The Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) has announced that it will grant bursaries to Palestinian students in memory of the two slain children of Iyad Ibrahim Shaqura, a TUMS alumnus whose house was bombarded by the Israeli regime earlier this week in the Palestinian territory of the Gaza Strip.
In a statement issued in Arabic on Tuesday, the TUMS offered its condolences to Dr. Shaqura and said that two grants will be offered to distinguished Palestinian students to commemorate Shaqura’s two children who were killed in Israeli bombardment in Khan Yunis in southern Gaza a day earlier.
Reports said Shaqura had fainted after seeing the bodies of his two children, his mother and his two brothers arriving at the emergency room of the Nasser Hospital where he was treating patients injured in Israeli attacks on Gaza.
Shaqura, a pharmacy graduate from the TUMS, has turned into an emergency physician in his hometown of Khan Yunis, where hospitals are over full capacity with the bodies of the dead and the wounded people as a result of the relentless Israeli bombardment.
His two sons, Abdelrahman, seven, and Omar, five, are among more than 4,600 children killed in the Israeli attacks on Gaza since early October.
“What did they do to have tons of bombs and explosives dropped on their heads in their home?” said Shaqura before burying his children in the Martyr’s Cemetery of Khan Yunis on Tuesday.
“Now, I will bury my children and return to work,” he said.
More than a month of Israeli attacks on Gaza has claimed the lives of over 11,500 people, according to figures provided by health authorities in the territory on Tuesday.
