Hangzhou: Pakistan’s ace javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem on Tuesday pulled out of the final of the men’s javelin throw event in the Asian Games due to an injury.

A press release from Pakistan’s Athletics team stated that Arshad, who took part in the first training session on September 27, complained to Dr. Asad Abbas that he had been grappling with persistent pain for several months after arriving in Hangzhou.

“On October 2, he again complained of pain in the right knee and expressed a desire to undergo an evaluation to determine the impact on his ability to participate in the Javelin Throw event at the Asian Games,” read the release from Pakistan’s Athletics team.

The chief medical officer of the Pakistan Contingent recommended a comprehensive check-up. Arshad underwent a thorough medical examination, including a non-invasive test i.e. MRI at a local hospital here in Hangzhou.

The MRI revealed a chronic injury that he has been carrying and after consulting the medical personnel, Arshad, careful not to hinder his training for the Paris Olympics 2024, decided not to participate in the men’s final in the Asian Games.

The men’s javelin final in the ongoing Hangzhou Games was to be the stage for Indian Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra and Pakistan’s Commonwealth Games champion to resume their rivalry.

Last week, Neeraj acknowledged that while all the focus and media attention would be on his rivalry with Nadeem during the men’s javelin throw final, he will be focused on competing with himself and getting better at his technique and throw in the title event.

“Whenever Arshad has competed with me, I have won. But my focus is always on giving off my best and not on who I am playing against. In athletics, you compete with yourself and push yourself to do your best. I am aware that there is a lot of focus on my rivalry with Arshad at the Asian Games as there are no European athletes in fray. However, my fight is against myself. I have to better my technique and throw. Rest, we will see,” Neeraj told media persons in Hangzhou earlier.

The final of the men’s javelin throw event in the Asian Games will take place on Wednesday.

Fatty liver may up risk of personality disorders by 3x: Study

London: People with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) are around three times more likely to have a personality disorder than those without the disease, a new study has revealed.

NAFLD is a global health problem and multi-faceted disease, with the main risk factors being obesity and insulin resistance.

Whilst in its early stages there may be few symptoms, the disease can progress to cirrhosis and liver failure in at risk individuals such as diabetics.

Scientists at the University of Birmingham in the UK call for NAFLD patients to be screened for personality disorders.

If identified, these mental health disorders should be treated before the patients begin trying to control their diet and exercise more, they said.

“Finding an increased prevalence of personality disorders in NAFLD patients is particularly striking — signifying that it’s not an issue associated with all liver disease, but just those with NAFLD,” said Jonathan Catling, co-author of the study.

“Importantly, it appears not to be a general mental health issue, as neither anxiety nor depression were found to be significantly different between the groups – despite both psychiatric disorders often being associated with chronic liver disease,” Catling added.

The study, published in the journal BMC Gastroenterology, also notes that, although simple measures such as changes in diet and increased exercise are proven to prevent disease progression in NAFLD, it is often difficult to persuade patients to follow dietary and exercise programmes.

“Our findings suggest an urgent need to examine attitudes towards diet and exercise so that we can better understand how to motivate NAFLD patients and deliver more effective treatment – preventing disease recurrence after liver transplantation,” said Catling.

Researchers suggest necessary changes to diet and exercise regime that prevent disease progression into the more serious, irreversible stages of the disease.

New Delhi: Tata Technologies has settled with capital markets regulator Sebi a case pertaining to alleged violation of guidelines on disclosure and investor protection after paying a settlement amount of Rs 25 lakh.

The order came after Tata Technologies filed a suomotu settlement application with Sebi proposing to settle “by neither admitting nor denying any conclusions” the enforcement proceedings that may be initiated against it for the alleged violation of DIP (Disclosure and Investor Protection) guidelines.

“It is hereby ordered that any proceedings that may be initiated for the violations… are settled in respect of the applicant (Tata Technologies), the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) said in its settlement order passed on September 27.

The company made preferential allotments multiple times during the period from December 27, 2000 to March 13, 2008.

NCLT had in May disposed of the compounding petition by passing an order in terms of which, compounding was approved, subject to the applicant paying compounding fees of Rs 3.42 crore.
