The Syrian Army’s air defense units have repelled an Israeli rocket attack near the capital Damascus, amid intensified strikes by the Tel Aviv regime against the Arab country since the start of the occupying entity’s brutal war on the besieged Gaza Strip.
The official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) quoted an unnamed military source as saying in a statement that the Israeli aggression occurred in the early hours of Saturday.
“At approximately 1:35 am (1035 GMT) today, the Israeli enemy carried out an air assault from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting some points near the city of Damascus,” the statement said, adding that the attack left no casualties.
The military source said the Syrian Army’s air defense units responded to the Israeli missiles and shot down “most of them,” underlining that the aggression led to “only material losses.”

Last week, the Israel regime carried out airstrikes on Syria’s Damascus International Airport, causing the facility to go out of service.
The Syrian Army’s air defense also intercepted and shot down an Israeli missile near the country’s capital, with reports saying the assault caused “material losses.”
Israel has intensified its air aggression against Syria since the regime’s bloody onslaught against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip on October 7 after the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas launched Operation al-Aqsa Storm in the occupied territories.
The surprise operation was carried out in retaliation for the Tel Aviv regime’s decades-long campaign of bloodletting and devastation against Palestinians.
Tel Aviv also blocked water, food, and electricity to Gaza, plunging the coastal strip into a humanitarian crisis.
More than 15,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, have been killed in the Israeli strikes.
Three killed in Israeli shelling in Lebanon
Meanwhile, Lebanon’s state media reported on Friday that Israeli shelling claimed the lives of three civilians in the south of the Arab country.
The reports said the Israeli aggression targeted the Lebanese border town of Houla, killing a woman and her 35-year-old son. One person was also killed in the border town of al-Jebbayn.
Earlier in the day, the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah resumed its anti-Israel operations in support of the resistance in Gaza, which saw a truce that was extended several times in recent days.
Since the beginning of the Israeli war on Gaza, Hezbollah has targeted many Israeli positions near the Lebanese border in retaliatory strikes.
The popular resistance movement has warned it could expand its attacks if the Israeli regime intensifies its brutal campaign against people in the Gaza Strip.
