Hangzhou: The Indian men’s badminton team scripted history by securing a medal at the Asian Games after 37 years as they destroyed Nepal 3-0 in the quarterfinals in Hangzhou on Friday.

On the back of a stunning performance from their shuttlers, the Indian team without breaking a sweat cruised into the semifinals of the 19th Asian Games. Lakshya Sen began it off, Kidambi Srikanth followed and Mithun Manjunath completed it off, all in straight games without any trouble.

In the first match of the tie, Lakshya Sen defeated Prince Dahal 21-5, 21-8 to give India a 1-0 lead. Later in the second match of the tie, former World No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth in a straight set defeated Sunil Joshi 21-4, 21-13.

The Nepal shuttler was not any match to the Indian in terms of skillset. Joshi was only able to score all four points in the first game and handed an easy win to Kidambi. The second set of the match saw a little bit of a fightback from Joshi but it was not enough to stop Kidambi raced away to a comfortable win in the match.

In the third game of the tie, Mithun Manjunath overpowered Bishnu Katuwal 21-2, 21-7 to seal a place in the semifinals for his team. Dominant Manjunath left no stone unturned in assuring India a place in the semis. They will face the winner between Indonesia and Korea in the semifinal for a spot in the final.

Meanwhile, Indian women’s badminton team was knocked out in the quarterfinals of the team competition in Hangzhou. India registered a disappointing 3-0 loss to Thailand in their QF match.

Britney Spears’ dancing with knives invites cops at her house

Los Angeles: Pop icon Britney Spears’ latest dancing clip – which sees her twirling around in a bikini while brandishing “fake” kitchen knives – has reportedly resulted in a welfare check from her local police department.

In the upload from earlier this week, Britney danced with a replica butcher’s blade in each hand, reports Mirror.co.uk. She incorporated the tools into her choreography while her two dogs looked on in the background.

The pop star wrote in her caption: “I started playing in the kitchen with knives today.”

Not long ago, reports surfaced that Britney has a ‘fascination’ with knives. The reports started in May, but came back up after her divorce from Sam Asghari.

Now, TMZ reports that “out of an abundance of caution,” deputies from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department sent cops to check in on the ‘Toxic’ singer after they received a call expressing concern for her. “Britney was home, and deputies were able to speak with her and determine she was OK … so they left,” the source revealed.

As per Mirror.co.uk, another insider claimed that several people expressed concern for Britney after the clip was shared on her Instagram page. Allegedly, one of the cops who visited her performed a welfare check on her in the past was “alarmed” to have to visit again.

The footage has since attracted attention on social media platforms including Reddit. A thread about the post featured fans expressing concern, including one who wrote about the video: “Unhinged. This is the most disturbing one yet.”

In the said video, Britney wore white bikini bottoms and an orange polkadot crop top in the video. She left her feet bare and accessorised with a black choker. Her hair was worn in a half-up do, but otherwise flowed long and messy, cascading down her shoulders. Britney added in the caption: “Don’t worry they are NOT real knives !!! Halloween is soon !!!”

She added in the disclaimer after the original video was posted. Still, the knives were shining like real blades and added a true dramatic effect to her video.

Occupiers remain silent towards Afghanistan problems

Hassan Kazemi Qomi, the Iranian president’s special envoy for Afghanistan who is also the Iranian ambassador to Kabul, represented Iran in the Moscow Format meeting in Kazan.

Addressing the format, Qomi said “Rich Afghanistan and its zealous people have suffered irreparable losses. Today, the occupying forces – the United States of America and its allied forces – have remained silent in the face of all the problems they caused to Afghanistan and its honorable people with their inappropriate interference.”

“From the Islamic Republic of Iran’s perspective, it is essential that Afghanistan’s neighboring countries strive with unity, benevolence, and altruism, and adopt a collective and same stance to create conditions so that the region can get through the difficult path of fighting its challenges without relying on foreign elements,” the Iranian diplomat added.

He added that the current interim Taliban government in Afghanistan needs to try to fulfill a number of duties, including meeting the needs of all ethnic groups living in Afghanistan, Afghan refugees in neighboring countries, as well as tackling the problems of internal migration of ethnic groups, guaranteeing the rights of different ethnic and linguistic groups, and gender equality.

“Almost 2 years have passed since the complete withdrawal of the foreign occupying forces led by American terrorists from Afghanistan and assuming power by the Taliban, and this country is facing the consequences of two decades of occupation by the Western Axis, including a serious economic and humanitarian crisis,” the Iranian envoy further pointed out.

Telangana: Teacher designs helmet with warning lights to help hearing-impaired motorists

Telangana: Teacher designs helmet with warning lights to help hearing-impaired motorists

Khammam: Moved at the plight of hearing impaired motorists who often face accidents as they cannot hear the horn sound of vehicles behind, an innovator has designed a smart helmet, which assists motorists in safe driving.

