'US responsible for war crimes against Palestinians'

Iran’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations has criticized the US for vetoing a UN Security Council resolution that would have called for humanitarian pauses in the Gaza war, saying that Washington bears the responsibility for the continued war crimes against Palestinians.

“Having once again vetoed a UN Security Council resolution calling for humanitarian assistance, the US bears the primary responsibility for the perpetuation of war crimes, transgressions, and genocide committed by the apartheid regime against Palestinians”, the Iranian mission said Wednesday on its official page on X, formerly Twitter, attaching to its post an image of US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The resolution, drafted by Brazil, called for pauses in the Gaza war to allow humanitarian aid access to the Gaza Strip, which has been the target of heavy Israeli bombardment since October 7 when resistance movement Hamas launched its unprecedented operation Al-Aqsa Storm in response to the Zionist regime’s escalating crimes in the Palestinian territories. The regime has also imposed a total blockade on the Gaza Strip, cutting off food, water, electricity, and medicines.

Russia reacted to the US move to veto the resolution as well.

“We have just been witnesses once again of hypocrisy and the double standards of our American colleagues,” said Russia’s UN Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia, according to Reuters.

On Monday, a Russian-drafted resolution, which called for a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, failed to pass at the UN Security Council.
