Report: Area near Damascus targeted in fresh Israeli aggression

Israel carried out new aerial aggression near the Syrian capital city of Damascus after midnight on Sunday, according to reports by media outlets affiliated with anti-Damascus militant groups.

The reports, not confirmed by the Syrian official media outlets, said the Israeli air raids took place in the town of al-Dimas, just west of Damascus.

The strikes, the reports claimed, targeted sites belonging to the Syrian army and its allies.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage caused by the assault.

On September 13, Syria’s official news agency SANA reported that two soldiers were killed and six others injured in an Israeli aggression against air defense units in the coastal city of Tartous.

Later in the day, Israeli aircraft conducted similar airstrikes on some sites in the west-central province of Hama, causing material damage.

Israel frequently has attacked the positions of Syria’s military and its allies since 2011, when the Arab country found itself in the grip of rampant foreign-backed violence and terrorism.

The regime’s raids mostly target the positions of Syria’s allies that have been aiding the country in its uphill battle against foreign-sponsored terror groups.

Damascus has repeatedly complained to the United Nations over the Israeli assaults, urging the world body’s Security Council to take action against Tel Aviv’s crimes. Its demands, however, have fallen on deaf ears.

Congress accuses Himanta of political vendetta for exposing land deals

Congress accuses Himanta of political vendetta for exposing land deals

Guwahati: The opposition leaders in Assam have alleged that the BJP has been unleashing the government machinery against the Congress leaders after they raised the corruption issue of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s family in purchasing land and allegedly receiving the Center’s subsidy for setting up an agro-processing industry in the state.

A couple of weeks ago, Ranee Narah, a former Congress MP, was questioned by the Chief Minister’s vigilance cell in a 2017 case of alleged misappropriation of MPLAD funds. When Ranee Narah was a Union minister in the Manmohan Singh cabinet, it was alleged that fund misappropriation for the installation of hand pumps in the Jorhat district occurred in the 2013-14 fiscal year.

Following a CAG report on the irregularities, a report to the Assam Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) led to the filing of a complaint in 2017 against Narah. Meanwhile, allegations of land grabbing against the former Lakhimpur MP and her husband, Bharat Narah, also have surfaced. The Narah couple has also been charged with trespassing on public property when they started a tea farm under the name Ranee Narah.

Recently, the vigilance cell launched a probe against Congress MLA Kamalakshya Dey Purkayastha in connection with the purchase of a tea garden by the legislator six months ago. The sleuths of the vigilance branch visited the home constituency of the MLA and interrogated a few people. Purkayastha is a three-time MLA from Assam’s Karimganj district and is also the working president of the Congress party in the state.

He told IANS, “The locals there had requested me to purchase the tea garden. But I did not have enough money to buy it. Later, I purchased the tea garden with the help some of my friends and associates for Rs. 3.20 crore. The land was bought with 100 per cent white money. We have the details of every penny invested.”

Purkayastha, who is an ardent critic of Himanta Biswa Sarma, alleged that he has been targeted for raising the land scam issue of the Chief Minister’s wife on the floors of the state Assembly.

He claimed, “You cannot say anything about the Chief Minister and his family’s corruption issue in Assam; otherwise, you will be targeted by the vigilance cell. This is nothing but an attempt to defame me in public.”

Bharat Narah was also critical of the alleged corruption issue of Himanta Biswa Sarma’s family. He spoke on this matter in the Assembly. Ranee Narah said, “The vigilance cell called me in an old case. However, I responded to all of the queries of the investigating officers. I am satisfied with it, and I think they were satisfied with my replies, too.”

Talking to IANS, the opposition leader in the Assam Assembly, Debabrata Saikia, said, “Our party leaders have been targeted recently. Some friends of state president Bhupen Borah were transferred recently. Some MLAs are being called for questioning. All of these started after the alleged corruption issue of the Chief Minister’s family was brought into the public domain.”

According to him, this is a pure political vendetta. “The state government can launch a probe against any individual, but the timing of these inquiries is raising a lot of questions. As the central agencies are used by the BJP in the Centre, in Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma has been using the state government machinery to run a vicious campaign against the Congress leaders,” Saikia alleged.

