majority.
