NIMS creates record by conducting 100 kidney transplants in 8 months



Hyderabad: The transplant surgeons at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) have created a record by successfully completing 100 kidney transplants within a short span of just 8 months in this year. All the 100 kidney transplants, out of which 61 were living related and 39 were deceased donor transplants, were conducted free of cost for needy patients through State-run Aarogyasri Health Insurance scheme.

Of the 100 transplants, the surgeons also conducted 2 paediatric transplants with recipients aged just 11 and 12 years, which is a rarity in itself. So far, the NIMS hospital surgeons has conducted nearly 1600 kidney transplants out of which 1, 000 transplants have been conducted since statehood, Head, Urology, NIMS, Dr Rahul Devraj said.

State Health Minister, T Harish Rao was all praise for hospital surgeons. “NIMS hospital is showcasing its excellence in healthcare. The completion of 100 kidney transplants in just 8 months of this year is a remarkable record. This milestone highlights our unwavering commitment to saving lives through organ transplantation,” he said.

The NIMS hospital surgeons have also conducted 30 successful robotic surgeries in August-September. “All of this is possible under the leadership of Chief Minister, K Chandrashekhar Rao, who is transforming Telangana into Aarogya Telangana. I congratulate the staff of NIMS hospital for the achievement” Minister said.

The kidney transplant surgeries were carried out by the urology team that also performs anywhere between 800 and 900 other urological procedures every month. “On about 9 occasions the same team performed 2 or more transplants the same day while also carrying out other major surgeries,” the doctors said.

The NIMS surgeons expressed their gratitude to Health Minister T. Harish Rao and Dr. Bheerappa, Director of NIMS for their constant support and encouragement.

The surgeries were performed by the team of Urologists headed by Professor and HOD, Dr. Rahul Devraj and comprising of Professor Dr. Ram Reddy, Dr. Vidyasagar, Dr. Ramachandraiah, Dr. Charan Kumar, Dr. Dheeraj, Dr. Sunil, Dr. Arun, Dr. Vishnu, Dr. Janaki, Dr. Harsha, Dr. Pavan, Dr. Suraj kumar, Dr. Poovarasan, Dr. Shahrukh, Dr. Ananth, Dr. Abhishek, Dr. Anupama, Dr. Rakesh, Dr. Madhusudhan.

Hanamkonda: KITS, Warangal, has organized an internal Hackathon as part of the Smart India Hackathon 2023, in partnership with the Centre for Innovation, Incubation, Research, and Entrepreneurship, Institute Innovation Council, and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (Networks) here on Friday. The event attracted 85 teams from various engineering disciplines, each comprising six students, with a focus on gender diversity, including at least two female students in each team.

Addressing the participants, Principal Prof K Ashoka Reddy stressed on importance of innovation and entrepreneurship in modern engineering education. He encouraged students to address real challenges in adopted villages, promoting the ‘Intinta Innovator’ concept. Dr K Raja Narender Reddy praised the institute’s support for providing top-notch infrastructure. Dr S Narsimha Reddy said that 85 innovative ideas had been presented during the Hackathon assessed by an expert panel.

Distinguished tech personalities evaluated the ideas, including Surya Prakash Kuchimanchi, Co-Founder & CEO at Deeploop Technologies, Himasree Desai, Founder and CEO of PixelDatum, and Sakuntala Kasaragadda and Satya Prasad Peddapelli, Co-founders of Founders Lab. Around 500 students have participated in the event.

Hanamkonda: The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Hanamkonda branch, distributed groceries to 25 inmates of the Swayamkrushi Old Age Home on Mulugu Road here on Thursday, according to a press note. They distributed 250 kgs of rice and 25 kgs of pulses.

The old age home is providing shelter and food to individuals over the age of 65 years.

The IRCS members said that they were planning to supply blankets to these 25 seniors before the onset of winter.

IRCS, Hanamkonda, Vice-Chairman P Venkatanarayana, Treasurer B Papi Reddy, Managing Committee members P Venugopal, P Srinivasa Rao, and others were present.

Mancherial: In a unique gesture, Embadi Prashanth Varma, a soon-to-be groom from Kondapur Yapa village, aimed to impart spiritual wisdom to his engagement ceremony guests. Prashanth’s special gift was customized copies of the Bhagavad Gita, weighing more than his fiancée’s weight. He also got the wedding invitation printed in the book.

