CPI (Maoist) conspiracy case: NIA carries out raids at 62 locations in Telangana and AP, arrests one

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday arrested a top Maoist leader as it carried out raids at 62 locations across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in the CPI (Maoist) conspiracy case, an official said.

The day-long searches, which were conducted mostly in Andhra Pradesh, also led to the recovery of weapons, cash
and incriminating documents, a spokesperson of the federal agency said.

Chandra Narasimhulu, a state executive committee member of the Pragathiseela Karmika Samakya (PKS), was arrested from Satya Sai district of Andhra Pradesh, the spokesperson said.

A pistol with 14 rounds was seized from the location and an amount of 13 lakh was seized from one of the premises in Kadapa district, the NIA said, adding Maoist literature and documents were seized from other locations.

The raids covered 53 locations in Guntur, Palanadu, Vijayawada, Rajhmundry, Prakasam, Bapatla, Eluru, East Godavari, D R Ambedkar Konaseema, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Nellore, Tirupati, Kadapa, Sathya Sai, Anantapur and Kurnool districts in Andhra Pradesh.

Nine locations were raided in Telangana’s Hyderabad, Mahabub Nagar, Hanumakonda, Ranga Reddy and Adilabad districts.

The spokesperson said Narasimhulu’s custodial interrogation is expected to yield further information about the conspiracy relating to attempts by various frontal organisations to further the activities of the proscribed outfit CPI (Maoist).

The frontal organisations include Civil Liberties Committee (CLC), Amarula Bandhu Mitrula Sangham (ABMS), Chaitanya Mahila Sangham (CMS), Kula Nirmulana Porata Samathi (KNPS), Patriotic Democratic Movement (PDM), Pragathiseela Karmika Samakya (PKS), Praja Kala Mandali (PKM), Revolutionary Writers Association (RWA) or Viplava Rachaitala Sangam (VIRASAM), Human Rights Forum (HRF), Committee for the Release of Political Prisoners (CRPP) and Indian Association of Peoples Lawyers (IAPL).

“The investigations so far have revealed that leaders and members of these frontal organisations were extending support to the CPI (Maoist), which was banned as a terrorist outfit in 2009. The premises raided belonged to members and cadres of the frontal organisations,” the spokesperson said.

The case was initially registered by the Munchingputu police of Alluri Sitharamaraju district on November 23, 2020
based on information relating to the movement of Maoists and transportation of their literature.

Police had intercepted one Pangi Naganna, who was carrying Maoist revolutionary literature books, medicines, a red cloth banner, electrical wire bundles, Nippo batteries and pamphlets to hand over to the Maoist cadres.

Detailed interrogation of Naganna revealed that the items were given to him by the leaders of the frontal organisations, the NIA spokesperson said.

On May 21, 2021, the NIA filed a charge sheet against seven accused before a special court in Vijayawada. Of these, five belonged to frontal organisations — ABMS, CMS, PKS, PDM and PKM.

New Delhi:

Civil aviation regulator DGCA has proposed a draft that may bar pilots and crew from using perfumes during the breathalyzer test.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has come up with the draft since perfumes generally have a high alcohol content and can affect the breathalyzer test.

“No crew member shall consume any medicine/formulation or use any substance such as mouthwash/tooth gel/perfume or any product containing alcohol which may result in a positive breathalyzer test. Any crew member who is undergoing such medication shall consult the company doctor before undertaking a flying assignment,” the draft, accessed by news agency ANI, read.

“This is only a draft CAR (Civil Aviation Requirements) put in the public domain for stakeholder comments,” the DGCA chief said.

Airlines in India and DGCA are very strict about breathalyzer tests before any operation and the tests are always done under camera surveillance.

Telangana’s IT sector surges beyond Hyderabad

Suryapet IT Tub was inaugurated by IT Minister KT Rama Rao on Monday.

Hyderabad: Telangana is perhaps the only State in the country that has set up eight IT Towers in tier I and II cities and towns as part of its plans to expand the IT sector beyond Hyderabad and these initiatives are already paying rich dividends.

More so, motivated by the State government’s vision, a few companies have also established their units outside the IT tower campuses.

As a result, there is lot of IT buzz at Warangal, Khammam, Karimnagar, Mahabubnagar, Siddipet and Nizamabad. Two new towers at Nalgonda and Suryapet were inaugurated by IT Minister KT Rama Rao on Monday.