A hearing impaired and orthopaedically handicapped man, Shaik Rajalipasha of Subhash Nagar of Yellandu mandal in Kothagudem district is the innovator who designed the helmet. He is working as a school assistant at Zilla Parishad High School, Gollapadu, Polepalli in Khammam. Though he cannot hear he is not speech impaired.

He designed the smart helmet as part of Telangana government’s Intinta Innovator campaign undertaken by Telangana State Innovation Cell (TSIC) and launched by IT minister KT Rama Rao aiming at promoting innovation among rural students and youths across the State.

Interacting with Telangana Today Rajalipasha said he often read news of deaf and dumb persons dying in road accidents and one of his deaf and dumb friends died in a road accident as a vehicle hit his bike from behind. He also broke one of his hands in an accident in 2018.

“Those incidents inspired me to design a helmet with a safety feature that can assist hearing-impaired persons and to save their lives. I started working on making the helmet in 2021 by procuring the material required online. I used computer spare parts and it took nearly two years to make the helmet 100 per cent functional by examining about 50 types of electronic devices”, Rajalipasha said.
When a deaf and dumb person rides a two-wheeler wearing the smart helmet, a red light on the front of the helmet lights up when the vehicles behind them honk. Seeing the light, the bike rider can know there is a vehicle coming behind them. They look at the side mirrors and give way to the vehicle behind.

This helmet works on the basis of sound and radio waves coming from the rear vehicle’s horn. There is a light and with deaf and dumb signs on the back of the helmet to indicate a bike rider the vehicle in front is driven by a hearing-impaired man. The helmet also helps deaf and dumb persons get a driving license, he explained.

Rajalipasgha informed that the TSIC selected the helmet for Intinta Innovator Exhibition-2023 and presented him a certificate of appreciation. The TSIC also provided the required assistance and guidance. He said that if the government supports him he can make the helmet available to all hearing impaired persons.

Gavaskar's India XI For WC Opener vs Australia Doesn't Have These Stars

The highly anticipated ODI Word Cup 2023 will kick-start from October 5 with defending champions England taking on New Zealand in the opening match at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Team India will open their campaign against Australia on October 8 in Chennai. Before squaring off against each other in their World Cup openers, both the teams played a three-match ODI series, where India emerged victorious 2-1. As the World Cup is just around the corner, all the teams are taking their flight to India.

Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar has now named his India playing XI for their world cup opener against Australia.

“In any team, the top-three batters are quite important. A good start from the openers helps the others that follow to play freely. The contribution from the opening pair is going to crucial. You may pick three fast bowlers – Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

“If they want to go with two seamers since they already have Hardik Pandya then an extra spinner can be included. You can have Ashwin in the eleven,” he added.

The notable absentees from Gavaskar’s ideal XI were Ishan Kishan and Suryakuamr Yadav.

On the other hand, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan stated that the Men in Blue should go ahead with five proper bowlers as due factor may play an important role.

“I agree with the top-seven. (But) I want the Indian team to go with proper five bowlers. You have Hardik as sixth bowler but you should go with bowlers having wicket-taking abilities. The pitches you will get now, there’s a possibility of dew so then you need to have a solid bowling throughout the world cup,” said Irfan.

“So go with main bowlers be it three fast bowlers that include Siraj, Shami and Bumrah. If you want someone to team up with Kuldeep Yadav then go with a proper bowler in Jadeja if it’s on a turning track. Go with proper bowlers who only think about wickets. Your top-7 batters can take care of the runs,” he added.

Earlier on Thursday, the Indian men’s cricket team reached Guwahati ahead of the Cricket World Cup 2023 warm-up match against England on September 30.

Sunil Gavaskar’s Playing XI: Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah.

Hyderabad’s weather roller coaster: City likely to receive more showers

Hyderabad: Of late, Hyderabad has been experiencing a peculiar weather pattern.

The city is grappling with high humidity levels, leaving the denizens sweating it out for the past few days. However, the silver lining comes towards the late afternoon and evening hours when the weather takes an abrupt turn, offering some much-needed respite.

With maximum temperatures consistently crossing the scorching 32 degree Celsius mark, the city has seen its fair share of discomfort. The humidity levels only exacerbate the situation. Yet, as the day progresses towards the evening, a transformation unfolds.

Thick clouds begin to form and thunderstorm activity becomes a common sight. This rain, although brief, brings temporary relief from the heat.

On Friday, the average daytime temperature in the city settled at a high 34 degrees Celsius, with Secunderabad recording 37.2 degrees Celsius. However, throughout the day, dark clouds made sporadic appearances, hinting at the impending change.

In the evening, showers arrived, with Shaikpet recording 40.8 mm of rain by 4 pm, followed by Musheerabad with 28.8 mm, Kurmaguda with 9 mm, and Asmanghad with 7.8 mm.

The Telangana State Development Planning Society forecast that the rains are likely to continue with this unpredictable pattern. On Saturday, Hyderabad is expected to receive scattered light rains. Starting from October 1, a decrease in rainfall is expected in the city.
