Australia cricket team all-rounder Mitchell Marsh‘s emotional acceptance speech after winning the Allan Border Medal at the Cricket Australia Awards 2024 has gone viral on social media. Marsh had a brilliant run of form in the past year and he ended up beating the likes of Pat Cummins to clinch the top prize in the award ceremony. During his speech, he started by thanking his wife Greta and even mentioned Cummins and coach Andrew McDonald for backing him as part of the national team.
“Greta is an amazing human, I said in my wedding vows eight months ago. She gave me the perspective on life I needed, and our life is a lot of fun. If I get a duck, or get a hundred, she’s always the same,” Marsh said during his acceptance speech.
“To my teammates. I just love playing in this team. I have had so much fun in the last 12-18 months. We have had so much team success and I am proud to contribute to that over this period of time. I would particularly like to thank Ronny (Andrew McDonald) and Patty (Pat Cummins). You believed in me and I can’t thank you enough for believing in me,” Marsh added.
“I’m a bit fat at times and I love a beer…”

Marsh also amused everyone with his brutal honesty and his comments left his teammates in splits.
“I’m a bit fat at times and I love a beer, but you see the best in me always. Playing under you has been an absolute dream,” Marsh said in his acceptance speech.
“I hadn’t really thought about it until a few of the boys started getting stuck into me that they thought I was going to win it, then I started thinking maybe I’m a chance.”
“I had four beers at lunch, so I had to stop there. Now I’m sort of hoping that me winning this isn’t like COVID, and we’ll look back in three years time and go that was a weird time,” he further said.