Prashanth’s thoughtful gesture attracted the attention of many as he presented copies of the Bhagavad Gita to both his bride-to-be and to the attendees. Explaining the motivation behind this distinctive choice of gift, Prashanth said, “We distributed copies of the Bhagavad Gita to the guests to share the wisdom contained within the text.” He revealed that they had ordered 110 copies weighing 1.250 grams each from the renowned Gita Press in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, and procured the remaining copies a month prior.

Prashanth, a senior Research Fellow at the Central Tobacco Research Institute (CTRI) in Rajahmundry, shared that his family had been practising Yoga and following the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita for over two decades, leaving a profound impact on him. He saw this occasion as an opportunity to impart Gita’s wisdom to the guests. The youngest son of Kishan, a model farmer, Prashanth emphasized that the Bhagavad Gita teaches that transformation should start from within individuals to enhance goodness in society. He noted that this timeless source of wisdom offers solutions to contemporary questions and is still very relevant. “At the very least, it will be read by relatives if gifted,” he added.

Hyderabad: An interactive workshop on e-Waste Management and best practices was conducted at Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB), Head office, Sanathnagar on Friday.

Dr. Rateesh, Director for Centre for Materials for Electronics Technology( C-MET), Hareesh Kumar Director, Re-sustainability Reldan Refining and Balaji, GM, Earth Sense Recycle were the main speakers in the workshop on e-Waste Management.

“e-Waste contains Mercury, Lithium, Iridium, Palladium and Gallium, which are hazardous toxins and they pose severe risk to human and environmental health. They have to be collected and safely handled through recycling. Handling of e-waste carefully and scientifically is extremely important for creating economic value and to make Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) work. That will minimize environment and health impacts,” Dr Rateesh said.

Sangareddy: At least five activists of the Student Federation of India (SFI) were injured in a clash with the members of the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyardhi Parishad(ABVP) on Thursday night. The SFI leaders were fixing, pasting posters and writing on the walls on the scheduled SFI national plenary, which commenced in Sangareddy on Friday. SFI Sangareddy district general secretary Ramesh, and four other activists including a girl, have sustained serious injuries. Ramesh, who fell unconscious in the attack, was shifted to a hospital in Sangareddy.

Speaking to reporters, Ramesh alleged that over 70 ABVP activists attacked them while a 15-member SFI team was pasting posters regarding their three-day national plenary. He accused the police of remaining as as mute spectators while they were being indiscriminately attacked. The SFI plenary began on schedule and addressing the plenary, its national president VP Sanu condemned the attack. Sanu alleged that said that the ABVP and BJP were acting undemocratically in the country. However, he has said that they would not fear such attacks. The SFI national president reiterated that they would continue to fight for the cause of the students.

Keesara police nab interstate burglary gang involved in 22 cases



Hyderabad: The Keesara police nabbed a four member interstate burglary gang involved in a total of 22 cases and recovered stolen material including gold, silver, bikes and gadgets, altogether worth Rs.50 lakh on Friday.

The arrested persons include Ramakrishnan (35), from Jawaharnagar and native of Tamil Nadu, Kagh Govind (35), a provision shop owner from Chennapuram, Mahender Pawar (36), from Balajinagar and Bachu Santhosh (40), a jewelry shop worker from Jawaharnagar.

According to the police, Ramakrishnan migrated to Jawaharnagar few years ago and ventured into snack making business. During his visits to his hometown in Tamil Nadu, he committed house burglaries and returned to Hyderabad.

Govind, who owns a provisional store in the same neighbourhood, became familiar with Ramakrishna as they were also into playing online games and betting.

“The duo planned to earn easy money by burgling houses in residential colonies. Having previous experience in committing property offences, Ramakrishnan informed Govind that he would commit burglary and asked him to dispose the stolen material,” said DS Chauhan, Police Commissioner, Rachakonda.

Ramakrishnan, in collusion with Govind, started committing burglaries within the limits of Keesara, Kushaiguda and Jawaharnagar as he is well aware of these areas. In the process, they committed 22 property offences including three grave offences until now.

