Hyderabad: Glenn Maxwell showcased his wide range of shots during his 71-ball 77 (4×4, 6×6) while Josh Inglis, with a 30-ball 48, provided a much-needed impetus at the death as Australia posted 351/7 in the ICC Men’s World Cup warm-up game against Pakistan at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal, Hyderabad on Tuesday.

Cameroon Green (50 not out) also played a measured innings that allowed the batters around him to express themselve. Earlier, experienced David Warner and Mitchell Marsh laid a strong foundation adding 83 runs for the opening wicket in just 12 overs. Warner was quick to get off the blocks. He took special liking to Haris Rauf hitting the bowler for two sixes off his first over. Marsh too joined him smashing Wasim for a six and a boundary in the next over as Australia raced to 64/0 in the first 10 overs.

However, Australia suffered twin blows losing both openers in quick succession. Usama Mir picked both the wickets. While Warner (48 off 33 4×4, 3×6) was caught at the long-on in the 13th over, Marsh (31 off 48 2×4, 2×6) edged the bowler in the next over to first slip Iftikhar Ahmed.

Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne rebuilt the innings afterwards. When it looked like the team from Down Under taking control, Mohammed Nawaz dismissed Labuschagne with a beautiful delivery that pitched on stumps and took an outside edge off the batter to wicketkeeper Mohammad Haris. Labuschagne added 59 runs with Smith for the third wicket.

In the next over, Smith too departed edging Rauf to wicketkeeper as Australia were reduced to 153/4. Alex Carey too departed as run out in the 30th over cheaply. But Maxwell was enterprising during his innings. He pulled Nawaz for a six over mid-wicket and hit another with a switch hit in the 34th over.

He reached his half-century after pulling Shadab over mid-wicket for a maximum. His domination was such that in 83 runs he added with Green, Maxwell scored 68 of them. However, trying for another switch hit, Maxwell (77 off 71; 4×4, 6×4) was dismissed after ballooning it to Babar Azam in the 41st over.

After his wicket, Josh Inglis continued the onslaught. He smashed a 30-ball 48 (8×4, 1×6) and added 83 runs with Green in just 48 deliveries before departing in the penultimate over. Green remained unbeaten on 50. For Pakistan, only Usama Mir scalped two wickets.

Briefs Scores: Australia: 351/7 in 50 overs (Glenn Maxwell 77, Cameron Green 50 no; Usama Mir 2/31)

UK Visa Fee Hike Comes Into Effect This Week, Will Impact Indians Too

UK Visa Fee Hike For Visitors Comes Into Effect This Week, Will Impact Indians Too

UK visa fee: The Home Office indicated a 15% increase in the cost of work and visit visas.

London:

A proposed visa fee hike announced by the British government will become effective from Wednesday, when a visit visa for under six months will cost GBP 15 more and student visas will be GBP 127 more expensive for travellers from around the world, including Indians.

Following the legislation tabled in Parliament last month, the UK Home Office said the changes mean that the cost for a visit visa for less than six months will rise to GBP 115 and the fee for applying for a student visa from outside the UK will rise to GBP 490 – to equal the amount charged for in-country applications.

“It is right and fair to increase visa application fees so we can fund vital public services and allow wider funding to contribute to public sector pay,” a Home Office spokesperson said.

It comes after British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak had announced in July that the fees and health surcharge paid towards the UK’s state-funded National Health Service (NHS) by visa applicants are set to rise “significantly” to meet the country’s public sector wage increase.

“We are going to increase the charges that we have for migrants who are coming to this country when they apply for visas and indeed something called the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS), which is the levy that they pay to access the NHS,” he said at the time.

“All of those fees are going to go up and that will raise over GBP 1 billion, so across the board visa application fees are going to go up significantly and similarly for the IHS,” he said.

The Home Office indicated a 15 per cent increase in the cost of most work and visit visas, and an increase of at least 20 per cent in the cost of priority visas, study visas and certificates of sponsorship.

