Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Wednesday met and held talks with the UN’s Emergency Relief Chief Martin Griffith to discuss Gaza.
During the meeting, the top Iranian diplomat stressed the need to take urgent and effective measures to stop the Israeli regime’s crimes against the Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip.
Referring to his recent meetings with Hamas leaders, Amir-Abdollahian said that Hamas would stop its counterattacks if the Zionists end the genocide in Gaza. He added that the Palestinian Resistance group is ready to take action regarding releasing the civilian prisoners.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Amir-Abdollahian said that there is no chance for the Zionist regime to win the war and the continuation of the war only increases the costs for the American government as the biggest supporter of the Zionist regime.
The amount of humanitarian aid sent to Gaza is very small and it is necessary for the United Nations to take immediate and serious action in this regard, he added.
To achieve peace and security in the region, the United Nations can count on the assistance of the Islamic Republic of Iran, he continued.
Griffith, for his part, called for finding a solution to the Gaza war and said that the catastrophic situation in Gaza’s Al-Shifa Hospital is a tragedy.
He appreciated the efforts of the Islamic Republic of Iran to prevent the spread of the war in the region and emphasized the need to strengthen the efforts to stop the war and end the current alarming situation.
Amir-Abdollahian is visiting the Swiss city of Geneva in continuation of Iranian diplomatic efforts amid the Zionist regime of the Israeli regime’s aggression on the Gaza Strip in Palestine.
Over the past few weeks since the launch of the Zionist Israeli regime’s aggression on the Gaza Strip, Amir-Abdollahian also made trips to the region. In the first round of his tour, he went to Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, and Qatar, and in the meetings with the officials of those Muslim countries, he discussed the situation in Gaza and Palestine and also held talks with the leaders of the Lebanese and Palestinian Resistance in Beirut and Doha.
After that, the Iranian foreign minister went to Jeddah to participate in the extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and in addition to participating in the meeting and presenting suggestions, he met and talked with some counterparts and officials present at the Jeddah meeting.
He also went to New York to participate in the UN General Assembly meeting on the Gaza situation. While in New York, he participated in a UNGA meeting and also met with the UN Secretary-General and the foreign ministers of Indonesia and Jordan and discussed the situation in Gaza with them.
In the second round of his consultations in the region, Amir-Abdollahian visited Qatar and Turkey and met with the officials of those countries.
The top diplomat of Iran further accompanied President Ebrahim Raeisi on his visit to the Saudi Arabia capital to attend the OIC-Arab Summit to discuss the situation in Gaza.
