World should not allow Netanyahu to drag region into wider war: Jordan

Jordan’s foreign minister says the international community should not allow Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whose regime is waging a genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, to drag the region into a wider war.

Ayman Safadi made the remarks in a Monday phone call with his French counterpart Catherine Colonna.

He told France’s top diplomat that the threat of further spread of the war to other parts of the region is “rising by the day,” as Israel continues to wreak “death and destruction in Gaza.”

The regime started its brutal military onslaught against the coastal territory following Operation al-Aqsa Storm by Gaza’s resistance movements. More than 23,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, have been killed and nearly 59,000 others injured so far.

Since the onset of Israel’s military aggression against Gaza, the regime has been also launching deadly attacks against Lebanon, which have evoked strong retaliatory responses from the Lebanese Hezbollah resistance movement.

Meanwhile, Iraqi and Yemeni resistance groups have been staging retaliatory strikes against Israeli targets to force the Tel Aviv regime to stop both its military aggression and a simultaneous siege that it has been imposing on Gaza.

A wider war would only “doom the region to more conflict and destruction,” Jordan’s top diplomat said, asserting, “Israel’s aggression against Gaza has exceeded all the human, legal, and moral limits.”

Stating that the far-right Israeli regime seeks to get the West directly involved in a regional war in West Asa, Safadi said there is no longer any pretext to prevent the United Nations Security Council from adopting a mandatory resolution to end the war.

The Jordanian minister said the Security Council’s failure so far to impose a ceasefire in Gaza “reflects double standards and a selective application of international law.”

The United States, Israel’s biggest ally, has torpedoed the prospect of cessation of the Israeli aggression by stonewalling ratification of all Security Council resolutions that called for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

Washington has been also providing Tel Aviv with unbridled military support, arming Israel with more than 10,000 tons of military hardware.

“Israeli war creating generation of orphans”

In another development also on Monday, Jordan’s King Abdullah denounced the Israeli regime’s “brutal war” on Gaza saying, “More children have died in Gaza than in all other conflicts around the world this past year.”

“Of those who have survived, many have lost one or both parents, an entire generation of orphans,” he added.

The Jordanian king asserted that Israel’s “indiscriminate aggression” against the Gaza Strip would never guarantee its security.

“How can indiscriminate aggression and shelling bring peace? How can they guarantee security when they are built on hatred?” Abdullah said as he was visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial in Rwanda.

Rwanda’s experience, he added, “teaches us we must fight the dehumanizing rhetoric that fuels conflict.”

“Your story can be a beacon for us all [by showing everybody] how the people of this country took action after this unspeakable crime of crimes and worked towards reconciliation to heal old wounds and prevent genocide from happening again,” Jordan’s king said.
