KTR promises to adopt Ramagundam

Peddapalli: IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao, who participated in various developmental programmes in the Ramagundam coal belt area, has promised to adopt Ramagundam constituency and develop it on all fronts if local MLA Korukanti Chander was re-elected with a thumping majority in the next assembly election.

Stating that the last 10 years were different, the Minister said the face of the constituency would be changed in the next five years. Two candidates would be in the fray from Ramagundam segment. While a person would represent the Car (BRS), a ‘bekar’ (good for nothing) candidate would represent the other party. So, without any confusion, the people should vote for the BRS candidate, he said.

Not only MLAs, MP candidates of the BRS should also be elected since a coalition government would be formed at the Centre. If BRS has a good number of MPs in the Parliament, the party would have a chance to protect the interests of the State, he said.

Though there was a proposal to reopen Basanthnagar airport, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not taking the initiative to open it. There was a chance to reopen the airport, if the BRS had a strong presence in the Parliament, he said.

On the Government Medical College established in Godavarikhani, Rama Rao said previous governments had not sanctioned any educational institution to the coal belt town. However, the Chief Minister had sanctioned a medical college to Ramagundam which was being operated by the Singareni Collieries Company Limited. Moreover, 5 percent MBBS seats have been reserved for the children of Singareni employees.

After 10 years, Modi finally relents, announces Tribal University, Turmeric Board

After 10 years, Modi finally relents, announces Tribal University, Turmeric Board

Hyderabad: Clearly shaken by the fact that the Bharatiya Janata Party was fast losing ground in Telangana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday finally relented and gave in to two of the State’s longest standing demands since formation, for a Tribal University in Mulugu and for a National Turmeric Board.

Modi, who laid the foundation stone and dedicated to the nation multiple developmental projects worth about Rs 13,500 crore in Mahabubnagar on Sunday, announced the formation of the National Turmeric Board apart from announcing a Central Tribal University in Mulugu district. The university would be named after tribal goddesses Sammakka-Sarakka. About Rs 900 crore would be spent on the Sammakka-Sarakka Central Tribal University, he said.

Interestingly, what Modi did not mention in his speech was that the Tribal University was actually a commitment made to Telangana under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act way back in 2014 and that the State had relentlessly been requesting the Centre to move the project forward and had even allocated land. This was when Modi’s government had sanctioned and made operational a Central Tribal University in Andhra Pradesh in 2020 itself.

The political agenda behind the Turmeric Board, which the State had been demanding for long and what the BJP had promised much before the 2018 Assembly polls too, becomes clear when one recalls the Centre’s declaration during the recent monsoon session of the Parliament that it had no plans to set up turmeric boards in the State. It had instead entrusted the Spices Board with the responsibility of promoting 52 spices including turmeric.

While these two projects were without doubt an attempt on damage control after giving the very same demands the cold shoulder for 10 years, Modi tried a little more to douse the fire over the continued neglect from the Centre towards Telangana. This was by laying the foundation for and inaugurating a few other projects, including the Nagpur – Vijayawada Economic Corridor. He said economic hubs were identified in the corridor, including eight Special Economic Zones, five Mega food parks, four fishing seafood clusters, three pharma and medical clusters and one textiles cluster.

The Suryapet-Khammam section of the Hyderabad-Visakhapatnam corridor would help in reaching the East Coast. The railway line being built between Jaklair and Krishna section would also be important for the people here, he said.

The Hassan-Cherlapally LPG Pipeline Project, he claimed, would play a crucial role in providing energy security to people in the region, while the Multiproduct Petroleum Pipeline between Krishnapatnam to Hyderabad, for which he laid the foundation stone, would help in creation of jobs.

The road projects that are part of the Nagpur – Vijayawada Economic Corridor include the 108 km long ‘four-lane access controlled Greenfield highway from Warangal to Khammam section of NH-163G’ and 90 km long ‘four-lane access controlled greenfield highway from Khammam to Vijayawada section of NH-163G. These road projects will be developed at a total cost of about Rs 6,400 crore. The projects will reduce travel distance between Warangal and Khammam by about 14 km; and between Khammam and Vijayawada by about 27 km.

The Prime Minister also dedicated to the nation the ‘four laning of the 59 km long Suryapet to Khammam section of NH-365BB. Built at a cost of about Rs 2,460 crore, the project is a part of Hyderabad – Visakhapatnam Corridor and is developed under Bharatmala Pariyojana.

The Hassan-Cherlapally LPG Pipeline Project built at a cost of about Rs.2170 crore was also part of the projects launched on the day.

Changes in region's geography causes insecurity

The Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan was received for a meeting by General Ali-Akbar Ahmadian, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) on Sunday in Tehran.

In the meeting, General Ahmadian pointed to the latest developments in the Caucasus region and stressed the necessity of efforts on the part of every party to establish peace and security in the region. “Any change in the geography of the region brings insecurity and instability and escalates the crisis,” he stressed.

