Hyderabad school faces row over Islamic homework entry in diary

Hyderabad: A controversy has erupted over the alleged inclusion of Islamic religious lessons in the homework diary of a student at a school, prompting a complaint to the local police.

Police have begun an inquiry into the matter.

Supriya Goud, a relative of the student, alleged that when she checked the student’s school diary, she found that the teacher had written “Read Kalama”, “Deeniyath”, and other related instructions as homework.

She claimed that the school management was forcing students to study Islamic literature, stating that it was being presented as mandatory.

“It is a kind of brainwashing for the students. Indirectly, the teachers are trying to impose the practice,” alleged Supriya Goud.

She added that she would take up the issue with senior officials of the Education Department.

Meanwhile, the school management denied the allegations and clarified that Deeniyath is a subject meant only for Muslim students.

According to the management, the homework entry was made inadvertently by a teacher while writing homework in the students’ diaries, resulting in the instruction being entered in the student’s diary by mistake.

A complaint has also been lodged with the local police station. Police said they are inquiring into the matter and are verifying the facts before taking any further action.
