Medak municipal meeting rocked by councillor’s suicide threat

Medak: Fed up with the intervention of Congress councillors in the matters related to her ward, a woman councillor has threatened to commit suicide by listing out the names of leaders who were interfering in the matters of her ward.

Speaking during the municipal council meeting in Medak on Tuesday, 17th ward councillor Bujarampet Aruna alleged that leaders from other wards were intervening in the matters of her ward even though she objected to it strongly.

She further accused the officials of denying development works and funds to her ward. She was elected on a BSP ticket in the last municipal elections, but later switched loyalty to Congress.

Though she was uneducated, Aruna said that she was well aware of what was going on in Medak municipality. When she threatened to commit suicide by listing the names of persons who were creating hurdles for her, Aruna’s statement left the entire council in a shock.

Her statement reflected how distressed she was under the rule of Congress. Since Congress did not get the desired majority in the municipality, Congress leaders invited her into the party fold to win the municipal chairperson post, but they never respected her.