After committing burglaries, Ramakrishnan kept the entire stolen material with Govind and received his share as per their agreement. Some part of the stolen material was sold to Mahender Pawar and Bachu Santhosh.

Following a tip-off, the gang was caught at Bandlaguda.

Collector VP Gautham held a meeting with political parties representatives in Khammam on Friday.

Khammam: District Collector VP Gautham said that steps were being taken to prepare an error-free voters list. The Collector held a meeting with the representatives of political parties on the draft voters list here on Friday. The deadline for voter registration was Sep 19 and steps should be taken to ensure that every eligible individual enrolls name in voters list, he said.

On August 26 and 27 and September 2 and 3 special voter registration activity was carried out and booth level officials were made available with form-6,7 and 8 in each polling station. As many as 12, 084 applications under form-6; 3, 044 under form-7 and 4, 359 applications under form-8 were received, he said. Booth level officials were verifying the applications received through form 6, 7 and 8 at the field level. The leaders of the political parties should cooperate with the booth level officials to prepare a clear list, Gautham said.

He said that the list should be checked and if there were any objections, they should be brought to the attention of the authorities. Care should be taken to ensure that the names of important persons were in the list.

So far 12, 478 persons have visited the EVM demonstration centres set up in the district and 11, 630 people took part in mock voting. Campaign with mobile demonstration vehicles was conducted across the district creating awareness among the people about the right to vote and EVMs, Gautham added.

Karimnagar: Karimnagar’s renowned Silver Filigree, known for its exquisite artistry, has carved itself a niche again as over 200 delegates of the upcoming G20 summit will be presented silver badges in the shape of the Indian symbol ‘Ashoka Chakra’. The G20 summit is to be held on Saturday and Sunday in New Delhi.

The Silver Filigree of Karimnagar Handicrafts Welfare Society secured this manufacturing order through the Telangana State Handicrafts Development Corporation four months ago. These distinctive badges will adorn the coats of delegates representing 20 countries at the summit.

In a significant development, the society was also allowed to set up a stall at the summit. This platform will showcase some premium creations in Silver filigree, adding to the array of well-known Indian crafts on display. Delegates attending the summit will have the chance to visit these stalls.

Silver filigree of Karimnagar earned Geographical Indication (GI) status in 2007 and previously set up a stall in Hyderabad during the visit of Ivanka Trump, the daughter of former American President Donald Trump. Telangana: Incremental filling of PRLIS Stage I surge pool in progress

Hyderabad: It will be yet another historical moment in the irrigation history of Telangana after Kaleshwaram. The stage has been set for the magic of upward water moment. The first surge pool of the Palamuru Ranga Reddy Lift Scheme was successfully impounded to the desired level on Wednesday.

The second stage of impounding will be completed by Thursday as part of the preparatory exercise taken up for the all-important wet run of the mega pump house (145 MW X9) at Narlapur. Irrigation officials and Transco officials have been engaged in the final inspection process.

Drawls from the backwaters of the Srisailam project were routed to the surge pool through the twin tunnel network. The surge pool which can hold up to 0.5 tmc has to be impounded in two phases. The first phase was completed by filling it up to 30 metres by Wednesday morning.

The 74 metre high underground surge pool has received about 0.25 tmc after the first phase filling. The impounding process will be completed in an incremental manner while checking for leakage and faults from time to time. The second phase of impounding process will be completed within 48 hours, according to officials.

The preparatory exercise was in progress right from the day the dry run of the Stage One pump house was completed. The works are being monitored by the top brass of the irrigation department including the Engineer in Chief , C Muralidhar and project Chief Engineer M A Hameed Khan, who are all camping at the project.

The mega pumps will be lifting water to a height of 104 metres for filling the Anjanagiri reservoir and its supporting facilities which has a gross storage facility of 8.4 tmc.

The upward flow of water that would start soon in the project would unfold a new era in the southern districts of the State, said Chief Engineer MA Hameed Khan. It would mark the culmination of the enormous exercise done by the irrigation department under the guidance of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.

The surge pools of the project are a major success. They are built in a record time in a bid to meet the drinking water needs of the regions. The government has complied with the formalities for obtaining the necessary clearances.

The Chief Minister will formally inaugurate the project by switching on the motor at the first pump house on September 16.
