Hyderabad: A 55-year-old trader, Nemaram Choudary, was found dead on the bund of Muraharipally Lake in Medchal on Monday, prompting members of the Marwari community to stage a protest.
Choudary, a resident of Gundlapochampally, had reportedly left home last week carrying around Rs 10 lakh in cash. After he failed to return, his family lodged a missing complaint at the Pet Basheerabad police station on October 3.
Police recovered his body from near the lake and registered a case of suspicious death.
Medchal ACP Shankar Reddy and Inspector Anji Reddy visited the spot and began an investigation. The case was later transferred to the Pet Basheerabad police station on jurisdictional grounds.
Meanwhile, Marwari community leaders staged a protest outside the Pet Basheerabad police station, alleging that Choudary had been murdered and his body dumped near the lake. They demanded that the accused be identified and arrested at the earliest.
Police are investigating whether Choudary died by suicide or was murdered. He is survived by his wife and four children.
