Mancherial: A 30-year-old devotee from Maharashtra drowned in the Godavari while taking a dip in the river at Gudirevu village in Dandepalli mandal on Thursday.
Police said Pendur Diwakar, a resident of Chandrapur district, drowned at a deep spot in the river. Police launched a search operation and retrieved his body.
Diwakar was participating in the annual Dandari-Gussadi festival at the Padmalpuri Kako temple, located on the banks of the river, when the incident occurred. Further details are awaited.
Hundreds of tribals from the erstwhile Adilabad district as well as neighbouring Maharashtra congregate at the shrine and worship the deity by performing traditional dance forms.