The Telangana government’s vision to expand the IT sector beyond Hyderabad and into tier I and II cities was working positively. In fact, it was happening much faster than expected, said Vijay Rangineni, CEO – IT Investments, Telangana.

Already, 75 companies were conducting their operations at these towers and this aided in generating employment to about 12,500 youth. About 30 companies have evinced interest in setting up their units at the newly inaugurated Nalgonda and Suryapet towers.

This was mainly after the IT Minister interacted with NRI CEOs in Washington DC and other places, during his recent trips into United States and other countries. He had briefed them about the growth of IT sector in tier-II cities and the ecosystem created by the State government.

The IT tower at Warangal was already housing prominent companies like Tech Mahindra, Cyient and Genpact among others. This apart, LTI Mindtree, Genpact, HRH Next, and Hexad Solutions Private Limited have established their units at different towers.

All the units in tier II cities are conventional companies involved in IT and ITES services. Most of these companies are into accounts, insurance, finance, product design, IT consultancy, strategic consultancy and IT recruitment operations.

The State government’s move to expand IT sector beyond Hyderabad has motivated a few companies to set up their units individually in different districts. For instance, Sanatana Analytics is successfully operating its unit at Bellampally and there are a couple of companies, which have opened their units at Kodad and Parakala.

The State government has created conducive atmosphere for the companies, besides training youth in skill development as per the managements’ requirements. Besides facilitating in availability of talented workforce, this initiative was helping the managements to cut down their operations cost as rents are cheaper compared to Metro cities.

Another advantage of expanding the IT sector to tier II cities was the spin of economy. After many youngsters, especially locals, getting employed in different companies, they were investing heavily in owning plots or buying automobiles.

Next in the pipeline

After the IT Tower at Malakpet, the next one is coming up at Adilabad. The State Government under its ICT policy and Rural Technology Policy is developing IT Tower at Battisavargaon village, Manalapan mandal in Adilabad. To this effect, the district administration has identified three acres in survey no 72 of Battisavargaon village.

The State Government has accorded administrative sanction of Rs 40 crore for construction of the IT tower with a built space of 48,000 square feet. Already, NTT Data Solutions and BDNT Labs are operating from Adilabad.

''I Have Nothing To Do With It'': Tom Hanks Warns About His AI Version Used In Dental Ad

''AI Version Of Me, Have Nothing To Do With It'': Tom Hanks Warns About Ad

Veteran Hollywood actor Tom Hanks has warned his fans about an AI version of himself used in an advertisement for a dental plan. The Oscar-winner actor took to Instagram to post a computer-generated image that eerily looks similar to him and stressed that he has ”nothing to do with it”.

”BEWARE!! There’s a video out there promoting some dental plan with an AI version of me. I have nothing to do with it, ” the 67-year-old actor wrote on the photo of his AI counterpart from the clip. The image has been used in the advertisement without his consent.

Here is the post:

Mr Hanks has previously spoken about the usage of artificial intelligence and deepfake technology in the creative industries. In May, when he was a guest on the ‘‘Adam Buxton Podcast”, he spoke about impact of AI in movies. He said that he could keep appearing in new movies after he dies with artificial intelligence technology.

”Anybody can now recreate themselves at any age they are by way of AI or deep fake technology. I could be hit by a bus tomorrow and that’s it, but my performances can go on and on and on. And outside of the understanding that it’s been done by AI or deepfake, there’ll be nothing to tell you that it’s not me and me alone. And it’s going to have some degree of lifelike quality. And that is certainly an artistic challenge, but it’s also a legal one,” he said.

Mr Hanks also shared that people in the industry are now talking about how to protect actors from the effects of technology.

“I can tell you that there are discussions going on in all of the guilds, all of the agencies, and all of the legal firms in order to come up with the legal ramifications of my face and my voice and everybody else’s being our intellectual property,” the actor shared.

In 2004, he starred as a digitally animated version of himself in the Christmas movie ‘The Polar Express’. He was also de-aged in scenes in the 2022 film ‘A Man Called Otto.’

This year, the renowned actor also published his debut novel called ‘The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece’. The book is based on “a wildly ambitious story of the making of a colossal, star-studded, multimillion-dollar superhero action film, and the humble comic book that inspired it all”, according to the official synopsis. It was released on May 9 and received mixed reviews.