Aditya Dhopaokar knocked out by S. Hassan Baiqara Rasooli in Asian Games Kurash

Indian Athlete Suffers 0-10 Defeat to Afghan Opponent in Kurash Match

Hangzhou: India’s Aditya Dhopaokar’s campaign in men’s 81kg kurash lasted less than two minutes after Afghanistan’s S Hassan Baiqara Rasooli knocked him out in the pre-quarterfinals of the Asian Games here on Sunday.

The 21-year-old Indian lost 0-10 by ‘khalol’, a term used in kurash for a convincing win, as the Afghan overpowered Dhopaokar.

Such was the powerful takedown by the Afghan that Dhopaokar landed with both his shoulder blades touching the mat.

Upon review, the arbitrator awarded the Afghan athlete a ‘khalol’, ending the bout in just under two minutes.

The arbitrator announces the “appraisal in case if the throw on back is done by a beautiful and accurate motion”.

Dhopaokar began the four-minute bout on a positive note by inflicting a minor throw on Rasooli that gave him a ‘chala’ (one point). But upon the execution of ‘khalol’ by Rasooli, the Indian’s one-point lead was nullified as the Afghan set up a quarterfinal clash against No 2 seed Alali Eisa of Kuwait.

India’s campaign in kurash now rests on the shoulders of Jyoti Tokas (women’s 87kg) and Yash Chauhan (men’s 90kg), who will fight in their respective quarterfinals on Monday.

They are one win away from confirming at least a bronze in the ancient wrestling sport.

On Saturday, India’s Pincky Balhara, a silver medallist at Jakarta in 2018, was knocked out in the women’s 52kg quarterfinals.

Suchika Tariyal (women’s 52kg) and Keshav (men’s 66kg) were eliminated in the round of 32.

DPRK nuclear development

The leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Kim Jong-Un, addressed the Supreme People’s Assembly of the DPRK this week, emphasizing the country’s nuclear weapons policies.

The DPRK has been steadily developing a nuclear and missile deterrent, as it views the US as a threat, a position recently outlined by the DPRK representative at the United Nations General Assembly.

Owing to the reckless and continued hysteria of nuclear showdown on the part of the US, and its following forces, the year 2023 has been recorded as an extremely dangerous year that the military security situation in and around the Korean peninsula was driven closer to the brink of a nuclear war.

Song Kim, Permanent Representative to UN, North Korea

The DPRK Assembly unanimously supplemented the constitution to “deter war and protect regional and global peace by developing nuclear weapons to the highest level”. Politics in South Korea has motivated the North’s military buildup,

The trilateral relationship of the US, Japan, and ,South Korea, has definitely given  Kim Jong-Un reason, he thinks, to improve or enhance or increase his nuclear capability, exponentially. That was the word that he used in translation.

Don Kirk, Political Analyst

Analysts also suggest the US and its increasing Alliance relations in the region have spurred Pyongyang strive to increase its nuclear missile capabilities.

Tensions on the Korean Peninsula have increased since the election of President Yoon Suk Yeol,

Under President Yoon, who came to office in May of 2022, joint US-South Korean military exercises have resumed which Pyongyang views as a rehearsal for invasion.

South Korea has been eager to display its military buildup with its own drills as well as those with the US and earlier this week with the first military parade in a decade through central Seoul.

Dubbaka BJP MLA’s followers found distributing saris, umbrellas to woo voters

Siddipet: BJP MLA M Raghunandan Rao’s followers were found distributing bags containing an umbrella and a sari to voters in the constituency. The bag and umbrella had the MLA’s pictures and the BJP symbol of the lotus as well.

According to reports, the MLA’s followers had reached Goverdhanagiri village in Thoguta mandal on Wednesday, carrying an auto load of these bags. His men were seen visiting each and every house and handing over the bags to women. While leaving, they were reminding voters to support Raghunandan Rao in the coming elections.

Meanwhile, BRS cadre, who reached the place following information on the BJP tactics, took pictures of the activity and posted them on social media to expose the BJP. Raghunandan Rao’s followers were allegedly touring villages across Dubbaka constituency, carrying these bags in autos. BRS Thoguta mandal president Jeedipally Ram Reddy has urged the Election Commission of India to initiate action against the MLA.

Raghunandan Rao had won the 2020 by-election with a slender majority of 1,000 votes by defeating BRS candidate Solipeta Sujatha. With Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao deciding to field a strong candidate this time from Dubbaka in the form of Medak MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, Raghunandan Rao has been jittery and apparently is making efforts to influence voters.

BRS leaders were preparing to lodge a complaint with the ECI.