“It is going to be a very interesting World Cup. It’s going to be very competitive. Some teams are in really good forms and good combinations. Every country has their own star. Shubman Gill has been scoring a lot of runs. It will be a perfect opportunity for a young player like him who has been doing really well for India for the past two to three years. India’s first warm-up game against England in Guwahati was washed out due to rain. They will have one more opportunity to test their playing XI against the Netherlands on Tuesday before they open their campaign against Australia on October 8 in Chennai.

Israel waging ‘religious war’ on al-Aqsa Mosque: Hamas

The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has condemned Israel’s continued desecration and attacks on the al-Aqsa Mosque Compound in the occupied al-Quds, saying the Tel Aviv regime has launched “a religious war” against the holy site to implement its plan of dividing it by any means.

Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem made the remarks in a statement on Sunday, stressing that all the actions of the extremist Israeli cabinet in al-Aqsa and its surroundings are carried out with the aim of implementing the Judaization scheme in al-Quds, the Palestinian Information Center reported.

Qassem further noted that al-Aqsa as well as Palestinian prisoners are redlines of Hamas, adding that it will never allow the occupying regime to violate them.

He also emphasized that the movement’s redlines are not just a “slogan” but they are a fact that was proven both in the Battle of Saif al-Quds (Sword of al-Quds) and in other battles.

The Hamas official went on to say that the Israeli regime is trying to put pressure on the prisoners with the aim of breaking their resolve because the inmates and al-Aqsa are among the Palestinians’ symbols and red lines.

Qassem further stated that the crimes committed by the far-right Israeli cabinet will face a strengthened Palestinian resistance.

Early on Sunday, Israeli settlers once again broke into al-Aqsa under the protection of the regime’s forces and carried out provocative actions in the holy site.

Israeli settler incursions into al-Aqsa Mosque and violence against Palestinians have been on the rise since the far-right extremist cabinet of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took office last December.

Such mass settler break-ins almost always take place at the behest of Tel Aviv-backed temple groups and under the auspices of the Israeli police in al-Quds, leading to daily confrontations with Palestinians at the mosque, with many injured, arrested and killed.

This is while non-Muslim worship at the al-Aqsa Mosque compound is prohibited according to an agreement between the occupying Israeli regime and the Jordanian government following the regime’s illegal seizure of East al-Quds in 1967.

Also on Sunday, Israeli forces attacked Palestinian prisoners in Ramon prison, relocating all the inmates held there to Nafha Prison.

Cong sees in Danish Ali episode opportunity to reach to its lost vote bank

Political experts say that these days, the Congress is making all efforts to regain its lost votes among the minorities.

Cong sees in Danish Ali episode opportunity to reach to its lost vote bank

Lucknow: Amid the controversial row over the use of abusive language by BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri against BSP MP Danish Ali in the Parliament, Congress is busy trying to meet the BSP MP to save its lost vote bank and project itself as the party standing united with the minority community across the country, in view of Lok Sabha polls.

Political experts say that these days, the Congress is making all efforts to regain its lost votes among the minorities. It is also being seen as a political strategy by the grand old party to put pressure on the Samajwadi Party, which is part of the opposition INDIA bloc, regarding the seat distribution in Uttar Pradesh.

There was a time when the Muslim community used to vote as a whole in favour of Congress but as the grand old party became weaker, this vote bank started shifting either to the Samajwadi Party or to the Bahujan Samaj Party. Therefore, the Congress has tried to send a political message by showing solidarity with the BSP MP and upping the ante against BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri.

A senior Congress leader said, “Ahead of the 2024 general elections, the grand old party is busy ‘promoting love in the shop of hatred’ (Nafrat ke Bazaar mein Mohabbat ki Dukaan), taking a direct swipe at the BJP-led Central government. That is why when a BJP member made objectionable remarks against BSP’s Danish Ali in the Parliament, our senior leader Rahul Gandhi went there and gave the message that he stands in solidarity with every individual across the country who is being persecuted by the BJP.”

“Rahul Gandhi has been meeting poor and low-income people since the beginning of the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’. Be it a truck driver or a carpenter, he understands everyone’s pain and suffering closely. The Muslim community have always stood with Congress. Congress has given a lot of importance to these people. Regional parties have used them merely as a vote bank. If they had been so sympathetic, then they would have stood with Danish Ali. But here as well, Congress is seen standing in solidarity with the BSP MP.”

On the other hand, Congress leaders are confident that Muslims will unite and vote in favour of Congress in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Danish Ali was fielded by the BSP from Muslim-dominated seat Amroha in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Sources say that Mayawati is unhappy with Danish Ali’s growing proximity towards the Congress. For this reason, she is not even giving him (Ali) time to meet them (Congress leaders). When the Parliament incident took place, the BSP supremo had shown her support by tweeting in favour of her party MP Danish Ali.

Speculations are rife that this time Danish Ali may leave the BSP and join Congress.

Congress is also trying to bring various Muslim leaders from other parties into its fold.

Senior political analyst Ratan Mani Lal, who has closely followed the politics of Uttar Pradesh for many decades, says that in the meantime, BSP chief Mayawati has softened her stand on the BJP.

However, previously, Danish Ali had objected to the slogan of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ in Amroha and created ruckus.

Even though Mayawati has been soft towards the BJP, Danish Ali wants to maintain a distance from the saffron party.