“Income from fees charged plays a vital role in the Home Office’s ability to run a sustainable immigration and nationality system. Careful consideration is given when setting fees to help reduce the funding contribution from British taxpayers, whilst continuing to provide a service that remains attractive to those wishing to work in the UK and support broader prosperity for all,” the Home Office said.

The hike in fees applies across most visa categories, including fees for up to six months, two, five and 10-year visit visas; the majority of fees for entry clearance and certain applications for leave to remain in the UK, including those for work and study; fees for indefinite leave to enter and indefinite leave to remain; health and care visa; fees in relation to certificates of sponsorship and confirmation of acceptance for studies; and applications to register and naturalise as a British Citizen.

A proposed increase to the IHS for funds towards the NHS is scheduled to be introduced later in the year.

“Increasing visa fees for people making their home in the UK is unfair, divisive and dangerous, especially during a cost-of-living crisis that is making life tougher for all of us. High visa costs are already leaving families without cash for essentials, living month to month just to save for a visa,” said the UK’s Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants (JCWI).

Maharashtra Hospital Where 24 Died Has 24 Neonatal ICU Beds, But 65 Were Treated: Doctor

The doctor said at least 90 beds are needed only for the general ward.

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

A total of 65 patients were being treated at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Maharashtra government’s facility in Nanded against the sanctioned strength of 24 beds when 11 infants died at the NICU between Sep 30 and October 1, a senior doctor said on Tuesday.

As many as 24 deaths, including of 12 infants, occurred at the Dr Shankarrao Chavan Government Medical College and Hospital in Nanded in 24 hours between September 30 and October 1, state health department officials had said.

A senior doctor at the facility told PTI on Tuesday that the number of admissions in the NICU was 65 against the sanctioned strength of 24 beds when 11 infants died. Another infant died in the Paediatrics Intensive Care Unit (PICU).

Dr Kishor Rathod, who heads the Paediatrics department at the Nanded facility, denied that the shortage of medicine was the likely cause behind the deaths of the infant patients.

“Out of the eleven deaths that occurred in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), eight (infants) were referrals who were shifted here at a very critical stage. They weighed below 1,000 grams,” he added.

He said another ward- the Paediatrics Intensive Care Unit (PICU)- at this facility has a capacity of 31 beds but we were treating 32 patients.

Dr Rathod further said the Nanded facility had recorded some last-minute referrals (on September 30 and October 1) but no patient was denied admission.

“Considering both the wards, a total of 156 children were admitted of which 96 were in the PICU and NICU together when the deaths occurred,” Dr Rathod said.

He said at least 90 beds are needed only for the general ward even though the number of admissions is much more.

Dr Shankarrao Chavan Government Medical College and Hospital Dean Dr S R Wakode had told reporters that the 12 infants, who died, comprised six males and six females. Most of them were in the 0-3 day age group and had “very low weight”.

A three-member expert committee from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district has been formed with a mandate to submit a report on Tuesday, an official said.

Air Chief Marshal Chaudhari also said that the IAF is constantly monitoring the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), especially in eastern Ladakh.

The Indian Air Force is celebrating its 91st anniversary on October 8 with the theme-“IAF-airpower beyond boundaries”

“Keeping with the new tradition, this year’s air display will be held in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. IAF will showcase its strength and diversity of air assets over the scenic surroundings of the Sangam area,” said an IAF official.

The official added that about 120 aircraft of various types ranging from heritage aircraft like Tigermoth and Harvard to the newly inducted C-295 will be participating in different formations and displays.

Under the guidance of the priest, Madhu took part in the worship conducted on the shores of the river on Sunday. It was learnt that Madhu collapsed while being taken to the river for a bath after the ritual. His body was brought back at night. Upon learning about the incident, police rushed to the place where the final rites of the body were going to be held. Post-mortem was carried out at the river.

Parents expressed disinterest to lodge a complaint. Photographs of the worship were widely circulated on WhatsApp and Facebook.