Meanwhile, there were reports that efforts were being made by the Congress to take BSP into the INDIA bloc to keep the Samajwadi Party under control. However, nothing has been confirmed or denied by the Congress or BSP.

When Ramesh Bidhuri made objectionable remarks against Danish Ali in the Parliament, it emerged that the statement on the BSP MP was not made since he was from the BSP but because he belongs to the minority community.

Mayawati did not condemn the incident as vociferously as she shows support on other issues.

Ratan Mani Lal says: “Danish Ali is now feeling disgruntled within the BSP. At present, Muslims will not be given as significant role in the BSP as they used to get given the party’s new strategy being adopted towards Dalits and Backward Classes. Danish is seeing an opportunity to accomplish his goal in the closed door meetings which are taking place between Congress and BSP. Congress seems to be in favour of Danish Ali to bring the Muslim community back into its fold. The Samajwadi Party is not even getting that much importance from the Muslim vote bank that’s why the Congress is seeing an opportunity in it.”

Senior political analyst Virendra Singh Rawat says that ever since the opposition INDIA bloc was formed, Congress has been meeting different sections of the society. The grand old party wants to regain lost political ground by wooing back the Dalit or Muslim vote. Congress feels that if it continues to stand with BSP MP Danish Ali, a message will go to the Muslim community that it fights for the rights of Muslims, no matter which party they belong to, ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections next year.

Uttar Pradesh Congress spokesperson C.P. Rai said: “What happened with Danish Ali is the use of abusive language against the minority community. We want to stand with Danish and tell him that someone has used vulgar words against you, but the whole country is with you. The decision on ticket distribution in the opposition INDIA bloc and Assembly elections has to be taken by the party’s central leadership.”

Asian Games, Athletics: Tajinderpal Singh Toor Defends Shot Put Gold

Shot-putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor defended his title with an amazing final throw to beat back the challenge from his Saudi Arabian rival in Hangzhou on Sunday while Avinash Sable became the first Indian man to win the gold medal in 3000m steeplechase at the Asian Games. Toor, the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games gold medallist, came up with a mighty throw of 20.36 metres on his sixth and last attempt to overhaul his Saudi rival Mohamed Daouda Tolo’s distance of 20.18 metres.

Toor, however, could not break his own Asian Games record of 20.75m set in 2018 Jakarta. But the 28-year-old’s final throw was way too good for his Saudi rival to overhaul in his final attempt.

Sable, the 29-year-old national record holder, earned India its first gold medal in athletics, completing the race in 8:19.50 seconds.

Sable rewrote the previous Asian Games record of 8:22.79 held in the name of Iran’s Hossein Keyhani set at the 2018 Jakarta Games.

Sudha Singh had won a gold in women’s 3000m steeplechase in the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou.

In the 1500m for women, India’s Harmilan Bains won a silver while Ajay Kumar Saroj and Jinson Johnson won silver and bronze respectively in the men’s 1500m.

Earlier, the toast of the nation in the last edition, Indian heptathlete Swapna Barman’s one “last shot” at glory at the Asian Games turned into a nightmare as she struggled with injuries to virtually go out of medal reckoning after the javelin throw event.

The defending champion, who boasts of a personal best of 52.55m in javelin throw, managed a throw of just 45.13 in the penultimate event of the gruelling two-day competition.

Javelin throw was one of the two events Swapna had won in 2018 en route to becoming the first Indian heptathlete to win an Asian Games gold.

Overall, Swapna was ranked fourth with 4840 points, 11 points behind her nearest rival Jingyi Liu of China ahead of the 800m race, which is the last segment of the seven-event competition.

The other Indian in the fray, Nandini Agasara notched a personal best of 39.88m in javelin throw that took her overall ranking to fifth place.

Earlier in the day, Swapna Barman leapt 5.71m in the long jump, while Nandini Agasara had a season-best 5.94m jump.

With her career ravaged by a spinal injury, the six-toed Indian athlete had contemplated retirement last year. But she took one last shot at glory and came to Hanghzou in her title defence bid.

This year she won the Inter-State meet and also bagged a silver medal in the build-up to the Asian Games. She also avoided surgery so as to ensure that she does not miss her training despite a bad back.

“But her body condition could not cope up and she failed to get a good start,” her coach Subhash Sarkar told PTI.

“She was expecting a good result in high jump but a fourth place finish shattered her and she couldn’t recover from there,” he added.

Swapna had a jump of 1.70m, which was nowhere close to her personal best of 1.87.

“The poor start has affected her morale and it showed in today’s javelin throw event. It’s as good as over,” Sarkar said of Swapna’s prospects this time.

Earlier, India’s Amlan Borgohain finished at the third position after clocking 21.08 seconds in the men’s 200m heats and advanced to the semifinal.

The first three athletes in each heat make the cut for the semi-finals. The top four times from all the heats who have not made the cut will also advance to the semifinals.

The sprinter from Assam, currently the country’s fastest, holds both the men’s 100m and 200m national records.

However, Jyothi Yarraji failed to make the cut for the women’s 200m final. The Indian had a timing of 23.78s.

Yarraji, however, is in contention for a medal in women’s 100m hurdles.
